As much as I dislike Urban, wouldn't mind seeing a bit of the Woody Hayes treatment from him: if a recruit doesn't like tOSU as much, and Urban knows they are considering Michigan and ND, steer the young man to ND.

Long shot, and probably 0.001% chance with recruiting these days, but if Urban hates Michigan as much as he shows publicly, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Or am I giving Urban too much credit?

EDIT: Also, I realize he hijacked two coaches and a recruit last year, just speculating...

Jake Brown‏@Jake_Brown

Greg Bryant will be one of seven #NotreDame commitments playing in the U.S. @ArmyAllAmerican Bowl on Jan. 5. That'll be a fun week.

Recruiting class is taking a major leap! This is how to win the NCG beyond year 3.

According to Scout we are #2. Close behind us is T A&M w 33 commits. Last year they had 20, year before 23 and prior to that 22. 33+20+23+22 = 98. Welcome to the $EC. Good thing they stopped oversigning in that conference. How the F can 33 be justified in a single class?

In May 2009, the SEC passed a rule restricting its football teams to accepting no more than 28 National Letters of Intent each year.[18] This move was widely viewed as a direct response to the University of Mississippi and its head coach, Houston Nutt, having promised 37 scholarships to new recruits for the 2009 season. Thus the rule is now commonly referred to as "The Houston Nutt Rule."[14][19]

On April 15, 2008, Saban was asked by reporter Ian Rapoport how he was going to handle the numbers and when does he you start to worry about it? Saban replied "I'm not worried about them. It'll all work out. I mean, the whole thing has a solution to every issue. You don't put yourself in a position where you don't know what's coming." Rapoport respond, "So you're not going to tell us?" to which Saban replied "We know how it has to be managed, and it will be managed. It's none of your business. Aiight? And don't give me this stuff about the fans' need to know, because they don't need to know. Don't even ask. Aiight?"[26]

[edit] 2011

In early 2011, after National Signing Day, Saban and the University of Alabama again became the subjects of heavy media criticism after they again appeared to have oversigned. When asked about the appearance of being oversigned during his Signing Day press conference, Saban gave a 431-word response[27] in which he denied being oversigned but refused to clarify the situation by explaining how many scholarship players departed the program after the 2010 season.[28] Further raising questions about Saban and Alabama, Birmingham News journalist Kevin Scarbinsky revealed a few days after Saban's press conference that in numerous requests by the newspaper for the scholarship numbers of public universities in Alabama, the University of Alabama has been the only one to completely redact the numbers for every sport in which it participates.[

I can't find any rule change to the maxof 28 signees a class with an 85 total limit (in fact it may have even changed to 25 per class).. But they blatantly disregard and work around it.

Grayshirting is also quite common and mind-boggling to me why a kid would put themselves in that situation.

Dooley's response to the whole thing was hysterical... Derek Dooley blasts SEC’s new over-signing rules | AJC College Sports Recruiting

It's "taken care of" by the medical staffs dishing out medical scholly's to kids the coaches "claim" failed physicals or a no mercy approach to violations of team rules (especially for 3rd/4th string players with 5* recruits waiting..) they find ways to get to a DEEP and TALENTED 85.. not a normal 85 man roster.

Kids do that because of the $$$$$$$. JK, but seriously that is the only explanation I can come up with.

Yea, I'm sure that is the case sometimes.. MODS, if you want to move it, we can take this conversation to the oversigning thread.. I know it's out there somewhere.

ND currently trails USC by 33 total points. Bama by 35. A lot can happen with late commits with all teams so wait and see. Either way just a ranking, ND's class is sick.

Yes. Yes it is. And that's why I'm not too concerned with rankings. I still think we end top 3 across all services, but with kids like Deeb, Onwualu, and Corey stuck at 3 :s: on most services, we won't gain that extra ground. We all know the kind of talent they possess and their incredible ceilings, but that won't show through in the class rankings.

I don't care too much either way though. No need to whip it out and measure.

Everyone is talking about how amazing USC's class is, which it is. I'm not sold on Kiffin's player development, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Weis 2.0

Class rankings are set at the present skill of the player. So his player development has nothing to do with the recruiting class.

But I'm with you, his player development is awful. Not only that, but just the way he runs the team and program does not make for a successful college team.
