would Diaco take the BC job?

Apparently he's a top candidate for it. I'd put it at "maybe" but all in all I'd be surprised... I've heard it's going to take a legit middle-tier BCS conference job or better for Diaco to leave this year. Something like Iowa level. Boston College is currently at the bottom of a bad conference... hard to imagine him leaving.

He'd be downgrading big time if he took the BC job. I'd let it ride one more year if I was him, his stock will only go up. It's not like he's at some middle tier program now, he's got a good gig so he can be choosy when it comes to his future.

ND has the money, so they better pay Diaco whatever he needs to stick around.

Diaco has been a huge part in getting us into the National Title picture, we really need to keep him.

BCS head coaching jobs are really hard to get.

I think if he were offered the Iowa job he would leave for sure. Always hard to turn down your alma mater. He may get an interview for a place like Tennesee but I doubt he would get the job. You would think FSU's Stoops would be ahead of him just based on his track record (hopefully)

Yes but he's a prominent coordinator at a highly visible prominent university that can afford to pay him head coach money. Backup College is not a good school, they are the bottom of the barrel program at a bottom of the barrel conference. If he waits another year or two his star will keep rising and he can get a better job.

The Iowa job is not opening anytime soon. The buyout for Ferentz is freaking astronomical. I assume that was a leverage device to keep his allegiance to Iowa and not look around.

I think we should worry about a guy who actually interviewed for a high profile job and that would be Alford in Green Bay...Ok cya guys have fun.

How often do good BCS jobs come open? What if ND had a down year when one of them does come open?

HE was HC in waiting at Texas
He'd be waiting until quite a while. The fact is he was patient and landed a pretty sweet gig at an elite SEC school. Being a Gator fan I'm sure you'll agree UF>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BC. Hell the USC job will probably come open in a year or two. Eventually Mack Brown will retire and that job will come open.

So TN, Auburn, Cal, Colorado, and Iowa. All of those jobs seem pretty sweet to me (they may not all happen but you get the idea).

Last year you had Arizona, Arizona St., Arkansas, Illinois, Ole Miss, Pitt, Rutgers, TAMU, ULCA.

Year before you had Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Minnesota, UNC, OSU, Pitt, SDSU, Stanford, Vandy, West Virginia.

And so on... 2010 College Football Coaching Changes, College Football New Coaches

Yeah but that doesn't negate that fact that Cal is a better job than BC.

I agree Cal is a better job but I dont see Cal calling Diaco. And the Muschamp to Florida situation is not the norm. A head coach in waiting gets a big time football job, because the current head coach decides to walk away on his own accord.

And Diaco is associate head coach here.... wtf is your point? Jobs come open EVERY SINGLE YEAR. No reason for him to make a move to a job he doesn't really like, and from what I've heard we can expect him to stay around until he gets that offer... at least a couple more years most likely.

Even when he leaves Chuck Martin just goes back over to D to be coord and we get someone like Jeff Quinn for OC. Not really that huge of a deal when the day eventually comes... but Diaco is THE MAN and I hope he stays as long as possible.

Right and it's not like he's coaching at Okefenokee Tech or something and is starving. Notre Dame will be more than happy to properly compensate him for his services.

I'm not gonna lie, when I saw the Dooley firing I thought of Diaco.

I'd hate to see him go, but I know he'll have the offers soon.

I cant help but remember Lou Holz when he was coach of the NY Jets. He said the atmosphere was deflating. College was his love. I dont know..... but I think kelly is of that same mold or atleast I hope he is.

I don't have immediate concerns with Martin/Diaco-they are both in prominent positions within the program. Kelly-Nutz! (reference that in a PM and u get vcash)

The one I would be concerned with is Alford, a hugely succesful recruiter with the Irish, a (from what I gather) much loved coach, who IMO, is and will be an integral part of the staff.

There are only so many A/HC and Coord titles to go around....

BTW-I'm sure this has been brought up elsewhere on the board, but when Spurrier mentioned that Alabama could beat an NFL team, the only logical team 'Bama would beat could only be one of the Redskin teams @sshat Spurrier coached.

I seem to remember Kelly saying a year or two ago that he wasn't an NFL guy. And that college was where he was better suited. I could be wrong but I'm sure at some point he said it.

Yeah. Kelly's been in college his entire career. He's spent that whole time developing a process to build up 19 and 20 year old men. The NFL is a totally different animal.

As for Diaco, I actually think he'd be most likely to leave for a second-tier job. Probably in the Northeast or Midwest. Maybe in an NFL market where college ball isn't huge.
By this I mean something like BC (or Pitt or Maryland or Rutgers or Georgia Tech). BCS conference. Some resources and good enough to be competitive. But not the pressure-cooker that comes with the SEC or even the major Big 10 teams. He just doesn't seem like that kind of program frontman. There's a reason he only speaks publicly once a year.

Well maybe he's more comfortable staying as a coordinator for a few more years than. He can make just as much money as a head coach being our defensive coordinator and he's under a lot less pressure.

Curious to see how much some of you think head coaches really make? The "we'll just pay him head coach money to stay" argument sounds great...but is quite another thing in reality. Is ND really going to pay Diaco around $2 million to be defensive coordinator? Charlie Strong is making $2.3 million at Louisville. Louisville. Some of these head coaches at lesser BCS conferences schools make more money than I think some of you may actually realize.

to be honest, if we're winning like this, money is no object at Notre Dame.

Besides throwing more money at him, I don't know what else Kelly could do to keep Diaco at ND... aside from naming him "Head Coach in Waiting" like Brown did with Muschamp at UT. That at least assured that Muschamp didn't jump until he received an offer he couldn't refuse (the Florida job).
