"Name another program that would be as good with their second quarterback. I may or may not give you Missouri. Otherwise, go."

You asked for 1. OSU
OK was just as good too.
Missouri was as good.

There is a list of 3, you asked for one.

Nice try. Go look, at them. Sorry there is a list of 3, and you did ask for 1.

You've been beaten down by several other people. Again, nice try.

I've been as critical as Kelly as anyone on here, and maybe more so. There are plenty of guys here that will attest to that.

I'm DAMN proud of our effort tonight. Did it end the way we wanted, no. Would EG have made it better, perhaps...but NEWSFLASH...EG didn't play tonight. With our MASH unit of injuries, suspensions, etc., we just played the #8 team to a touchdown on the road.

There are no moral victories in football...but I'm still proud of this team and their effort tonight.

Well put!

Jayhawk,

Duke is playing for the ACC Championship. Missouri for the SEC, OK State is ranked 7, OSU will be ranked #1 or #2, ok Nebraska is out of it toally.

Again, I gave you a team that will be playing for the Nat. Championship--you are 100% wrong right there. OK and OK State are both really good and in the top 16.

You are wrong flat out, you asked for one. I gave you more. And proved you were wrong with OSU. Sorry, you are wrong.

Jayhawk, I proved you wrong. You asked for 1. I gave you more than one. But, OSU is 1. There it is. Try again, but by your post you asked for 1.

Ohio State.

I just totally disagree. Your examples are players that came in for very limited time and were just trying not to mess things up. All totally different examples.

Guiton played important minutes against Cal, San Diego State, and Florida A&M.

Want to try again?

Missed some big opportunities. Disappointed in some things, proud of other things.

Not our year to win this one. We'll get it back next.

Notre Dame is still my team. That means every last player.

Great effort and some bad missed opportunities...both on offense and defense. Will be nice to see some of the injuries healed and players back on the field for the bowl game. Hope we can send the seniors off with a win.

First of all, you're asking a 3rd stringer to play, not a 2nd stringer. And a true freshman at that.

And think about it, you're pissed about a 7 pt loss to the ninth ranked team in the nation. How pissed would you be if we lost 6+ games because we were playing for the future? The insane ND fanbase makes it impossible for any ND coach to play for the future while sacrificing any current possible wins.

And finally, how many of your teams you listed are winning ALL SEASON LONG with their 3rd stringers, true freshmen at that (answer: none). We're winning with our back-up, not our starter. Mauk lost, and it cost them a shot at the natty. The rest of your guys (including Mauk) are all 2nd stringers, not 3rd stringers like Zaire). And I can make a list A LOT longer of teams who have failed without their top QB.

say we blow out pitt and lose to Stanford by 7 like we did, where do you think we'd sit in the bcs rankings?

i think 16-18 and with a few things falling into place we could of cracked the top 15.

BK: I thought (junior safety) Matthias (Farley) was a little shaky in the first series and then I thought he played very well after that. (Senior safety) Austin (Collinsworth) obviously had a very big interception for us. I thought they played well. They were on bodies, we had to utilize them a lot and some of our schemes, we had to fit them in some of the run game. I thought they played solid today.

I suppose, if poll-voters decided to finally give us some recognition for beating what turned out to be pretty good ASU and MSU teams. We're one of the 20 best teams in the country, I think. But if you're getting at BCS-at large bid, I don't know. That's tough real estate for any three-loss team.
And we didn't blow out Pitt.

i know, i was just saying finishing in the top 15 finish would've been and could have happened if we took care of business against Pitt. If that game went they way it should have it could have been a very successful year all things considered...wasn't necessarily talking at large bid.

I agree, that is the game that tempts one to turn the perception of this season from decent into disappointing. The other three losses make sense.

The wild thing is that this team still would've won the Pac-12 South and the Big Ten Legend divisions...

Well I came back this morning, and skimmed over the thread. I watched part or all of three games yesterday.

Looked to me that the majority of the Irish played with an effort consistent with the winners of the day.

I still feel that the game plan is not on par with the coaching efforts presented by the other winning teams of the day.

I am not very concerned with the bowl games this year. But I will be watching coaching changes (rumors) closely.

Speaking of coaching, I don't count the early part of the game with the adjustment of "let them get behind us" as a positive tactical change.

Yesterday there were a few players; Onwualu, Robinson, Jones, Williams and particularly Okwara who played fabulously against the best competition of the year. Onwualu was a beast on offense, and was the only receiver that didn't get mugged regularly. And on defense Okwara out Stanforded Stanford. He was master of his own path. That kid better start next year. Oh and Ishaq plays defensive end like a killer.

I said that earlier Ishaq played very good on one leg. You can tell he was running with a limp still.

I wish we knew the balance of play calls offensively between BK and Martin.

Doesn't matter who the QB is. ND play calling offensively is still very suspect at times.

Don't you think the play calling will get "better" with a mobile quarterback?

And conversely, Collinsworth was "wrecked" this last year with injuries. But, still our best player at safety was out. I maintain that Nicky Baratti was the safety equivalent of a mobile quarterback for the Irish.

He is a big, strong, fast safety, that obviously made good choices and adapted to the speed of the game quickly. He had a key interception on a touchdown drive by Michigan in his second game as a true freshman.

I don't get cultish over players, but just think with Stanford fresh in your mind, about how big of a difference, just having these two players would have made for '13!

The current playing calling wouldn't seem nearly as bad with a mobile QB with 1/2 an arm. Combine that with another year experience calling plays for Martin, have to think we'll be much improved in that department next year.

You know that is a good point. Martin walked into a "hot mess" with the offense. Qb horror story after horror story, from Clausen leaving a year early, to Crist, to losing Kiel and Golson, to Hendrix's lack of development, to Tommy's limitations. And with the Molnar mess and fiasco to boot. With Hinton and Warnier leaving the year before, Martin had four assistants on the offensive staff with one year or less with their position group at ND, including himself! And an offense designed for a mobile quarterback. And three new starters on the offensive line after losing your two best running backs and a Mackey award winner! WOW!

So, we're sure Tommy is not going to be our quarterback next year? I mean, I appreciate him stepping in and filling the spot but I really dislike his play. I just hope there is no sixth year of eligibility or some magical way of him coming back again.

For him it would be a "fifth," but no, you have no worries!
