Ummm no. Committee will see we beat scUM head-to-head.

Talking in general, and for the potential scenario at the end of the year if ND does drop one, and scUM wins out. In that case, Ummm there sure could be a debate.

Committee takes into account head-to-head wins as a greater quality factor.

Clearly states as such.

? where

the only thing i can find on the committee website is

https://collegefootballplayoff.com/sports/2016/10/11/_131504729625539914.aspx

How are the teams that go to the playoff determined?
The four teams that go to the College Football Playoff are determined by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. The selection committee chooses the four teams for the playoff based on strength of schedule, head-to-head results against common opponents, championships won and other factors.

I have heard them say that they prioritize current performance and trends, and where a team is today.

Are we really concerned with a team who only beat Rutgers by 3 and put 18 on them or beat Nebraska by 3?

Not overly concerned, but it's on the road, they beat us last time, they did win 10 last season, beat MSU on the road, and just clobbered Wiscy. It's fair to say they are improving. It's also fair to say that the team/coach underestimated NW in the not so distant past. We should however beat them by 20

I guess that can be interpreted in a few ways.

I read that as head-to-head comparison.

But touché. That is indeed what I was thinking of for certain and that’s the only verbiage I can find also.

Hopefully we won't have to worry about it lol.
I don't think it will come down to it. I'm 70% sure we'll go undefeated, and 80% sure scUM drops another to OSU.

You don’t have to be but you better hope the players are b/c I’ll be pleasantly surprised if ND can go undefeated. NW is just as likely as any of the remaining four to knock the Irish off. ND doesn’t get the benefit of losing to a bad Pitt or Syracuse like Clemson did the last two years or tOSU losing to VT when they won it all.

If we were at home, I'd feel it was a trap game, but we lock it in on the road. They beat us the last time, but IIRC we had a lot of injuries to starters at that time. This won't be an easy out, but they don't have the troops to match.

With the close proximity to SB and Chicago having a lot of Irish fans, I wonder what the stands will look like?

It will be interesting to see which NW team shows up; the team that just shellacked a (VERY overrated) Wisconsin team by 14 (should have been worse) and took scUM to the brink, or the team who beat Rutgers and Nebraska by a total of 6 points.

I think the fact that this is a night game actually helps the cause. Knowing that it's in prime time and that the crowd will have a little extra juice makes this game appear bigger for the players IMO. If it's a noon kick, I'm a littler worried about our focus level. The guys already handled Lane Stadium, so this should be easier to handle under the lights.

I hope we jump on them early, and don't give NW the type of game they like to play, which is scrappy and ugly, low scoring affairs.

Will be interesting to see what Drue's status is this week. His presence will obviously be hard to replace.

Stadium should be well over 50% Irish. Even half of the folks in purple probably watch more ND football than NW.

Not worried about FSU at all but NW, Syracuse and USC have me worried. Letting any of them stick around is asking for trouble.

I'm looking for the final to be the same as the Navy game score. I see this entire atmosphere almost identical to the VT game and then the Irish finishing off just fine.

Northwestern's head coach is a little known Armenian with an impossible to spell last name.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Their current HC is a fiery Irishman who hates ND and still coaches w/ a chip on his shoulder. Look out.

Well evidently we had to be concerned about a team that lost by 45 points to Penn State and 31 points to UCF, Ohio State had to be concerned about a team that lost to Eastern Michigan, etc. That's the nature of a trap game.

NW beat Wisky and very nearly beat Michigan. They definitely suffer from chronic playing to their opponent, but they will play to our level.

Didn't realize NW recovered 3 fumbles in Wisconsin territory. As long as we avoid dumb luck like that, I think we will be fine.

Hoping we got the fumbles out of our system the past 3 weeks with Book + Boykin + Dexter Williams.

It’s the trappiest trap game of all time. I’m soooo glad they just handled Wisconsin, because at least that removes the “overlook” angle.

But after cross country travel, after Navy (body blow theory), and against a team that will be UP because every football player there would rather be at ND.

Couldn't disagree more. There should be no body blow theory in effect.

Normally I'd say otherwise, but the way Navy implements the body blow effect is by drawing out long and physical drives. That didn't happen. ND's defense got Navy off the field fast, especially in the 1st half. Their drives were essentially 3-5 plays and done. The reason ND has worn down post Navy in the past is because they're getting those 10-12 play drives that absorb half the quarter.

ND shouldn't be nursing anything more than bumps and bruises, with the exception of Tranquill. I also have to imagine we're at least a "bit" tougher to defend than Sparty or Wisconsin, with their literally non-existent passing game.

I don't anticipate this will be a blowout, but I think ND will be able to keep their distance or if it is close, pull away late.

Blindside block that knocked the wind out of him.

That’s right! That was the play that Neueisel said is “legal” but falls under the targeting definition of hitting a defenseless player so he didn’t understand how that is still allowable when they claim to be concerned w/ player safety.

Guess it falls under the same rule as being able to smash a wide receiver catching the ball moving across the middle of the field.
