Sharpley's views on Clausen off the field aren't unique. Read what I wrote in the Dayne Crist thread... 95% of people who ran in those circles feel the same way Sharpley does.

Basically the article says he and Clausen weren't close and that Clausen needed to mature, which he finally did. They weren't close off the field by any means but that they basically had a working relationship.

On Weis he basically felt like he never got a shot to be the starter even though he (Sharpley) felt like he did everything he could do to win the starters spot. He almost left after 2007 because he knew he wasn't going to play. But overall he enjoyed his experience and is interested in helping out Coach Kelly, who recruited him out of high school, in anyway he could.

He says Notre Dame practiced a "West Virginia type" spread the entire 2007 offseason with Demetrius Jones and then abandoned it after game one.

Please don't remind me

Please don't remind me

of 2007. There has never been a worse coaching performance in the history of college football than the job Weis did in 2007.

It would be interesting to read the rest of the article paticularly for the Clausen part of it. Sharpley did good as a back up at ND, especially being behind Quinn and Clausen. To be honest if Clausen had to do his recruiting all over again I wonder if he would choose ND. The way he came here never really bothered me (announcing at the hall of fame) and I always said that if he won more games people could've cared less what he did off the field.

...and someone on here asked me why I felt Charlie's signature shouldn't be on a picture autographed by other Irish legends and sold as "Irish Legends." o.0

Another thing that gets left out a lot but is very important is that Charlie never played football. He had a lot of trouble commanding respect and building relationships with his players because he had never been there. I've had more than a couple people tell me how much they liked coach XYZ (especially Corwin Brown) but couldn't stand Weis because all he did was yell and had never been in their shoes.

Just some food for thought.

Article does not seem too intriguing to me. Nothing out of the ordinary until you mention the abandonment of the spread after HALFTIME of the GT game. They benched Jones. I spoke at length about this with some fellow fans and mentioned that this was a massive red flag on CW. We all remember the hell that broke loose that season.

Most likely you are right. As for Sharpley, I wish him the best. He did the best he could in a sucky situation, and never publicly complained.

I was at that game. There was NO WAY Weis could have even thought about putting Jones back in, after halftime. The offense, in general, and Jones, in particular, looked like a bunch of Cub Scouts playing a pickup game with the Monsters of the Midway!

That was a terrible, dark day for Irish football.

When Evan Sharpley came in, he actually got some okay blocking and enough time to stand in the pocket and throw for 90 yards or so in the quarter and a half of time he was allowed to play. He did have a bad overthrow of David Grimes, who was open on a go route.

There is no way an offensive line like that (with the highly rated recruits and all) could be so bad. Sullivan must have had 10 bad snaps that year.

But by far the worst day I've ever experienced as a fan would be the 2006 Michigan game. We came expecting to beat the crap out of them. That day sucked. Quinn got pummeled.

I know. We have bantered about it before. Whether you were at the game or had the benefit of replay, we all witnessed the chaos.

Rather than re-banter, I'll just say that entering the season when I heard about the QB question mark and CW's choice to try a new offense, I thought, "Uh Oh." When ND abandoned the new offense (that they had worked on for so long) by halftime, and embarrassed the starting QB on National TV, I thought, "Uh Oh."

Red Flags flighing high.

Can't blame CW for trying. I guess.
