So i've been looking for an NBA and NFL team to root for. I decided to make the Nuggets my NBA team, but haven't decided on an NFL team. I'm at work bored and was thinking of teams to root for but can't decide.

I'd like a team that isn't overally popular (no Steelers, Packers, etc)

Or a team that's won a championship lately.

Any ideas/suggestions? Or an argument for your favorite team?

Obviously not a big deal, just want a team to root for so I can try to get into the NFL

Dolphins... New coaches, new QB. Nothing but potential; no where to go but up!

Do a fantasy league and watch your interest level skyrocket!

Bears will drive you nuts. Always a good defense and haven't had an offense for as long as I can remember. Cutler is a tool but now they have a top notch WR threat so maybe they can cobble something together. They need a Trent Dilfer type, don't ef up and manage the game. Cutler will win as many as he loses chucking it around.

Vikings have Blanton, Rudolph and Carlson who should all put up big minutes. I hate to direct someone to the hated Vikings but there is probably as much ND to NFL glory there as anywhere. Adrian Peterson is pretty bad a$$ too.

I honestly dont see the dolphins doing great at all this year or in the near future. They just dont seem to have there stuff together..but that is just my opinion. The team I would suggest would be the 49ers. They were ever so close last year to making it to the Super Bowl and only got better this offseason. Last year they were a suprise team, and should deff be able to live up to expections this year.

That has been our quarterback situation the last seventy years, it has not worked much. Cutler is exactly the quarterback we need. You want Kyle Orton back because he can provide what you need. But come on, if we have Cutler during the Super Bowl, we win that game. Those 26 or so interceptions two years ago, I'll say 5-10 were his fault if that. Bad receivers, bad o-line, missed pass interferences call (watch the San Francisco game that year, and Greg Olsen gets literally tackled and they still don't call it) and so many other just stupid stuff. And Trent Dilfer sucks, even he admits it.

.

I disagree with all of this. Football in general can drive you nuts, but the Bears are one of the most consistent NFL teams out there. They almost always compete for a playoff spot and usually have a drop-off year or excellent year every 3-5 seasons. Generally, you know what you are getting with the Bears.

Cutler might be the most talented QB to ever play in Chicago. We have had nothing but "Trent Dilfer" type QB's since I was born. Trent Dilfer is also the ONLY "Trent Dilfer-Type" QB to ever win a Super Bowl, so I respectfully disagree that going back to that would lead to success.

@KPenn - Chicago is near Notre Dame, we play in their stadium this year, they usually have a couple domers sprinkled in their roster and you can expect to compete for the playoffs on a yearly basis. They are rich in tradition and play great defense.

oh... and this....

Depends what you like in a football team. Teams with great history that haven't won recently: Dallas, Oakland, Bills.

Dallas probably isn't what you're looking for. Too top name and super popular.

If you enjoy a history of tough *** football, Oakland is your place. Everybody outside of Oakland tends to laugh if you say you're a Raiders fan. It's part of it though.

The Bills once were on the top of the mountain...and tripped and smoked their face on a rock 3 straight times. I've NEVER met a legitimate Bills fan. You're from NY too.

Kyle Orton is no Trent Dilfer. Cutler can't put the four games together needed to win it all. He implodes regularly. I'll root for him and hope he proves me wrong but I think his attitude is toxic and his play way too inconsistent. They were right to make a move for SOMEBODY and I guess no higher tier QB in their right mind would opt for the Bears given what the offense had to work with at the time.

And just watch the Super Bowl shuffle a few times and tell me you can't love Da Bears!

I'm a giants fan but since they don't meet your criteria I'd go with San Francisco. Not too popular right now, but have a lot of positive history and they are a good team currently.

I would argue that Orton is actually more talented than Dilfer ever was. That Raven team would have been a playoff team with me as QB. He never had a single season over 2900 yards passing for crying out loud. He had little to do with the Raven's Super Bowl. They won it despite having Dilfer as a QB.

You could argue that Cutler has a problem staying on the field, but I really don't know how you can say that his play is incosistent either.

The Vikings. A lot of success many years ago, currently stocked with some ND talent. Or the Ravens.. great defense with a super bowl win in 2000.

You should root for the Cowboys. They are the ND of the NFL.

You'll laugh (at their discipline and wonderlic scores), you'll cry (during the playoffs) and you'll fall in love (with Romo's gf). Their stadium doesn't mess around either. You can buy a "butt suite" that's below field level to watch the cheerleaders, you can be in the upper deck watching a pole-dancer or you can even pay to watch from a screen outside. You can't lose!

If ou like hating the human race i suggest Cleveland... Nothing beats having to listen to people talk NFL, how well their teams are doing and how much this makes them happy... only to have them ask for my team.... I of course tell them to go fvck themselves...

Go Browns.

Colts shouldn't be to shabby in the near future either, and their record over the past 10 years is pretty noteworthy.

I'm a Colts fan and secondarily a lions fan. I've been a Colts fan since I was a kid. I think they're a pretty nice team to root for if you're just starting out. I think there's something to be said for getting in on the ground floor. You get the satisfaction of watching the team be built up piece by piece getting to know the players along the way. They've got a young QB you may have heard of and some interesting pieces to build around.
As for the lions I became a fan because that's my best friends team. If you don't have a team, watch some games with some of your friends.

My hometown Cincinnati Bengals (come on everyone, get out your criminal jokes).

They are the youngest team in the AFC North (aside from Cleveland, who has a ways to go, and their "young" QB will be old in 5 seasons... will he even be good enough by then to be considered a franchise QB?). They made the playoffs last year with a rookie QB and no.1 WR who didn't even have an offseason to work with. They have a consistently adequate defense under Mike Zimmer.

They are trending up, while the Steelers and Ravens appear to be treading water. The Steelers have big questions in protecting Roethlisberger, and Joe Flacco is still too erratic to carry Baltimore on his back late in the playoffs.

The Bengals still have questions in run blocking for the Law Firm, but for the most part they have more "future" players already supporting and winning than the "kings" of the division.

Of course, I'm a homer and any Steelers or Ravens fans around here will undoubtedly debate all of my points.

I third the Chiefs! Young, hungry team, and they're from a smaller market. Quinn's the backup, and there's a good chance he'll get a little time this year. They also picked up Kyle Mcarthy, although I think he's on IR?

And the stadium? All I have to say is I've been to 6 Chiefs/Raiders games, and that place gets rocking! The renovations aren't Dallas good, but it's pretty-nice. Great tailgaiting too with no SBPD cops.

I was also at the KC/Green Bay game last year, and it was electric!
