Yeah, I just don't see it. I just rewatched last year's game against USC and we did not play very well and still had a good shot at winning on the road. I think SC may be a bit overrated, which is fine. I would be happy for them to be unbeaten and highly ranked when they come in to South Bend and get taken behind the woodshed.

On another note, I am not in the habit of bashing current Irish players, but after rewatching multiple games we have a particular LB that was very bad last year. I know the coaches watch film, so they must see the same thing, and they want to win so there must not be a better option...but man, one of our LB's need seriously coached up if they are going to be a starter again. He was just abused time after time after time.

USC just doesn't scare me. If they ever get a competent DC, then I may be worried. They are soft. This game will be like the "33 trucking" game when they just physically dominated SC. Ohio St. is a different story, they have NFL talent everywhere, on both sides of the ball. That's the game that has me concerned.

IMO, this is going to be the defining game of the season. I think Hartman and receiving weapons can go head to head, blow to blow, but I think our defense not as deep as past years could get winded by the 4th quarter and we may want to run our multiple backs (where we have the depth) to wear down their D and keep Caleb Williams off the field. They have a lot of WR weapons. What do you all think?

I think if our DL does their job this time and keeps him contained, doesn't let him escape, and the PAC-12 refs actually throw a holding penalty or two this time we should be fine. Our offense is more explosive this time, secondary is strong, it all hinges on the DL.

Our DL had trouble tackling the TSU QB, they aren't finishing on williams.

It will be up to Sam to keep pace and hope the defense can make a stop or two.

This is why Sneed need to get experience and learn. He is gonna be important in this game. He is probably the only linebacker that has the speed to stay with Williams.

Agree, but moreso the complaining about going #1. Williams strikes me as a huge whiner, I wonder what his OL really think of him. Dad too apparently.

Imagine your kid going #1 in the NFL draft and complaining about it.
Yeah this is a super poor look

You mean like the Mannings and the Elways did?

I don't like this family.

I mean, some franchises really are the pits. I was pretty sad when Mayer wound up with the Raiders, there's a lot of Cinci fans here that would have loved to have a big time TE and hometown hero come to the Bengals. That said, if you're the real deal like Burrow you can transform a struggling franchise into a contender almost overnight. For 5 years before Burrow came to town the Bengals were winning 2-6 games a year, and they hadn't won a playoff game since 1990.

I dont know the history there, but if similar, yes.
Wow. You are young. My point though is that there is plenty to not like about Williams, but him trying to gain some leverage so he doesn’t go to a crap franchise isn’t one of those. The Mannings and Elways did this very thing years ago and there was a little blowback but most people have understanding.

Honestly if I was getting paid what he’s likely getting paid at USC, maybe you would be smarter to do that for another year than to go play for some notorious QB-killing franchise like the Browns always used to be.

But yes the assumption that he’s going to be the #1 pick is pretty obnoxious.
