I don't buy this for a minute. Kelly would have forced his own firing before being told what to do as far as staff hires.
ok, dammit! panda's on line 1..pick up
FYI HIM AND ELKO BOTH GIVEN 3 YEAR CONTRACTS
damn boggs...where is the love...PANDA just sitting in the corner by himself![]()
Don't kid yourself!
Kelly got behind the chains, so to speak.
Next year he is tasked with cleaning up his own mess. This year was his own mess.
What would you do if you were told to fix the problems you made, or you wouldn't be able to coach anywhere again?
Next thing someone will tell me that the people behind the ND program don't have that kind of clout.
I am calling bullshit. Kelly's agent would have this out in the air and making ND look bad and not his client.
My guess would be, this was done so the next HC would have some dynamic coordinators in which he could come in and not have to make a bunch of changes, and maybe be able to attract a big time coach.......just kinda spitballing here, though.
Dude, that was awesome use of time. I found it very entertaining and hope for more of this in the future with recruits etc. Maybe you can start one for a S&C Coach?
When you think about it, three years, with Kelly remaining at least one is two.
And if ND picks from the pool of up and coming mid major coaching talent, one of the new coaches coordinators may be that schools next hire to replace our new coach.
So if these hires are also up and comers, the new coach may want them for more than just continuity.
AND, finally, in three years, if Long and Elko are really good, (home run hires, best case scenario for ND) they may be ready to move on to a head job.
How long did it take Sanford to find a great first gig? Two years?
I think all of this comes together nicely to support what I have heard.
I think this corroborates what I have heard. Kelly didn't hire him, and the long term goal isn't an immediate fix.
Must say I don't entirely understand this theory. If Kelly didn't hire his new coordinators, who did? Swarbrick? And if the plan - such as it is - is a new coach by this time next year, won't a new coach want to hire his own coordinators? At least one of them?
I understand if the idea is that Kelly was told the staff needed some big changes. And I get how three-year contracts give the coordinators stability that may well outlast Kelly's. And I think it makes sense for BK to bring in high-quality assistants and shift to more of a CEO type role.
But he's still the head coach, and this plan doesn't work if he's not fully on board. He's going to work with these people every day. Maybe I'm mis-understanding, but the framing that control of the football program has been taken from him seems like it may exaggerate what's going on here.

I am telling you guys, Kelly didn't hire anyone. And Kelly isn't in charge of anything except winning games next year. None of this.
Also remember, Kelly had seven years to put together a cohesive staff; and this last go was an unbelievably incredible failure. In the history of failures and coaching staff, this nearly tops the list, from Uncle Rico, to Gilmore, to . . . well lets just say I am still livid about any recruit hearing any two coaches argue during a visit.
Watch Memphis Tigers football a lot. They run a Pro-Style offense. It is fast and fun to watch. I think last year, Fuentes had a lot to do with the success of the team before he left for VT.
I don't watch any Memphis football, but after a quick youtube search it's definitely not a "pro style" system. Every video I've found has them running a spread.
Google has a pretty good search engine you could use to find this out. Plus I did watch many of their full games.... not just a couple of plays on YouTube......

Memphis will not huddle, Long said. The quarterback will take snaps both under center and out of the shotgun, and have the freedom to audible out of a bad play at the line of scrimmage or shift his protection to pick up a blitz. The Tigers will also use two- and three-back sets in which backs can shift out wide to exploit mismatches
I think this is where the staff is currently:
1. DC = Elko
2. DL = Gilmore
3. LB = Elston
4. DB = Lyght
5. ST = Polian
6. OC = Chip Long
7. OL = HH
8. RB = Denson
Unrepresented are WR/TE/QB with one more opening? Almost all good recruiters. Should be interesting to see if there is one more change or more than one.
It seems like a forgone conclusion that Elko is bringing one coach with him and most are pretty confident it's Clark Lea, LB's coach. But, as of today, you are probably right.

Sounds like some elements of the Oregon offense with the 2 (And to a lesser extent 3) back sets, fast pace, and the option to be under center or shotgun. Sexy! Definitely doesn't sound like Pro Style Offense though unless one of those backs is a Fullback....in which case...

Its not pro style by most usages of the word
