I took it to mean they are prepared to offer it to whoever the coach will be as part of the deal.

It’s just a rumor but would be a great sign.

I still can’t believe how mercenary this all was,… top class incoming, program rolling, decent chance at a playoff spot… just wow.

I guess this really shows that BK did not believe this team could win two more games… I can’t wrap my mind around this if he thought there was any legit chance at all

I mean, who hear really thinks that ND could beat the like of UGA/Mich in back to back weeks when our best win is Purdue? Wisconsin? I think this team way overperformed and had a light schedule to help it. I don't think they could realistically win a title.

That said, BK has always been about BK. Was it money / boredom after 12 years / fear of having a backslide in SB / not feeling "loved" ? Who knows. But I think in the end, BK will be a Mark Richt type for LSU. They will be top 15 good, might even have a top 5 year. But there will be a hump that he will never get over. At that point, the legacy of BK will be stamped across for all to see...he was college footballs John Cooper in results, while thinking he was Bud Wilkinson.

Haven’t seen it as going through but the $80 million Gug renovation has been mentioned as on the table before, question exists why, or maybe if, it’s still sitting there

Think of it this way...especially in college where not all athletes are created equal or close to it like they are once they reach the professional level....it is much more common and realistic for incredible athletes and top end recruits to make an average coach look great than it is for a top end coach to make average recruits look great. If you put Saban in charge at SMU right now, and Franklin in charge at Alabama, who wins that game....9 times of out 10 its still Bama.

, like many others, truly believe Freeman is an absolutely superstar in the making, but recruiting is the lifeline of every college football team with championship aspirations, and while some may be unsure about his ability to to manage a program like ND at this moment in time, NOBODY doubts he would immediately improve the quality of recruits we are signing year in and year out and demand the same recruiting effort from his assistants. Even if if took him 2-3 years to work out some of the kinks and that meant a couple 9-3 seasons along the way, imagine what the talent level on this team looks like 3 years down the road. Look at what he has done in 12 months here already.

I think most of us view this as such: Yes there is some risk and the floor might be a little lower, but the ceiling has no limits and I for one dont want to see him killing it on someone elses sidelines 3 years from now with a roster littered with 4 and 5 star recruits. If he truly becomes the star many feel he will, the guy is 35 years old. Lock him up now and start building a dynasty.

The absolute WORST case scenario for a coach that can recruit, but is an idiot otherwise is Mark Richt at Georgia.

Hire Watt and bring back Hiestand in the Online equivalent of Kerry Cooks.

Especially this. He can probably take Del too. Like if I were Swarbrick, I would have somehow tried to make that a condition of him leaving. "Brian, we'll waive your buyout if you simply take Quinn with you."

in the moment I want Freeman NOW… but putting down the bons bons for a moment idk man. Who do we honestly think can put this thing together well enough to play with tOSU next year and go beyond that positively??? Freeman is such a wildcard that I think we are all projecting his unknowns in the greatest possible light

Wouldn't be the first time a new head coach with no head coaching experience was thrust into an early season matchup in Columbus and came away with a convincing upset.

Yea, but it could be difficult to weed out what should or should not be posted in said thread. Also would require some dedication by a poster to handle the thread. I'm good with it if someone wants to take the honors.

As what though, OC? I think Kelly inherited Faulk as RB coach. So not sure of these reports, or Kelly offered him a lesser job? Not sure why Alford would leave OSU, unless it was a big promotion and raise, but I find it hard to believe he was offered that.

Give Freeman the same salary that Kelly is getting at LSU, plus a dollar. Then give him all he needs and say something along the lines of “I know this seemed to come out of nowhere, but Coach Kelly saved us from an uncomfortable conversation about not being able to get to the next level. We believe we’ll get there now.”

If it’s Freeman then we should hear reliable source stuff very soon, by tomorrow night at the latest… if we get to the end of the week and nothing has happened then yeah,… it’s Fickell and they are waiting for UC to end their season.

listening to the II pod cast from this morning… and they all agree it will prob be Freeman but if it’s not he’s gone soon to LSU

Very rarely do you get the best of both worlds - the great recruiter and great X's and O's coach. Give me the great recruiter every day of the week and twice on Sunday. It's about the players. Kirby Smart isn't the greatest X's and O's coach and he has been banging down the door of the Natty/CFP for 4 of the last 5 years and he might even win it this year. The hope is Freeman is the ND version of Kirby Smart.

The hope is Freeman is the ND version of Kirby Smart.

Kirby is absolutely an elite X's & O's guy.

Those are the threads. I realize they have separate purposes, but a lot of what’s being posted is duplicated or similar. No biggie. I can live with it.
