I forgot about the ISD Pod, reps. It is usually pretty good, especially when Jamie U is on. Mike Frank is hard to listen to sometimes, always seems (to me) that he is crying about something, but the other guys are pretty damn good. To Frank's credit, he seems to have more of a moderator role and stirs up the conversation.

All of this, especially the part about Mike. If he's not complaining, the sky is falling about something lol

I’ve been listening to Mike Frank’s podcast for nearly a decade, but oh my God did you nail him spot-on. I love Mike and his show, but I was listening to today’s episode and it really struck me how pessimistic he is about everything.

He’s currently on the kick that ND not bringing its players back to campus already is going to cost the team during the season. But even if it doesn’t cost the team, Mike’s got 15 more serious concerns about the program that will cost them dearly. I don’t think he has it out for Kelly or anyone at ND, though, I think this is just how he’s wired. If Dabo or Ryan Day or Saban were the coach, he’d still be convinced the under seasoned chicken they serve the players is going to cost them at least a few games.

I like Jamie on ISD a lot. I value his opinion and insight.

I listen to The Shamrock because I like Sampson, but I cannot stand Fortuna. Guys like him go out of their way to be a shit about every part of the program, even when it isn't deserved. I understand a lot of the negative criticism of ND and why it would turn people off, and so much of the fan base is dumb as hell, but that dude loooves making bank on that.

"I just don't think Cole Kemt developed at tight end, Chip Long did a very poor job of coaching the TE's" 10 mins latter "Your thoughts"

Frank isn't all that bad, I think it is the whole cry baby, sky is falling tone in his voice that irks me. I would be lying if I said I didn't listen to 9/10 pods though. I really do enjoy them as a whole. Jamie might be one of the best in the business of breaking things down. The best part about him is that he can be VERY critical about things, but isn't a giant DOUCHE NOZZEL like you know who.

Because they are playing against minor league semi pro teams who can develop the talent because that is their sole purpose.. Notre's Dame purpose is to get them a quality education and give the studs a chance to go pro while playing a collegian game. There is a huge difference between solely preparing someone for the NFL and preparing someone for the next 40 yrs of their life. Dont change a *^&#@!^ thing. Go Irish!!

They've been close to knocking down that door. 2012 NC appearance, 2014 @. FSU, 2015 @. Clemson, 2018 CFP berth, 2019 @ UGA.

I think it comes down to experience. Most of these aforementioned teams have been there before, and know how to close and make the big play or stop in crunch time.

They are on the cusp. Book is an experienced enough QB to make it happen if we are close against Clemson in the 4th, and I think Lea and this defense are poised for another extremely strong defense to keep them in most games.

Depends on if the season is Spring or Fall. Half joking. Though seeing places like Clemson, Ohio State etc. scramble as kids protect their draft rights would be wild.

There were lots of rumors that keyshawn was getting his west coast radio show moved national to the morning. Also, Greenburg may be getting an afternoon radio spot that cuts an hour from LeBatard.

EDIT: looks like all of the above were announced. Kellerman is back on the air as well. Wingo no longer on radio, sounds like his time at ESPN might be coming to an end as well.

Corey Robinson has a gig, so to speak. "Head Counselor" on a kids sports "camp" on NBCSN. Think its a series, the soccer "camp was on last night 6-7 PM.

Ya gotta start somewhere. He was pretty good I thought. Will have to adjust some if he ever gets a gig that caters to adults, however.

Ouch! Another opportunity to skip over the old guys? I haven't listened but I hope they will not be ignored.

One wonders how one should rate the "Greatness" of the receiver who invented the forward pass (Dorais-to-Rockne)?

One wonders how one should rate the greatness of a receiver in the Run-Run-Run game pre-football-on-skates that we have now? Leon Hart was so much of a problem that most thought he was unable to be defended against.

Just after my era, there was Jack Snow --- sort of an earlier Will Fuller bomb threat, again in a run-football game. Tim Brown should, and probably will, be on there, but it's surprising about how few times guys like that were thrown to compared to WRs of the later game.

"Receivers" include TEs. Eifert? Almost unstoppable.

These "ratings" can be fun, and hopefully will be lightly discussed by all, but the raw numbers of the modern game threaten to make odd comparisons, like saying that Tommy Rees (who had VERY good stats), was a better QB than Paul Hornung or Joe Montana. (yes, an extreme example for the sake of the point.)

You might be disappointed then. The oldest receiver I remember watching live is Arnez Battle. So, if they played before 2002, they did not make my top 5. I understand that guys like Tim Brown and The Rocket are all-time greats. But I can’t bring myself to put someone in my top 5 if I never got to see them play live.

No, tight ends we’re not part of this group. Notre Dame has had so many good tight ends that they could have their own top 5.

I know what you mean. lol

No doubt. So many great WR that went unnoticed b/c of the run heavy era. Jack Snow put Ara’s offense on the map along w/ Heisman winner QB Huarte. Snow had a nice NFL career & his son, JT, was a long-time MLB player.

Seymour & Thom Gatewood should never go unmentioned. I believe injuries prevented both of them from NFL careers.

As OMM mentioned Leon Hart was impossible to cover and people forget he was a TE/DE who won a Heisman Trophy. I know the list was reserved for WR but TE Ken MacAfee was a popular target for Joe Montana. MacAfee was a Heisman finalist. He played two years in the NFL w/ the 49ers before quitting to go back to school to become an Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon. It was a different era indeed.

Here is our interview with former Notre Dame tight end Irv Smith. We talk about his playing days in college and in the pros, what he thinks about the projection of the program, and his son's recruitment/pro career. This was a very fun and kind of an eye opening interview.
