If the goal is to win games in the short term because Kelly is not long for this job then I don't care how well he recruits, I care how he helps win games. I don't see anything on his resume that shows that versus some other candidates we looked at. Maybe they didn't want the job, but I'm sure Quinn did and has the track record.
I'm not saying Chip Long can't be good I just don't understand how he fits with what we're purportedly trying to do next year.

Lax, what parts of Bogs post can you corroborate? You mentioned that some of it made sense and matched what you've heard, and other parts didn't jive. Which parts did sound spot on?

Yeah, I'm with Panda. I'm really excited about this move. Bloomgren doesn't even make sense. Him and BK are diametrically opposed in philosophy and not half the recruiter as Chip. I really like the moves we made this offseason. This guy utilizes TE's within an uptempo offense that BK hopefully won't mess with too much. But more than anything, im looking forward to what he brings to the table from a recruiting standpoint. He's an excellent recruiter and has never had a product as good as ND to sell.
What does Bloomgren bring that Long does not? I feel like you must just be rattled your clue fiasco was unsuccessful and unsubstantiated.
I agree that there is a style contrast, which is why I didn't necessarily believe that he'd get the job (but it was from an industry professional with a Stanford source saying he interviewed, so I take that at face value) and that it'd be a weird fit. One thing that made sense though -- as Bogs said today, GK said previously, and has kind of been discussed in lots of places for awhile -- is that if Kelly is truly a "lame duck" coach then it doesn't matter if there is a style clash. And on top of that, if the opposite was true and he was taking back over control of the offense and QB coaching (as has been reported many places) then bringing in a guy whose specialty is coordinating a run game makes a lot of sense.
Also, there is not really evidence that Bloomgren is a worse recruiter than Long. Look at the OL Stanford has signed since he has been there. And Stanford is selling a much more similar product than ASU.
But this is all a moot point.
FYI HIM AND ELKO BOTH GIVEN 3 YEAR CONTRACTS
Also, Memphis was 26th by FEI and 37th by S&P+ in offense this past year. That was 8th/11th among Group of Five teams. Not really that impressive, at all. In fact it's downright mediocre.
And that's his only data point.
Meh. Not who I thought they were going to hire, thought he was pretty far down the list. Had heard Bloomgren from Stanford. Not impressed. Also, sorry for wasting everyone's time![]()
This staff needed a shake up. It's put up or shut up time, I think Kelly realized that. While Denbrock brought a lot to the table, there's been too much misinformation and confusion as to who is calling the plays at the end of the day. If we see more of the same next year, it's obvious that Kelly can't let the reigns go...but I'm hoping we see a stronger/consistent running game next year, more utilization of our TE position, and take the pressure off our QBs a bit. Defensively we needed a shake up too, and I think Elko was the right direction for the program. Here's hoping we have a fresh product on the field next year.

I think this corroborates what I have heard. Kelly didn't hire him, and the long term goal isn't an immediate fix.
I think ND has a future new HC already locked in and I have shared it with a couple of you.
Think about it. Kelly has lost just about everyone on this sites confidence, do you think it is any different with the powers that be in South Bend?

Huge fan of this hire! If BK let's him run the offense completely, they're gonna look good next season.

damn boggs...where is the love...PANDA just sitting in the corner by himself![]()
I am telling you guys, Kelly didn't hire anyone. And Kelly isn't in charge of anything except winning games next year. None of this.
Also remember, Kelly had seven years to put together a cohesive staff; and this last go was an unbelievably incredible failure. In the history of failures and coaching staff, this nearly tops the list, from Uncle Rico, to Gilmore, to . . . well lets just say I am still livid about any recruit hearing any two coaches argue during a visit.
