1. Interview with the ACC commissioner. He is acting like all is well with ND and the ACC. Water under the bridge
2. Today, they did an early 2026 prediction article. We got the second most votes to win it all. Also a section for predictions. In there Sampson said "Notre Dame formally notifies the ACC of its intention to withdraw from the league and enters into a scheduling partnership with the Big Ten/SEC to fill out its missing football scheduling inventory. The rest of the Irish sports shift to the Big East."

With the Big Ten whiffing on its preferred CFP format and failing to secure an outside funding package from UC Investments, the league will make a splash by reaching a future football scheduling agreement with Notre Dame. The league will provide up to six games each year for the Irish — including an annual game with USC — and Notre Dame also will move its other sports (men’s hockey already competes in the Big Ten) under the league umbrella in due time. Notre Dame also will join the Big Ten’s bowl package.

Yeah, Dochterman covers Iowa and the Big Ten for them and has for a long time. I would presume he has pretty good sources around the conference.

A six-game package with the Big Ten would be so much preferable to our deal with the ACC.
Especially if we keep the 10-year deal with Clemson (which is separate from the ACC deal) and the series with Stanford. That's eight P4 games.
Then you schedule one SEC team a year (or BYU if you can't). Maybe get a frequent rotation with ACC schools like BC, Syracuse and Pitt where'd sell a lot of tickets for them and you're at 10 P4s, plus Navy and one G5 tuneup.
Scheduling problems, solved.

This where I’m at too. Not really sure how you can claim independence if you’re contractually obligated to play 5 ACC (or Big 10 in this scenario) teams. And I don’t think that includes Stanford or the new Clemson deal.

Notre Dame is basically a full ACC member that isn’t getting conference money or conference CFP benefits.

Big Ten currently has protected games for some opponents. Anywhere from 1 - 3 games IIRC. I don’t see them letting us choose 4 games, and even 3 would be a question.

That'd be great but it would probably be hard to get more than one permanent opponent, which should be USC. Hopefully we could get Michigan and Sparty on some sort of more frequent rotation, at least.
But part of the fun of playing more Big Ten would be games against teams like Penn State, Iowa, Nebraska - places where people care about college football a lot more than most ACC schools - and it's a big conference, so you don't want to spread those too thin.

If it is just USC + 5 random B10 teams, I don't see how it is better than the ACC agreement.

Just like how the ACC agreement would be fine if every year was:
BC
Pitt
Miami
Stanford
Clemson/Florida State
Rotating game

The most important part is locking in the matchups against rivals and minimizing the number of games each year against random/ uninteresting/bad teams (NC State, Virginia, Wake Forest, Duke, Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois, etc.)

Since TV networks are the real decision makers in the sport, you would have to think NBC would be pushing for this as well. Their Saturday night games are often terrible. Adding ND as a potential night time visiting opponent for teams like Minnesota would probably juice their numbers.

But that's because the ACC is going to collapse anyways. Don't ever see an Ohio State or Michigan, or Alabama/Georgia getting the same deal from B1G/SEC

Correct. People forget 2020 but it was pretty darn nice to not be beholden to the B1G that year as well. Also take a look at USC and Michigan being publicly pressured to enter into a private equity deal they don't want to anything to do with.

Flexibility is worth a lot when shit hits the fan. ND always has a "join conference in case of emergency" button they can press, but once they do they lose a lot of that flexibility.

Bevilacqua has to be working on something, it’s been almost too quiet on that front since he went at the ACC publicly. Don’t think he’s a dumb guy and understands the optics of that were bad with zero future action.
