ND really should just put the names on the jerseys. They should have done it a long time ago.
I know it's not a popular idea among some fans, but I'm with you. I was always a Lou Holtz: "they're lucky they have numbers--all they need is the 'ND' on their shoulder" type guy, but it does feel long overdue.

How are there only two legitimate options for ND in the year 2023? Anti trust laws just get ignored and these start ups get hammered?

It’s Nike. Prister can’t keep secrets and he’s pretty much said it on each of the last two pods
I wouldn't hate it:

FWIW, Sampson did his annual State of the Program fan survey recently. One of the questions was "When Notre Dame football takes the field to kick off the 2024 season, the logo on its football jersey should be?" Like 70% of respondents (n = 1600) said Nike or Jordan brand.

So that would seem to be a popular way to go.

Who else are you going to pick if you don’t like UA or Adidas? Not sure either of those are too much into the CFB game anymore either. Sucks there aren’t more legit apparel company options than Nike.

THOUGHTS:

1) The old gold-gold pants were bad and you should feel bad for liking them.
2) Put names on the jerseys. The kitsch value isn't worth the practical considerations and anonymizing your student athletes is probably an active detriment to your program at the moment.
3) UA's footwear sucks but both Adidas and Nike are very good. New Balance, et al. don't do a wide enough variety of sports equipment to make a deal practical.
4) The single most important thing ND should do here is make a deal that directly benefits the student athletes. They won't do pay-for-play (which is fine) but the athletic sponsorship's value is almost entirely dependent on using the student athletes as billboards. The money in these deals is directly tied to their images and likenesses. Create a method for them to participate in these benefits. Heck, they should get all the benefits.
5) More horizontal stripes.

I don't agree with many of these but if there's an anti-gold pants club, I'm the President, so thumbs up.

We can't ever go away from the mustard pants. I have the perfect pair of shorts that are dead on match and they are part of my game day apparel. ND is all about tradition and my mustard shorts matter!!

Can't go away from them cuz the helmet doesn't look like it did in the 90s anymore.

As for the stock. Scott Malpass turned $400M into $20B in less than 20 years… he didn’t hold onto that position and watch huge gains evaporate.

This deal will be a tell-tale sign if ND is really all in w/ Coach MF or just paying lip service to it's fans. If you're all in you make the switch to Nike, end of story.
What's the big difference? Why is our apparel deal such a tell-tale sign of all-in-ness, end of story? Seems like there are reasonable arguments for/against all the major options, and it'll probably depend on the economics of each offer.

I'm as cynical as anyone but I have a hard time believing they'll throw a ten-year apparel contract to Under Armor just because the outgoing athletic director's son is some sort of mid-level executive there. Cal might lose his job at UA, because they won't have many colleges left to market. But he's not gonna starve if we sign with Nike instead. Maybe he'll even get a job there. They'll hire anyone and pe probably has more relevant experience than Pops Moore.
