Weren't people trumpeting the Navy and Army wins last year?
They were until ND demolished both of them & exposed the fact that they hadn’t shown they could be equally impressive vs the stronger P4 teams. Jamie U seems to believe Navy is better on offense this year….faster but that their D has taken a step back.

Don’t forget, Army’s OL won the Joe Moore Award despite being a non factor vs ND

Making Navy a week 0 matchup every year makes too much sense to me. Home games every other year and rotate away games between:
New York/East Rutherford (2004, 2010, 2024++)
Dublin (1996, 2023)
Jacksonville (2016)
San Diego (2018)
Baltimore/DC (2022, 2014, 2008, 2006)

Gives ND an "easy" W to begin every year (which the last two years have proven would be nice) with plenty of time to prepare for unique offense AND gives ND an optional bye week in week 1 to give team a recovery period.

Additionally, gives ND fans games in Ireland, FL, NY/east coast, and CA (I realize Navy probably controls a lot of this, but I would assume ND could apply pressure).

I post this w/ all due respect to Navy & the ND fans who cherish this rivalry.…I hate this game. Navy never gets any national respect b/c they don’t have the athletes to compete for titles or a P4 conf championship. So they’re lumped in w/ all the other G6 tomato cans that are looked down upon by the power conferences. But I know this rivalry isn’t going anywhere so no need to give me the history lesson. We’ve all heard it ad nauseam and there’s always going to be two factions of ND fanbase. One that wishes it would end & one that wants it to carry on forever.

I do wish ND & Navy could come together & schedule this as the opener each year. But I know that’s out of their hands from a conference scheduling perspective. Anyways, it’s gotta be played so I need to get over it & just hope for a comfortable win w/ minimal injuries. Just my two cents.

I hated the game when chop blocking was legal.
Now I just enjoy beating down a rival then thanking them for their service.

Same. I consider the WWII debt repaid and then some. It's been 80 years.

Would happily replace it with another G5 opponent.

If we replace Navy with another G5 opponent, what are the benefits? It's still a game that wouldn't be viewed as a significant data point and we really haven't seen the issues post-Navy or Army in the past 5 years that we did back when the cut blocks were allowed. I'm just not sure why this is a big deal to retain Navy

I think it's because it gets brought up every time some online chud discusses our SoS. A different G5 wouldn't change the perception but it would change the talking point.

It's boring. There is zero to gain from playing them. Win, big deal. Lose, it's considered an upset. Having to prepare for this stupid offense that nobody outside of the three service academies uses.

Like @IRISHDODGER said, there are two camps of ND fans when it comes to the Navy "rivalry". I'm in the one that's over it and doesn't really care for it anymore.

Okay but which G5 team would consistently be fun? If we wanted to replace them with a power game I get the argument but playing Temple, or Miami OH, or Western Michigan isn’t really an upgrade.

A different G5/6 team benefits the Notre Dame’s team the entire season. They no longer have to plan around the triple option. They no longer have to worry about the following week regardless of how easily they’ve navigated it recently. I believe in the past, ND has even invited walk-ons & may have even recruited a kid or two who could mimic the triple option hybrid in practice. Have you noticed all the P5 conferences tend to shy away from academies as OOC opponents but dont hesitate to make fun of ND playing them?! They don’t want any part of that shit & they’re smart.

Forget “fun”. Think of the effort & time they could put into each opponent vs carving out time throughout the offseason & the bye weeks to prepare for an offense they only see once per year.

As much as I love using this game to broaden the brand, go to unique locations, etc. I would absolutely love just one game at Annapolis. Same with Michie @ West Point.

Watching some tape of Navy. DBs cannot tackle worth shit. Love and Price will have a field day vs these clowns. They just bounce off the NT St RB. Arm tackles would be an improvement over this. And those 260 lb lineman and the 210ish LBs are going to get buried by or OL.
I think it was 2013, when the score in the Navy game was close, but we just handed it to Tarean Folston and he dragged the Midshipmen for 7 yards per play.

I'd like to address the team directly here for a second: guys all I'm asking, and I say with the utmost respect for all parties, is that you stomp a big greasy mudhole in the United States Navy today.
