Still no decision for Colts. A team rep has informed reporters no decision will be made by end of night.

Technically the job is open. Pagano's contract ended on Sunday and team would not need to "fire" him. It's either offer/extend a new contract or hire someone else.

Coach Pagano has agreed to an extension. Tune in live to watch the press conference at 10:30PM tonight
— Indianapolis Colts (@Colts) January 5, 2016

I like it as long as we get rid of Grigson!!!

How do you go from one to the other in two and a half hours

EDIT. Actually about one and a half looking at tweet time

Sean Payton apparently wants the Niners job. Wherever he ends up Saints will want a draft pick in return.

I would LOOOVE that as a Niners fan, but why in God's name is anyone wanting to work for the Niners under York AND Baalke?

Especially someone as smart and as accomplished as Payton?

I just do not see it happening, even though now I am giddy at the thought. Especially if they can get a decent QB there, because Kap is not the answer and needs to be cut for cap savings. Just start over with someone that SP would be able to mold and get a veteran to teach him the ropes.

Never underestimate the allure of getting paid millions of dollars to live in the Bay Area, for some people.

Well, this stinks. I thought the Indy job was the only one that had any chance of luring Saban away from Bama. I don't really believe he is going back to the NFL but I thought there was a slim chance Irsay would make an offer he couldn't say no to.

Oh well, good for Pagano - he seems like a stand up guy.

[You're ignoring the fact they finished 6-2 and the Ford family has voiced their support for Caldwell. I'm not saying I want him to stay, just what's been said by the family. ][/QUOTE]

Saying there is less heat on him right now is directly acknowledging the fact that the team finished 6-2 despite him. The way you respond appears more personal as I was objectively stating a possibility based on living in the area, listening to the local sports talk and watching the games.

The Bucs are stupid. They improved significantly this season and now they want to start over again...

Wonder if the Giants may look at Lovie. He has been to a Super Bowl.

Only reason they look at him is Rooney Rule.
Seriously. Two years, and improving. Weird.

I said that to a coworker half kidding last night, but I wouldn't be surprised if they at least reached out.

This smells like a beef b/t owner and coach got personal.

maybe he demanded staff changes that lovie wasn't willing to make.

hopefully king, shefter, or mort can do some digging and find out the real scoop.

lol the giants better not hire Lovie, listening to him speak is painful. Almost as painful as listening to that mangini guy from Cleveland when Quinn was there. When a coach speaks it should feel motivational at the very least coherent, not sleep /wrist inducing.

The assumption is fire Lovie in order to make Koetter the HC, other wise Koetter would have took a hc job somewhere else making Winston start from scratch again.

You should listen to Pagano. He's a talking textbook of cliches.
Team kept fighting.
Proud of every man on this team.
We'll roll our sleeves up and get back to work.
Everyone knows what their job is.
Next man up.
Our backs were up against the wall but we never quit.
This team is made of of winners.

There's a sports talk show in Indy that has resorted to tapping the bell (ding!) every time Pagano uses a cliche in his PC's. It's pretty funny to hear.

I guess that makes some amount of sense in that they are hitching their wagon to their #1 overall draft pick.

Lovie will be just fine, I'm sure.

One thing that has always been a recurring theme with Lovie, is that his players LOVE playing for him. There is absolutely nothing to show that he doesn't motivate his players. You are making a big assumption here based on nothing but how you feel about his voice.

Not to mention, the guy you described above could easily be Belichek, Coughlin or McCarthy.

Niners apparently have Shaw on the short list. As a fan, I'd be willing to take one for the team in the hopes that it would be a short- and long-term net positive for the Irish. I mean, Niners are going to suck either way for a while anyway.

I think there's a slim to zero chance Shaw leaves Stanford. Even for the local 49ers. He's got a good thing going and they're close to contending for a championship.

People said the same exact thing about Harbaugh before he left for the Niners.

Not sure I see it, but it is not illogical to think that way, IF Shaw wants to coach in the NFL.

The Niners screwed up so badly with Harbaugh, I cannot think that any reasonable top-flight coach would want to go coach under Baalke and York, especially after they canned their hand-picked boy after one season.

apparently shaw stated he wouldn't even listen to the NFL suitors...he's at his alma mater, and has that machine going....NO STRESS from fans to win, but is winning...he's got it made

Chip Kelly to the Niners is going to be even worse than it sounds.

OMG, did not take long for them to become among the biggest laughingstocks in the NFL...AGAIN and to extend it by hiring the worst possible fit for a HC they could have chosen.

Hopefully they can him after 3 years, though having Kap at QB for another year is just going to make things that much worse, as he cannot read more than half the field, probably less now.

And who is going to catch balls now that Davis is gone, Boldin is over the hill and they literally have only Torrey Smith?

Hyde is not the right kind of RB for this system either.

Then, factor in how awful the defense is going to be as it has to defend for 2/3 of the game if not more because the offense will be going 3-and-out so often. Maybe they fire Kelly after one year?

49ers interviewing Mike Vrabel for their DC gig. Would be a big step up for him
