I find it sad that Notre Dame Stadium was louder when it seated 60,000 than it is now with 80,000.

Hopefully the atmosphere changes on 10/22.

How was the crowd noise yesterday?

:)

Burn him.

Interesting how a picture of Red Sox fans can spark a backlash at ND fans.

I would rather go with white towels.

BTW: You better be swinging like Ruth to get a towel to make the noise a thunderstick (thunderstix) makes when slapped together. You'll need to break the sound barrier.

i was going to say... looks a lot like seats at fenway

Never said it was ND... Dude asked what the atmosphere was like at nd during the game. I googled man sleeping in the stands and..... There he is. It wasn't meant to represent ND. Anyone with half a brain knows that nd's seats (outside of the Gold Seats) don't have backs. Didn't realize it was going to be a problem. I was going more with the idea that it was a snooze-fest, but you boys have fun.

haha well either way i have to agree with you, its quite pathetic. however, i think that the amount of "old" people in the stadium is only part of the problem. if you go to other college stadiums, or even nfl stadiums, they become loud due music played over the speakers, when the big video-screens get the crowed pumped up, etc. i'm not saying we should get a video-screen, and i realize that is a completely different issue, but its not just the older generations fault. but its certainly a problem

Per your request, HCTI, here is a new thread. However, do NOT get into personal attacks with each other. No need. I deleted both of your posts.

On topic, i can see both sides. Watching on TV, there are times when the games seem like a library. Maddening. But i go to one game a year, always a rivalry, and the crowd for THOSE games are always amped. i've never been told to sit down (if I was told to sit down I'd probably stand on my chair just to **** them off even further), but I know many fans that have, and that's just b.s. Our section is always lively, which is great.

ND stadium is nothing like stadiums in the South, expect for big games, when I've seen the crowd get really loud. That's when the games are the most fun for true fans. Truth is...old alumni (from old schools like ND and Michigan) = quieter crowds. But for games against Western Michigan and Tulsa and teams like that, it sure doesn sound pathetically quiet on TV (and those super long NBC timeouts REALLY hurt the crowd noise).

Oh, and at least we're not the worst. 've been to plenty of SC and UCLA games, and those games are far quieter than ND games and never as consistently packed.
Facts are facts and Notre Dame Stadium does have its older crowd. With that said just cheer your @$$#% off and ignore them. If I were ask to sit down I'd just ignore until an usher was called. I have my rights too. Of course its not like an SEC arena-we know that but it can be loud-so do it!!!!! I'm 59 yrs old and when I get my hands on tickets nobody is going to spoil my day at the shrine.

Its is actually pretty loud at nd on the field. The higher you sit in the stands though is does sound like a library at times. The biggest thing I think is all the breaks for tv timeouts are long as hell and it is boring in between them. This is where they need the video boards or other music besides the band. Band music gets boring after awhile. No other stadiums rely on it like ND does. May have worked in the past.

Please remember, its a known fact that Notre Dame fans go gray or bald faster than any other teams. After this last decade, some of those poor people in the stands may only be in their 30's.

Could be the old people were kids in the Joe Kuharich era. Never learned to cheer because there was nothing to cheer about. Like child abuse, it's always with them.

As a fan and as a grad, I take some exception to your comment. I'm 59, for the nonce. I am not bald, though I've always had a "prominent forehead" – since the day I was born. Granted, it has regressed over the years, but I still have hair that is comb-able without needing to be "comb-over-able." There is gray (maybe even white) but it tends to blend in with the blonde.

Stress, be it from being a Notre Dame fan or a President of the US – look at pre and post photos of recent C-I-C's – can take its toll.

My real hope is that Brian Kelly and our Irish Big Boyos will not precipitate my tearing my remaining (and precious) hair out from the roots.

The section I sit in has a small number of older people in it to be honest... I sit in 107 which is in the new addition on the north side 10 yd line opposite the press box. I've been going to almost all the home games since 2007 and there are certainly games when the crowd is underwhelming but there are other games I've been to that are pretty exciting.

There are a number of reasons why I think crowd noise suffers but I'm not going to get into them again. I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up yet but what about the fact that ND is a significantly smaller university with fewer students than many of the other "big time" universities. Put that together with the other issues and I think that covers a lot of the atmosphere problems.

I do think the night game is going to help and my brother, cousins and myself will be screaming and jumping around as usual. Hopefully the rest of our section will join in, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.

Let me just add that there are many people on this site who are passionate, loud, 'older' ND fans, who are not 'sit down in front!' type of fans at all, and they take offense to the many really rude comments that are made towards the 'older' crowd. I've had to delete/edit a couple of posts that have ripped our older fans. Rip the fans who are dull and demand people to sit all you want, but easy on the generalizations please, out of respect for our 'older' fans. My buddy and I were told to sit down at the USF game, by a man in his 30's. I agree that they tend to be older fans, but to call them all blue hairs and diapers and such is too far...

Dropkick Murphys is exactly what needs to be pumped in. The older generations would hate it, but if played in moderation and done with some class, their music is a great way to get you pumped up and keep the stadium rockin.

Hell, someone should just book these guys for the USC pep rally.
