Question:
Watching the FSU game, there were multiple underclassmen playing for FSU. Now FSU has been a recruiting powerhouse for a while under Jimbo with the success of Crablegs Winston and the National Championship. What happened to those recruits? Has their been a ton of injuries to upperclassmen, the just wound up being overrated or did the typical Florida thug athlete curse strike?
Their recruiting rankings have been good for the last few years, but their classes were skewed toward the skill positions and away from the trenches. Their OL has been shit AND injured, which is always a fantastic combo. They have 0 healthy tackles. Their OL is entirely centers and guards and a guy that was on the defensive line until this spring (he'd never played OL at any level ever). Their LBs are laughably bad.
They lost 6 games last year, so this isn't a *complete* surprise, but kinda. Their locker room culture is shot and that is largely on Jimbo - he's a tactics guy and not a leader of men-type. That's important if the talent isn't there. Francois has no mobility after Bama broke his leg - that doesn't help and he is a terrible leader, as well. That he continues to start is on Taggart.
Coaching has been terrible, in some areas. Special teams is bad. They get a ton of insanely dumb penalties like WRs not lining up correctly on the line - that happens at least once per game and is totally on coaching. I think they had like 16 penalties vs NC St. That's bad coaching.
Taggart has also not been good. I think his main issue is that he underestimated the problems they faced with personnel and locker room culture and did not correct them as necessary. Many fans want him out already but that ain't happenin. IDK if FSU is too big for him, but I'm also not sure if he realizes just how much is riding on going like 8-4 next year. Their schedule next year is stupid easy, but they cannot not win 8 or he will be gone.
