Listened to II podcast yesterday. Evidently, BK got pissed at Lou Somogyi for asking a question around this game being a “measuring stick” game. WTH is wrong w/ asking that & why didn’t BK embrace it vs acting like it’s just another game b/c if they turn around and lose to BC it doesn’t matter?
It does matter. Even if ND turns around & loses to BC in a hangover game, ND needs to win a big game on the national stage. Even w/ the backup QB leading the opponent b/c the national pundits are still expecting ND to fold.
This year is a great example of why this week’s game is a must-win. While crazy stuff can still happen amid COVID, it’s widely accepted that this year is Bama, Clemson, tOSU and then a huge drop-off in talent. That means if chalk holds and those 3 make the CFP, the 4th team would have to beat TWO elite teams to claim the CFP.
ND claims it wants to win NC. If they believe they can go from beating average to below-average teams to magically knocking off two elites, they’re delusional. ND must prove they can knock off an elite at least once....to even sniff the CFP.
If ND shits the bed yet again on the national stage , I agree w/ Pete Sampson when he asked “What are we doing here?”. For context, Sampson, Prister & O’Malley all three expect ND to compete similarly to how they did vs UGA last year. Pete’s point was there’s no excuse for ND not at least “showing up” and if they implode, it’s fair to ask the question.
