lol really?? Everyone is saying that Luatua to ND is just a matter of time.

And how long have they been saying that?

That was also when people were saying Juju (Tylers friend) to ND was likely. Also when ND had a shot at Mama (Tylers friend). His friends are now near locks to USC, which is in California.

All I'm saying is that if it has been such a "lock" for all this time, why does it continue to get delayed?

I'm pretty sure that the other day when he said that he would announce at the UA game that was the first time he has said when he was going to commit. There hasn't been a delay because there was never a date.

It's been delayed because the al star game he's playing in wants him to make the announcement there. They always try and get quite a few guys to commit to announcing at the game. Part of the promotion. I wouldn't be surprised if the staff already knows he's coming.

That's what people are thinking, but I don't get the impression he is a silent.

The fact is he is not committed yet, and there is a lot happening in Los Angeles right now involving good friends of his.

I just don't know why anyone would be suprised.

I think he ends up Irish, but I don't think its a sure thing yet.

Yep, neither would I. Kelly referred to our "20" commits the other day. By my count we have 19. I know some people think he's counting McKenzie, but I don't think he'd do that yet. Either he just miscounted or Luatua is a silent.

Haha. I did not know that. Probably been staring at the big board for so long it is just in-grained at this point.

Why is that? McKenzie considers himself committed, seems logical that the coach would call it that too. Sure, he may not end up qualifying, but neither did Tee. BK considered him a commit the entire time.

Seems like openly saying that we have more would be implying that we have a silent. That seems out of character for BK, imo. I think he was referring to McKenzie. If he is talking "verbals", then McKenzie is one, regardless if he ends up signing or not.

So its more probable that he counted someone who hasn't offered his commitment rather than someone who has publicly committed like McKenzie?

At the end of the day, maybe he ends up Irish. Maybe not. Lot of things going on in California.

I'd like to see him Irish just like everyone else. Ill say:

Luatua to USC
Schultz to Stanford

But I thought part of the whole argument with Loy about whether to mark him as a commit or not was because the coaches were not accepting his commitment so he isn't really a verbal?

I think IM considers himself a verbal but ND does not. Although, I am pretty confused on this one.

Loy doesn't know what the coaching staff thinks. Ever since McKenzie committed, the staff has said that we have 20 commits. They can't publicly comment on a players status, but IM continues to say he is committed.

I remember Loy saying that he wouldn't call him a commit because he hadn't talked to the coaches after his verbal yet. Anybody know if IM publicly said that he talked to the staff?

Maybe we should move this convo to the McKenzie thread?

lol what?

SC isn't even recruiting Luatua and he is on record saying he is leaving California. The staff has pretty much knew he was coming in July

That might seem logical at first glance, but if you read what Loy and Wiltfong are saying I don't think that logic holds. The staff does not accept the commitments of players who don't meet clearinghouse standards. You saw it with AQM last cycle and even with Jamel James in a modified way (BGI stated that they had not "confirmed that the staff had accepted the commitment" until they determined that there was a "plan" in place for him to get his academics where they needed to be, a plan Jamel did not fulfill his end of.)

Also, Wiltfong and Loy could not be more certain that Luatua will be in the class. They are trying not to steal his thunder but they've done everything but say that he is Irish.

Not saying I know for sure either way, but reading between the lines, it's my educated guess that Luatua is a silent and Kelly inadvertently included him in the class the other day. I freely admit that it's no more than that.

So its more probable that he counted someone who hasn't offered his commitment rather than someone who has publicly committed like McKenzie?

I'm saying Luatua is a silent commit who wants to announce on his birthday.

Not saying I'm certain though; just wouldn't be surprised. I will be surprised if he ends up anywhere but ND.

Wait there are some people who think he's not coming because he hasn't announced for ND yet? He is waiting to make his commitment on his Birthday or at the Under Armor game. There are such things as silent commitments and staff know there coming they just wait to announce. IMO any of these guys could be silent commits

Luatua will be going to ND. There has been more then one rumor he has been a silent since July 4th weekend

haha... when I first read this, I thought you were saying they could be silents to ND... It took me a sec.

I'm not even saying that Luatua isn't a silent. I'm just saying that I don't think the staff would include him in a number they openly gave the public in some cryptic message to the fans. I don't believe that he was referring to him as the "20th commit".

Kelly made an offhand comment in an interview last week in which he said that we have 20 spots filled in a class of 24 or something like that. I forget who the interview was with.

But we only have 19 commits.

It's possible he just misspoke though.

As Emcee said above. Some people think that he was talking about a silent as the 20th, others (myself included) is that they were including McKenzie. He publicly gave his verbal and all.

Im not saying that he's not going to end up at ND. However, your "silent commit" theory is a joke.

Luatua just said last week he needs to give UCLA another look did he not? Is UCLA not in California?

Your right players don't tell coaches there coming ever and just wait to announce at all star games or days. Luatua wasn't even being pursued by UCLA. He watched the USC UCLA game with all Cali kids. He hasn't mentioned UCLA or even visiting UCLA besides a tweet.

I didn't say players don't do (Thanks JJ) that. The fact that Luatua is a silent based on rumors is a joke. But if that were the case, I'm sure a player has never silently committed and then silently decommitted only to wind up somewhere else. That never happens publicly, so surely not in private. July 4 also had ND in a much better standing with Juju. Also, the USC coaching staff that wasn't recruiting Luatua is gone. So we'll see where it goes from here.

Hope he's Irish in the end. Nervous about USC making a run once things become official with Juju and Mama.

Not to jump too far into this back and forth but... how else would people speculate about a silent commit if not for basing it on rumors?

Hmmm????
