Did he not? Yikes, they had some rookies like Mentock & Engel get to ask questions so you know that had to hurt the old ego. Engel is probably a nice kid but I cannot listen to his 24 year old version of Ben Stein. Wish they’d put Goolsby or Goolsby’s pod partner w/ Somogyi.

Engel and Lou is like an awkward family dinner every time they do a podcast.

He’s excited to see TD Jesus.
TL is traveling with the team. He can’t play because he doesn’t have enough time to get his cardio back up for the game.
He says Kyle Hamilton is the best safety in America.
He also echoed similar sentiments that BK did about this not being an end all be all game. You have to win games to make it to the ACC championship. It’s not just one game.

Good comparison. I literally have to hit the FWD 30 sec button on Engel a few times b/c he never lands the plane. Just monologuing which Lou can get away with b/c he can bring in the historical perspective.

Wouldn’t expect anything else. He says all the right things about his opponents regardless of who they may be. He seems to always take a page out of the Holtz “woe is me!!!” Playbook from his ND days. He has to be careful, however; b/c as Holtz found out that can come back to bite u like it did for ND in 1993.

I just want to make sure, Clemson did almost lose to BC last weekend, right?

Pretty bold statements lol

The game wasn't as close as the score let on. Clemson gifted BC points early in the form of a fumble at the 1 yard line that was returned 99 yards, along with some easy scores to start the game. 2nd half Clemson got their heads out of their asses and scored 24 unanswered points before they ran out the clock to end it. BC couldn't do anything once Clemson woke up. Expect that the Tigers won't be napping this week, they'll be ready to go in prime time with Gameday in town.

Yeah, but...it's BC.

I know some people on here love PJ, but their offense hasn't exactly lit the world on fire this year. BC is averaging 27.6 ppg (59th out of 103), 363 yards per game (77th) and 5.1 yards per play (73rd). The same offense couldn't even muster 300 yards against Texas State, one of the worst defenses and teams in CFB.

They could come out wide-awake, but not having Lawrence and Skalski, among others, is going to be tough. ND isn't BC. They're A LOT more talented.

Motivational and energy levels are a big part of production on Saturdays, in addition to game plan. Certainly talent levels are as important as those, but motivation and game plan are why football factories like Michigan still lose to teams like Appalachian State. Motivational and game plan are partly why BC was so successful early on last weekend. I'm just saying we can't expect Clemson to sleepwalk into this game like they did. We will likely score as much or less than BC for that reason. On the flip side, we have to hope our defense gives up far fewer points than BC did.

Yes, yet the AP kept them at #1 which is good for ND as far as esthetics. To go further, it would’ve been better for Clemson to roll BC but now they’ve likely laid their seasonal one egg. They likely looked at that close win as a loss and are now more focused on ND.

Keep in mind their true freshman back up QB didn’t learn he would be starting vs BC until Thursday of last week. Now he’s got an entire week to prepare. It’s only one data point but if he can look poised and not confused by an opposing defense w/ a few days to prepare, I wouldn’t assume that ND being a better D automatically equals that they will confuse & stress this kid when he’s had twice as long to prepare. Hope Lea can keep him off balanced but it won’t be easy.

And if we are making sure, ND did almost lose to UL a few weekends ago, so we can all agree that good teams can fall into a trap game. The thing about Clemson is they do it every year, yet they win when it counts against impressive opponents including two CFP NCs. In other words, they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt. ND has not.

Playing devil's advocate.....Without a lot of time to think about the sudden change of QB's, maybe he was laser focused on just digesting everything the coaches were throwing at him. Now that he has a week before the game, maybe he has time to start thinking about the magnitude of this game (national broadcast, night game, playing at the Mecca, etc.) it could add some pressure.

Talking to the Clemson fans in the office this AM and one of their big concerns is that their depth at defensive line is dwindling. They have a few guys that are nicked up and questionable to play Saturday + not having Xavier Thomas in the first half. Clemson fans are worried they wont have the normal defensive rotation and that ND's O-Line, that is made of MEN, will wear them down. One can only hope...

That’s a great point. He probably didn’t have much time to let the fact that he was the starter really sink in. When a kid comes in last minute (especially during a game) they don’t have time to stress and do well. It’s the second game that can reveal the full psychological impact of being “the man”

My concern is ND’s LB...specifically Shayne Simon. I think his future is bright but he needs to be more aggressive vs “read & react”. Etienne will bludgeon Simon if Simon doesn’t attack.

Agree completely. That is my biggest fear defensively.

A lot of his throws were quick reads, and he was almost always high on out breaking routes. Loved hitting the slants and Etienne in the flat or on wheels. Interesting to see how the playbook is opened (or not) this week, and if the out breaking throws have been fixed.

he had several throws when i was watching that sailed on him that the wr's could just get a hand on especially on the slants which didn't lead to any int's when i was watching but damn close....lets hope the luck of the irish turns those into INT'S

They do those wr bubble screens exceptionally well and get those athletic wr's in space on the perimeter

The trouble is more so him as a receiving threat out of the backfield 7 rec for 140 yards

Someone resurface the chart, but we need to go man coverage the whole game. Chart showed Trevor Lawrence has struggled big time this year in man coverage. I suspect that has more to do with Clemson's receivers/ tight ends not being as good as past years. If that is the case, we need to also prioritize keeping a man on Ettiene since he seems to be there best receiving threat.

Yes. At this point with no TLaw, Ettiene is the only scary thing. Id stack the box and and man cover most of the game. Make their QB beat us in the air.

SP+ is predicting Clemson 28 - 27 Notre Dame

Well that sounds fun...

That's actually a great sign. It indicates that the SP+ model thinks we're just as good as Clemson. And unless Bill Connelly went in and made some specific tweaks to reflect the absence of several of Clemson's star players (very doubtful), it's overstating Clemson's chances because the data it's utilizing includes games where Lawrence, Skalski, et al played.

I was just referring to the idea of being hopeful for 3 1/2 hours just to see us lose to a powerhouse by 1 point. I’m definitely no expert but it’s hard to believe that they are only favored by one and that doesn’t even reflect the fact that the future #1 draft pick won’t be playing. So an updated model would presumably have us as favorites then? Strange if true. Not doubting you Whiskey, it’s just difficult to process after watching our offense for 7 games this year.

c'mon if you told me she was just some fan and not an accredited Clemson beat writer i'd have believed you. It was slightly embarrassing. I've listened to a bunch of SB nation fans with type writers do podcasts and she was probably below this level.

Bingo! I'm feeling much more optimistic after seeing how all the models view these teams as largely equal on paper, and knowing that they aren't taking those injuries into account

I'm feeling alright. I think we'll run the ball pretty well (all things considered). I think the defense is very good. Therefore, we should move the ball at least okay and should get some stops. If we score >21, we are in business because I dont think Clemson is going to be scoring a ton either.

Now watch ND lose 45 to 24 with two late garbage touchdowns lol
