I know I'm setting myself up for a letdown... and its a weird sentiment to have right now (one of the steps of the grieving process?)

But the prospect of Freeman as HC and keeping key staff has me more wildly optimistic than I've been in a long time as an ND fan.

The team seems striaght up rallied together. Recruiting would go through the roof. And they would run through the walls of the stadium to play whoevers in front of them come playoff/bowl time.

Future is now come on!

Correct. Since Rees has been eliminated as a candidate, the job is Freeman's. Like you pointed out, an external hire would bring his own staff/coaches.

This is similar to the nationwide search for the OC position. I hope I am wrong but I think the decision has been made. The question is when they will announce Freeman as HC.

Why not ask Freeman to become the interim coach? My guess is that Freeman was offered interim and he declined. Freeman is negotiating to become the head coach. A coach with Freeman's resume "negotiating" would be absurd, but Kelly's shocking departure has given Freeman PR leverage. The admin has been caught off guard and have no leverage. Now you have players and delusional fans pushing for him on social media. It really blows my mind. He has NO head coach experience and little coordinator experience. He is not going to out recruit the semi pro teams; and due to his inexperience, he lacks the ability to out scheme or out gameplan the big boys. Promoting him will be disaster.

The man has done nothing but improved every team he has coached... Not sure how that could be a disaster in addition to his ability to recruit... Hasn't been there 1 year and has everyone and their mom tweeting for him to be the next coach... He's got it

If it is Freeman what the hell is Jack waiting for?

Still need a deal. Freeman may want the same things Kelly did like a commitment to invest in facilities, private travel to recruit, etc.

Honestly any coach is going to want that stuff it’s not even lofty aspirations. It’s just industry standard at this point.

Marcus Freeman:
2016: Co-DC @ Purdue
2017 - 2020: DC @ UC
2021: DC @ ND

Lincoln Riley
2010 - 2014: OC @ ECU (1 as AHC)
2015 - 2016: OC @ OU

Ryan Day
2017: Co-OC @ OSU
2018 : OC/Acting HC @ OSU

Dabo Swinney
2007 - 2008: AHC @ Clemson
2009: OC/Interim HC @ Clemson

Riley and Day had plenty of experience so your comparison is not valid. Dabo is the only coach that can be comparable, so you and the others think Freeman is the next Dabo. I think that is delusional, but I think we will find out soon.

Plot twist: BK took his ball and went home early because everyone was gushing over Freeman, and he knew his days were numbered

True - but he could have been a little more diplomatic about how he left. At least stay the fuck for the last game with the gents you've been with all year and has looked up to you as not only a coach but the 'leader' of the Irish FB Team.....

Apparently there is a fan on the Ohio state site claiming that Freeman will be the next DC there.

It’s legit. I don’t know which one concerns me more, the Norman flight or the Columbus one

Interesting takeaway from a list of timelines without comment. Not sure it conveys I as the delusional one

Why? Why do we care if he stays the last game? This logic makes no sense to me. I don't care at all that he left before a bowl or playoff. I'm pissed he left in the middle of the night. He was on legend status and basically doused 12 years with gasoline and lit it up without telling anyone that he just burnt the house down.

You want to leave? Fine I get it. You might actually have legitimate gripes. But you want to do it dirty like that? I'm surprised anyone showed up to that meeting.

I absolutely believe his ego was this fragile. He will never have the charisma of Freeman. Freeman as a person is genuinely likable. Kelly has the respect of a lot of wins and a lot of money, but has the personality of a wet paper towel.

The Illuminati are controlling all of this. Brian Kelly is still the head coach of nd football and this is a ploy to bring out the sec scum that is intertwined into the ncaa. Hes actively controlling the program behind closed doors with protection from the fucking old guard from this website. We will make the playoffs and be crowned champions and BK will become the Phoenix of this great sport. The people that recently took over this site are part of the cabal that intend to break our lady and spiral us into joining a conference. Trust the plan. Lee corso is Q.

I told you all that if you don't make a move with Freeman, he will got to Columbus. The only way he stays is as HC IMO and he won't wait around. I wouldn't if I were him.

Understand your frustration - but we are fans... not players, students, sweating in the summer, in the weight-room, following the rules/guidelines of the coach, studying until midnight and getting up at 5am for training then school then practice.... again - I understand your frustration but this is not about IE or us..... it's about those kids/gents/young adults playing for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

The Norman flight is a Piper Turbo which is basically a hobby pilot plane that nobody would use for contract negotiations. The Columbus flight, though, is a Beechcraft Super King and is definitely the charter-a-private-flight kind of plane.

Simple, we're just going to pick up Bedenbaugh and Hartline :thewave:

Dug a little deeper, and the Columbus flight EDIT: It’s a WheelsUp plane, it originated in DC, was in SBN for 30 minutes, and went on to Columbus

The Norman plane is owned by a cattle company so not as worried there

And there isn’t a fan of Ohio State that is smart enough to drop the extra ‘e’ from their dumbass program. Fuck them.

I was a player, albeit not at ND lol, obviously coaches come and go. Sure it has an impact but at the end of the day I'm going out to play. I don't want to deal with the huge elephant in the room every day for the next month+ either. They are 18-22 yr old men. They got enough shit to worry about

I saw the same thing with Tom Allen supposedly flying to Auburn a few hours before Bryan Hardin was announced. Grain of salt…

The flight to Columbus is registered to Wheels Up.

These rumors don’t really matter. Freeman will be NDs coach, Cincinnati’s coach, or a DC somewhere else. He’s not staying at ND to be a DC regardless.
