Couple things:

1) Cant tell if people are being serious.. But Reebok is barely even a thing anymore. Definitely don't make football cleats anymore, @BeauBenken.

2) People saying Nike, but not Jordan. You old heads realize its the exact same stuff right? Just a different logo...

3) It'll be UA again. Been mentioned numerous times but ND wont due business with Nike due to the working conditions in China (reportedly)

4) Being a Jordan school would no question help in recruiting and bring some more life to the program. It's sad, but these kids love it and want to wear it. They hate UA and rarely wear Adidas.

4) Stop with the Champion shit.
I was being facetious anyways. But I find it funny how many people liked my ideas. hah

Wait, we could fix the whole Champion and Reebok no longer making football equipment issue by getting stock options from those two companies and letting Swarbrick's other kids manage those as well.

I know, but some people actually believe it
I do like Champion as a brand name though. And being unique would be cool, but yea, they haven't been in the football game since the early 90s.

Funny that they've almost circled back around to being cool. Honestly, I'd rock their gear...if they had it.

Wonder if this is true b/c I suspect every shoe/apparel manufacturer produces their stuff in China or India or somewhere else w/ shitty conditions. Seems like a lazy excuse if true.

That said, I agree…ND will be w/ UA for the foreseeable future IMO.

That’s b/c adidas is a legit brand. I believe they own Reebok but it’s devolved to CrossFit, UFC, & retro shoes from Reebok’s glory days in the late 80s-early 90s

Has anyone thought about Reebok? Maybe we can make that cool again? Or Adidas would be retro cool

If not, just stick with UA, most everyone loves the stuff.

That's my same exact feelings except with Jordan brand
Jordan Brand just feels basketbally in the way Adidas felt like soccer. Football pays the bills (but not the buyouts evidently), but I have the other men's and women's sports in mind with this too. The baseball team wearing green jerseys with the Jordan logo on them is a weird brand.

If mens and womens hoops could get the Jumpman while everyone else got the Swoosh, count me in, but I know that isn't how it would work.

Hopefully they stick with Under Armour and continue that brand.

It may have been true at one time or something. An acquaintance of mine swears that working conditions in Vietnam (which he was involved in for his work) are night and day from they were in the 1990s, but IDK.

UA manufactures in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Jordan, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.

I agree but I think some Jordan brand schools just go w/ the Nike Swoosh on their jersey in lieu of the Jumpman logo.

Overall, I agree as well. Just go w/ Nike. Kids love wearing NIke Dunks & AF1 just as much as Jordans.

Nike needs to come to the table with the best offer to make it easy for ND to make the switch, that further secures Nike's stranglehold in the football blue blood market and ND should be rewarded with the most lucrative apparel deal so far.

There should also be a stipulation that all of our kids get 'X' amount of custom gear created only for the team, to give it some shine. Players would love it and I read how Oregon gets something like that. I could see kids being drawn to limited-release merch as part of their yearly compensation package for being at ND.

No, the players love the apparel. It’s the shoes that are the problem. I’d personally rather go barefoot…

Wonder if there’s a way they could do footwear separately.

Top 20 lucrative apparel deals. <---- click the link

Brand apparel deals broken into market ownership. <---- click the link

Here's a couple quick google links that show where things are currently positioned. There is no reason we shouldn't be near the top of those deals. It looks like Adidas has aggressively courted teams with big money so I'd be okay with any of the top three but I'm with everyone else in that I hate UA shoes so I guess I'm rooting for Nike first, Adidas second but I don't really care either way about UA.

I don't see that happening.

I've never owned a pair of UA shoes. I don't even think I've tried a pair on that I can recall.

lol stop. If you polled every player. Not a single kid would say they'd rather rock the UA gear over Nike/ Jordan.

I see more teens wearing UA than I ever have before. But please no basketball players on our football uniforms or apparel

Just a counterpoint--Jeter came out with an apparel line years ago with 'Jumpman' as the logo, so the logo has been in baseball longer than it has in football. I never thought it was weird as a baseball player. I think its a clean logo tbh.

Totally forgot about that.

I can't get past Jumpman being a basketball player image. I'm also 45 so my swag back in the day consisted of black Nikes and Champion gear. I say go with what the kids like these days if it helps recruiting even a smidge.

I think there are two reasons that Nike won’t happen.

1) Nike is such an established brand that the marginal value of adding ND is worth less to them than their competitors. So they are going to offer less than UA/Adidas/etc.

2) Oregon is their flagship college team and ND won’t want to be second class citizens. I suspect Nike started the Jumpman thing to make it more palatable for other big name schools like Michigan but I think it’s still an obstacle from ND’s point of view.

Let's be revolutionary and be the first school to have the crossover of the Tiger Woods collection for other sports!

I don't mind the jumpman logo crossing over into other sports. Would love to see ND go a different direction with their apparel contract. Like a few others I have never owned UA shoes and the only UA clothing I have is ND clothes. I would think that part of the goal of sponsoring a college is to get their fans to wear that brand - hasn't worked for me in this case, but definitely worked for me with Adidas and even Champion.

We sure went a long way from “Hi, I’m visiting South Bend this year and would like recommendations” to where we are at now.
