Bold prediction based on zero inside info: Phil plays this week. With Book possibly out the rest of the season, Phil needs to be ready as QB2, so he gets reps if we are winning big in the second half. If we aren't winning and Wimbush or the run game struggles, I could see Phil coming in as a change of pace.

With Wimbush playing, I think this relieves some of the pressure that a lot of us are putting on the boys to win by a wide margin or get potentially leaped by scUM.

At this point, just win, baby, and if it's ugly and we only score 24 points (our offenses norm with BW), I think the committee gives us a pass for not blowing them out.

I still think there's a chance we can run them off the field, given BWs big play ability, the weather and whatnot.

Also, Chip and BK should just let BW loose and grip it and rip it. There was a lot of speculation in September that they were limiting BW to the pocket and not letting him run to develop his passing game...that won't be the case on Saturday.

That was mentioned before by Irishize and I agree. While Book has been the biggest contributor to the increased production on O, Dex has certainly been a part of it. Having both Wimbush and Dex with the ability to make house calls on any given carry should have some impact.

Exactly the fact that the defense has to worry about dex taking off at any moment should help wimbush in the passing game a little more. I do agree with irishize tho the Oline is something to worry about

Are these actual starters, as in they played last week?

Or are these "starters" who have been out a while?

Hoping it's the first one.

That’s my hope. If BW can make the right reads, the RPO can be deadly w/ those two. I’m less worried about BW & more worried about that OL which is a glaring weak spot IMO...at least in run blocking....they’ve been great in pass pro.

I'd have a pretty quick trigger on the RPO's with Wimbush, he just hasn't shown consistency with it. If I'm Long, I'd like to see what he can do out of the pistol. Use a lot of 11 and 12 personnel with Wright as an H-back. I think that could help the run game. Eliminates the quick reads for Wimbush. From there you can play action pass, use designed rollouts to move his launching point, etc.

Can’t argue with that. If BW’s history is any indication, the first offensive drive should be efficient & successful w/ a TD. He seems to thrive w/ scripted plays. After that, it’s a crapshoot.

No idea on Minshew, but their OL depth is so bad anything hurts.

Looks like Taylor has been out the past 2 games with an injury.

They didn't release it. Reporters agreed to sit on it for near a week as a favor. Reporters are paid to report the news, not be a mouthpiece of a team looking out for their interests above all else.

What I meant was WHY did ND let the reporters know period at this time? Are the legally required to disclose injuries?

Minshew is a starter. Taylor was a starter earlier this year, then became an OR with Samuels.

Neither position group is worth a darn, so losing a starter, or and "or", or even a second stringer hurts.

Nah, they've got sources so it's not coming directly from ND brass. They talk to players directly... off the record... and stuff gets out. This program does not have tight lips and there is no way that the starting QB being out was gonna stay under wraps.

With all the talk about what the play calling might be......
from the full 2017 season

+Wimbush’s performance at the intermediate level shows his most glaring flaw as a passer. He completed just 29-of-62 passes when throwing between 10-19 yards downfield, which is often the area where quarterbacks have to navigate the most defenders on the field.

+Some of Wimbush’s poor numbers aren’t entirely his fault, however. Notre Dame receivers had a 16 percent drop rate on throws from Wimbush.

+Wimbush’s accuracy was also an issue, however, as 17.5 percent of his throws were uncatchable. And when he was facing pressure, that uncatchable rate rose to 19.4 percent—almost one out of every five attempts.

+Even though Wimbush wasn’t great at passing under pressure, he did excel at avoiding costly mistakes. Surprisingly, none of Wimbush’s interceptions came while under pressure, although pressure did cause him to fumble three times (twice against Georgia, once against Miami).

The Line has only dropped to ND -16.5 with the O/U dropping to -52.

Surprisingly little movement for the change from the 38 ppg Book attack to the Wimbush less Dex 24 ppg attack. Particularly as Brandon has seen little PT the past 6 weeks. He's fresh, he's rested, I hope the sidelines view and film study plus backup reps have given him better field vision and judgement on his reads. He doesn't need a sharper arm, he needs a quicker more accurate read of the defense to quicken his decision making. IF his decision making matches the speed of the game, he'll add those 14 points to the game total as a better QB.

Dex adds a dimension to Brandon's running game but not in the magnitude of 13 points (the 1 point drop in the spread versus the 14 point differential from the Book 38 ppg attack). Brandon also didn't have to contend with a Barless OLine.

Wow. Remember when NBC could knock it out the park like this? Put it on the big screen while working this morning. From start to finish, might be the greatest broadcast of all time.

Bob Costas
Charlie Jones
Todd Christensen
John Dockery
& OJ.

Killer broadcast crew

Yep... I'll be here all week.

Yup, NBC sucks now. Our next contract should require upping their game.

Any broadcast crew that features Flutie will be small and weak, just like him.

In fairness though, I think merely growing older, coupled with the world we live in, has removed the "specialness" out of virtually all sports broadcasts. Every freaking game being televised weekly, hot takes, politically correct announcers, over-produced and faux pageantry, sponsorships of every part of the show, social media, video game-like camera angles, celebrity-ism, and broadcaster self-promotion have all contributed to make games simple moments in time, instead of valuable relics that aid in preserving history.

I agree 100%, but NBC could do a lot better in the commentator space. It's doesn't have to be special all the time, it just needs to not suck.
