If we're undefeated we're in. There won't be four other undefeateds.

I guess it's possible you have undefeated Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson, with a 12-1 Bama that lost close to Georgia. But that's the only scenario where there's even a debate, and we'll have lots of common opponents with Clemson to consider. We could get in over them. So, undefeated almost certainly means playoffs.

But if we lose one we're going to need a lot of help. We don't have the high-end wins, and it won't be a high-end loss like Georgia last year or Clemson in 2015.

Now let’s switch the names. Bama 12-1. Uga 13-0. Do we get in? Doesn’t help imo

Bama's in and should be even with 2 loses. It hurts their own conference If your scenario works out.
Bama plays soft schedules to make Saban look like Satan. It Is what.....

Gotta figure Clemson has more to be worried about in terms of going undefeated and being left out, no?

13-0 Bama, 13-0 osu, 13-0 clem, 12-1 uga with only loss to Bama in sec champ, 12-0 ND. Do we get in?

Bama would still have same number of FBS wins as ND
Clemson would still have same number of FBS wins as ND
Georgia would have fewer FBS wins than ND
OSU would have one more FBS win than ND

Not going to go into all the what if's but can say with confidence, If 12-0 ND & 13-0 UCF aren't in the playoffs, there will be an 8 team playoff real quick... like there should be.

I agree it’s way too early to speculate b/c it almost always works itself out. I do think they keep UCF out no matter what. Fair or not, I haven’t heard any analyst who believes an undefeated UCF will get in.

As long as WVU doesn't win the Big 12 undefeated... which would be a truly crazy thing to happen... ND is in at 12-0. They are not going to put a one loss team in over them.

Every year we discuss 'would ND be left out at 12 and 0".

Obviously they havent finished undefeated in the CFB playoff era, but when the dust settles at the end of the season, the answer is always "yes" if they did.

I literally have 0 concerns about undefeated ND being left out. I think a 11-1 ND would be 50/50.

We have now entered the point in the season where we all worry about who will get screwed if all the good teams win all the rest of their games, forgetting that that pretty much never happens because this is college football.
Just win. The rest will take care of itself.

yup, but it's fun to think about who will be there, how and when folks lose/win, etc..

happens ever year when we are doing well, and will always happen.

it's a good thing, because for us to even begin to ponder this stuff, it means we're doing well.

True. We could be 4-2 or 3-3 and lighting up the BK Revisited thread. This is more fun.

I'm rooting for WVU to keep winning and ND. ND and WVU at #2/3. WVU is good but all things considered I'd rather play them than OSU, BAMA, or UGA.

Exactly... I'd love to see the BK Revisited thread never pop up again lol. I'll take what ifs all day every day if it means we're in the hunt. So much to be happy about right now.

I've been anti-BK since he lost to Northwestern in 2014. Not necessarily to fire him but I'd given up on the idea that he could take us to the next level. I'll gladly eat crow if events shake out differently moving forward. In fact I've never wanted to be wrong more in my life.

I don’t think there is any chance an ND team wins out and is left out. We’ve now beat 3 top 25 teams. At this point, can anybody else say that? Honestly don’t know

Which three teams, that are plausible, would you like to see make the playoffs? Clemson seems the most likely to get in with their remaining schedule. I would love for Bama and OSU to get eliminated. I feel like a foursome of ND, Clemson, UGA, and WV would be very favorable for us.

Just anyone but Bama. We cannot beat Bama. I think we have a shot against anyone else.

Dream scenario would be Notre Dame, Colorado, West Virginia, and UCF lol.

This would happen by the Big 10 and SEC knocking themselves out. Although, I think a one loss Big 10/SEC champ would get in before UCF. So if that were to happen, lets pray that Florida upsets UGA in the regular season and Bama in the SECC. Then we would have:

Notre Dame
West Virginia
Florida
Colorado

Bama will be in and I know you believe that. But the best scenario is for ND to be the #2/#3 seed so Saban would only have 1 week to prep for ND versus 3 weeks should the boyz win the CFP Semi.

Agree. I really don’t want to give Saban or Meyer 3 weeks to prepare for us.

I don't think there's ever been a question that 12-0 ND gets into the playoff. For a 12-0 ND to be left out there would have to be 4 or more 13-0 Conference Champions from P5, and that's an incredibly unlikely scenario. I HAVE seen people swear on their mama's grave that an 11-1 ND team doesn't get left out though, which is certainly not true. That one has already been refuted if you look at the 2015 season. We got bypassed by Oklahoma and moved down to #5 the week before we faced Stanford...and while the Stanford game certainly would have given us lots of brownie points, I think Oklahoma was facing a comparably ranked (But not as good) Big 12 team the same week. So, in the end it is unlikely we would have regained our ground even if we would have beaten Stanford, and should that same scenario play out today the odds are even less likely we move back to #4 because the Big 12 now plays a championship game. Bottom line: people claiming we're a guaranteed lock at 11-1 are about as bright as the guys that keep saying "We want 'Bama!"

Our OL likely can't hold up to their DL and I agree that Bama will be the heavy favorite against every other team in the country but we are capable of pulling an upset.

But this is probably the best Bama Offense I've seen. Their defense has taken a step back but they're still complete. For any team to beat Bama, you need to play your best game of the year and hope that Bama makes at least one uncharacteristic mistake.

How is Bama's OL? I wonder if we could generate enough pressure against them to keep it competitive?

Yeah, my issue with them is that Tua seems like an unstoppable force of nature. I just have no clue how you even try to defend that team... they can beat you in so many different ways.

Get pressure with the front four and hope he makes unforced errors on three step drops. That's about all you can do.

If we're dreaming up scenarios, I would love for ND to get the #2 or #3 and Alabama to draw Oklahoma for their matchup. The Sooners are a flawed team but Kyler Murray can make up for a lot of deficiencies when he's on.

Alabama would walk over Oklahoma. Oklahoma plays no defense and their offense is literally only Murray. I'd like to see:
1. Alabama
2. ND/WVU
3. WVU/ND
4. OSU

I say that because I think OSU can realistically beat Alabama and while I don't want OSU I'd rather face them than Alabama. They have weaknesses. From what I can see, Alabama has none.
