Lol Driskell has zero sources.

His reporting method breaks down to two operations:

1. Have zero info about anything, wait for a reporter with legit sources to report something concrete, then write an article saying “I heard the same name, now let me recap the guy’s Wikipedia page and ESPN stats page so it looks like I did some leg work even though I didn’t.”

2. Have zero info about anything, wait for SI readers to message him info they read on other sites, wait an hour, then write an article about what “sources” told him, “sources” being the very readers that just asked him about specific info from other sites.

He must not have a general CFB editor looking over his shoulder, because it takes zero effort to see that Driskell is doing what every slacker in high school does... paraphrasing somebody else’s shit at the last minute, then trying to add “substance” to make it seem different. Except for Driskell, “substance” is whatever generic info he finds on google, since he has no sources and no way to actually get in touch with the people he writes about.

You’re probably right. He is in way over his head as an analyst trying to also be a journalist of which I don’t think he has any real training/education in.

24 year ago Mike Frank was in the mortgage business in Nebraska. He made a career change for the better.

If SI would hire him an actual reporter that could make nice with the staff, they’d have a nice little deal going. Coach D really does offer decent film study and analysis.

But I’d bet Maven is pressing him to try and steal clicks on actual news. It’s probably putting too much on his plate, especially since he has no sources in the program, and since he doesn’t attend (get cleared?) press conferences and other media availability opportunities.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but Jac Collinsworth is joining NBC and will have some hand in the ND football broadcasts.

Is this true? Why would ND not provide SI a press pass. Or has Driskell burnt all his bridges and personally can't get access?

My feelings exactly. After the completely unprofessional and bush league crap she pulled a couple years ago I am 0.0% upset about her being unemployed when so many other talented journalists have lost jobs in recent years.

surprized how many of the ND beat guys reached out to her on twitter to offer condolences. my impression always was that she wasn't very popular.

Anyone know who this Brian Smith from Irish Breakdown is? Working with Driskell. Seems pretty high on himself and that he "knows guys personally" ect. Maybe he really does, IDK...

I have been told, and I am only repeating this because my source seems to be pretty reliable, that Brian Smith is banned from the ND campus for bothering football players.

Not surprising. They hired Driskel. The bar is pretty low over their. I refuse to read anything they produce. Feel even better about that decision now.

For a while I was not a fan of Sampson, Tim O and Prister, but I have come full circle on those guys. I don't mind Eric Hanson either. At least their pod casts. Good reporting, conversation and WAY less arrogance.

I've always been a fan of that podcast. They seem to enjoy talking with each other, keep the cringey radio personality thing to a minimum, and say a lot without saying it that usually gives a good insider POV.

I'm sure Brees will be fine and I do like him, but NBC is sticking yet another former player from a rival school on the broadcast
