2) Where did this myth that we faltered so much against Navy come from? We rushed for 147 yards at 5.07 per carry in a ridiculously shortened game. Our run success rate was 53.5% not great but plenty fine. We ran the ball on third and short four times and picked up first downs every time.

I never said that we "faltered so much". I said that I was at the game, on the 50 yard line, and I saw our offensive line struggling to push Navy's front 7 back, often.

I don't have data for Stanford/Duke, but we had one 20+ yard run between Navy/MSU.

for a box differential of 0 for navy/msu (even numbers) we had 5 yards per carry
for a box differential of 1 for navy/msy (one more defender) we had 10.6 yards per carry.

So... I don't have data for the other games (yet tm) but two of the games its not really true at all.

Don't waste your time, Koon just literally makes stuff and choose not to read contradicting information. In multiple threads in the past few months information that directly contradicts his bullshit has been posted. Football Outsiders showed that we had the BEST offensive line in the entire country last year among power 5 teams. Looking at YPC, Adams & Prosise ran as well as any top tier power 5 RB. And on and on and on...

He doesn't care, he just wants attention.

actually I made a spreadsheet error (I used count instead of sum) I blame traveling most the day xD, so I take this back

so new numbers are

navy/msu even numbers 3 yards per carry
navy/msu +1 defender 4.7 yards per carry.

about navy
even numbers 3.9 yards per carry
+1 defender 5.3 yards per carry

for reference every nd run vs navy navy runs - Album on Imgur

So it wasn't that bad but still ridiculous? I don't understand what you're saying here.

If true, sure hope it doesn't cost us Ewell. We'll see, if it does, I don't like the move.

Me neither, it's not like any of these Wake assistants have some special track record. Continuity is important, definitely don't like the move if it costs us any recruits.

Lucci I totally get what you're saying, but if the development of our players for the better cost us one high level recruit I'll take it because right now our d linemen are not getting better

Gilmore is gone. I know players liked him. Not sure if he was the greatest coach. Has a good track record but our DL has played very poorly since he has been at Nd but I would say he didn't have a ton of talent but some talent indeed. Recruiting has been bad this cycle minus Ewell who I pray we don't lose. I'm thinking with Elko's LB guy coming along, Elston will be the new DL coach. I'm cool with that.

Fair points. I think Gilmore's personality is better suited for self-motivated football players like Sheldon Day that don't need a fire lit under them to maximize their potential. Unfortunately, NDs DL consists of more players wired like Rochell, Jarron Jones & Tillery. IMO, they need a tougher personality with more of a fiery attitude. Gilmore seems like a great "good cop" which would work well with a DC who was a red a$$....but I think ND DL need more of a "bad cop". Theyre too "soft"...doesn't mean they don't work hard or don't give their best effort.

I think Gilmore had some great individual development stories. Mercillus at Illinois, Kareem Martin at UNC and Romeo's improvement here. But as a unit, his productions have not been great and I think ND requires a DL coach that can light a fire under their butts, because our guys don't seem to have the ability to motivate themselves initially.

Per 247, Loy stated that he really doesn't think this firing of Gilmore won't effect any 17 or 18 recruits. Also stated if anyone WONT be affected it's the Ademilola twins and that they were very aware that Gilmore was a part of the problem on DL.

I know this statement is irrelevant to many, but it would be cool to see HH have control of both lines.

Interesting, football scoop says reports of Gilmore being fired aren't accurate.

I didn't think this was so hard to comprehend............

I have some questions about it. I sat at the 50 yard line and watched the OL struggle to open holes against NAVY. And it wasn't because smaller, quicker guys were shooting gaps on them; smaller guys were standing our players up and holding their ground against them. It was ridiculous. I'm not knowledgeable enough to say that Heistand is, or isn't, doing his job............ but I know a fair amount about football, and I have some questions about the OL.

Tell me about it! I think a while ago you posted the same stuff re Navy being small and I corrected you back then, too. You still posted it again today.

Were we really struggling to open holes against Navy? No, we weren't. So I'm not sure what questions you're looking to be answered.

Yes, we were. Not on every play, but I was at the game, watching the LOS almost all game, not just when the TV cameras were showing them. The O Line was getting almost NO push, and often got stood up and stuffed.

Anyone know if Booker got hired somewhere? He needed to go, but I hope he landed on his feet at another program.

I would like Gilmore to stay also, especially if it means we keep Ewell.

Don't you dare put Rochell in the same boat as Tillery and Jarron Jones. I love Jones and he can be unstoppable at times, IE Miami and F$U 2014, but we all know his motor runs hot and close. Rochell may not be a bad ass, but he has always worked his a** off. You should be ashamed questioning Rochell's effort.

I find what you wrote very difficult to read. Must be the language barrier since you know you speak Canadian eh.

If Gilmore is out that stinks we could lose players from this and next years class, most importantly Ewell.

Good news that the Ademilola twins won't be affected. But, I don't buy this. I don't see them telling Loy that they knew Gilmore was the problem. Doesn't make sense to me.

Interesting, football scoop says reports of Gilmore being fired aren't accurate.

Hope this is accurate.
