ND's Current Class Ranking

Just outside a consensus top 5 class...

I would have been thrilled to know at the start of the season.

Now, I'll feel empty if we don't knot up #1.

Expectations: get some.

Nah we're consensus... just somehow #6 when 247 aggregates things. Pretty sweet.

Speaking about USC, I have no concern as long as we get ours. Look at Kiffin's class from a couple years ago with Dillon Baxter and all of those 5 stars... I think all but one of them aren't even on the team anymore. The guy can't coach and recruits through pressure tactics... on top of that, the kind of kids he lands (for the most part) tend to have huge egos and poor work ethic... if not straight up character flaws.

In our hearts I think we all know who has the #1 recruiting class coming in regardless of these "rankings". Just look at this class ND has coming in, its ****ing beautiful

How does the composite work? It seems like it would just be an average of the four sites. If so, how does our 5,3,4 and 4 average out to 6?

Long story short (because im on my phone in an airport) they aggregate individual player rankings by site and then take those new rankings and apply the 247 formula to them. So oddities within individual player rankings hurt some of our top guys and the 247bears really empasizes your top brow players over "depth"

Scouts rankings f things up. Scout having Michigan #1 brings them above ND in the composite. Somehow scout manage to have A&M and Georgia 2 and 3 when every other service has A&M at 7 and Georgia at 9 or 10?

Is it just me, or are the ranking systems entirely backwards. My view is that the propect scoring system should be like golf. The lower the points the better.

If a college picks up the number 1 prospect to his position, he is a 1 pointer.....the number 38 prospect, 38 points. You simply aggregate the points.

Remember what Scott Daly did for the ND recruiting results last year, but he was the number 1 long snapper in the country according to most of the services. Punters and kickers cause the same issue.

There are two downsides to such a ranking system: 1) if the team's position of need, and recruiting emphasis, is nationally a position of relative weakness, a team will not be adversely affected in the rankings. Each service could create a position strength index to offset this issue (by way of example, line backs are very strong and are highest on the index, while WR are relatively weak and much lower on the index); and 2) class sizes skews the result. It the exactly issue as today, but the opposite direction. Small classes would get an artifical benefit. The simple fix would be to simply average the classes as say 21 incoming freshmen. All schools would be judged on equal footing.

First things first, we have a NC to win and a #1 ranking to finish the year with. Aftrer that, the recruiting class ranking will take care of itself.

Agreed, Scout's entire order is an outlier...

IF we pick up the 3 we thing we're picking up, we'll likely move up to 1 or 2 in Scout. Not worried anyway...

To get #1 ND would probably have to get Vanderdoes along with those other 3. Even then Bama might get #1. Didn't think they'd get Foster yesterday.

Well Mich, Georgia and TAMU also have fairly big classes as well. I guess Scout just places a greater premium on the quantity of athletes (as opposed to their quality) than the other ranking sites do.

With Scout, you get rougly 200 + or - for a 4 star. A little more with Rivals. We'd move to first in both with AQM, TF, and MR assuming the teams in front of us didn't pick up anymore.

Wasn't sure where to put this, or if it has already been posted. It's an ESPN clip profiling who they consider to be the nine best recruiters in the country. Alford is #3 on the list. Not sure how to embed videos straight from ESPN's site...

RecruitingNation: Recruiting Dream Team - ESPN Video - ESPN

Thanks for the clip. At the start of the segment they mentioned that this was a list of 9 excellent recruiters but said there was no effort to rank them from 1 to 9. So even though Alford was the third assistant they discussed, they weren't necessarily ranking him as the third best. He could've been number 1 or number 9 or anywhere in between.

But isn't that the reason behind this thread is to discuss recruiting, while the thread "Jan 7 | BCS National Championship | Alabama " is there to discuss winning the NC and possibly our ranking.

Boredom is flowing over us all, nothing wrong with a little recruiting chatter, even if there isn't any updated info out there.

Some people on these forums like to think we fans have to focus on the next game for the team to do well. I agree with you, this is a forum, we can talk about anything ND related and it will not effect the team's performance.

Adding Tarean Folston solidifies #NotreDame's spot at No. 2 in the @Rivals team rankings. Irish trail Alabama by 34 points for top spot.

Can someone explain why we have the same number of recruits, a higher average score, and a lower total score than Bama per rivals?

think rivals only factors in your top recruits into the average score...could be wrong

They factor in only the top 20. Folston and Redfield would both be in the Rivals 20 top, thus factoring into our score.

Thanks for explaining. Weird system, but useful when each school is recruiting different numbers of players.
