NCAA questions Mississippi State's Chris Jones on Ole Miss recruitment - CBSSports.com

Figure it's only a matter of time before they get busted, funny thing is they lost this battle. Also interesting there is no question of Mississippi State's recruitment of him, just Ole Miss.

well they did have a crazy class last year pulling defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil. I'd like to think that they did it on the up-and-up. Oh wait...that was Ole Miss...my bad.

Guys calm down, its probably nothing, I mean there are just too many reasons for a person to commit to Ole Miss for them to even consider illegal benefits for recruits. Just think of all the great attractions to visit Mississippi: Your could be a large insect enthusiast, you have a hot cousin, or you just wanna casually wear your brand new white hooded robe without being judged.

Ole Miss has one of the most beautiful campuses in NCAA, is in a comfortable warm-weather climate surrounded by gorgeous southern women from Big-money Oxford families. Perhaps they are doing something illegal, but there are plenty of reasons they should be able to sell it to recruits.

The mother says at the end of the article they were nice and stressed academics. Now and SEC school selling academics, we can't have that! I'm sure all the other SEC schools have been clamoring for an investigation if they hear one of their ilk is claiming to be anything other than a football factory.

Eating his popcorn with anger and rage. Timid popcorn eating will not stand!

lol, I am glad someone else caught that. Very common misuse:

Definitely - I am definitely to going to the show tonight.
Defiantly - He was acting defiantly toward his teacher.

As for Ole Miss, no surprise because 1) It is the SEC and 2) It is Ole Miss and that class they got was unreal, especially for Ole Miss standards.

The only thing I know for sure about Mississippi is that I was told by several people "don't stop there" when I drove from Cali to Atlanta with my younger brother. I'm sure the campus at Ole Miss is nice though.

So lets say a team does something illegal in recruiting, be it offering money or something else. When the recruit decides to go somewhere else(especially a rival) what stops him from taking that school down?

I guess I'm just imagining a situation where schools use kids they know will sign with them to try to get rival teams to offer them incentives and be sanctioned.

Well, in the example you used........ taking money; it would not be in the recruits best interest, to divulge that he had violated the amateurism rules, and end up being ineligible to play college football...

If you actually take the money, then you're also ratting on yourself and will at least lose some eligibility (if not all of it... but if you came clean and donated the money to charity you'd maybe only miss a little bit of time depending on the amount of $$$).

If you don't actually take the money, then you lack proof of the offer.

So it's a catch 22.

What you can effectively rat on someone for without getting in trouble is:
-Impermissible contact
-Benefits offered to others (like family members or street agents)
-Hijinx on recruiting visits (like if they put you up on an unofficial or take you out to a nice dinner or offer you prostitutes you're almost surely not going to get slapped, but the school would... see Boise State minor violations)

I wouldn't be surprised to see the NCAA slap both Manziel and Ole Miss if they can to reassert themselves. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised to see them bungle it.

I meant that he was offered money and turned it down. I guess proof would be tough but I'm sure they could bring a recorder or something.

There are alot of schools with great campuses and hot chicks. Schools just don't muddle along in the recruiting process then all of a sudden become the King of Used Car Salesmen.

It is possible for a team to recruit well for one year. Now if they sustain recruiting success without on the field success, I might be more inclined to agree.

That's true, but my remarks are to statements on here suggesting Mississippi has little more to offer than a glorified mobile home park with all the southern stereotypes and inbred students. Everybody knows that's West Virginia.

Didn't I already tell you guys about a month ago this would happen? More specifically that Tunsil was offered cash in the range of six figures, and that there's a campus prostitution ring to get recruits?

I probably didn't mention that UGA was the one that reported this to the NCAA.

Just this in general...

I have wondered for YEARS why Ole Miss didn't recruit better mainly because of these factors...

now, they may be cheating, who knows... but just typcially speaking the usual state of their program never seemed to match the assumption of would it should be imo.

I think your assumption is a little too high. Apart from a few short periods and fluke years here and there, Ole Miss hasn't been even decent since the 60's. And they have to compete with Bama, Tennessee, and LSU on 3 sides, plus georgia, Florida, etc. in close proximity. Not exactly set up for success.

If I had a dollar for every time Ole Miss and Miss State accused each other of cheating when dealing with recruits I would be as rich as Johnny Football.

With that said, I have been to the Grove several times and that alone should be worth at least 2-3 five * players a year.

The bold was exactly my point... as to many of the programs you mention... what REALLy sperates them from Ole Miss in terms of what Ole Miss has to offer vs. them... not much... that is also my point... not saying they should be winning Natty's... but 'rarely decent' (which is true enough) never seemd to fit to me.
