So lets say a team does something illegal in recruiting, be it offering money or something else. When the recruit decides to go somewhere else(especially a rival) what stops him from taking that school down?
I guess I'm just imagining a situation where schools use kids they know will sign with them to try to get rival teams to offer them incentives and be sanctioned.
If you actually take the money, then you're also ratting on yourself and will at least lose some eligibility (if not all of it... but if you came clean and donated the money to charity you'd maybe only miss a little bit of time depending on the amount of $$$).
If you don't actually take the money, then you lack proof of the offer.
So it's a catch 22.
What you
can effectively rat on someone for without getting in trouble is:
-Impermissible contact
-Benefits offered to others (like family members or street agents)
-Hijinx on recruiting visits (like if they put you up on an unofficial or take you out to a nice dinner or offer you prostitutes you're almost surely not going to get slapped, but the school would... see Boise State minor violations)
I wouldn't be surprised to see the NCAA slap both Manziel and Ole Miss if they can to reassert themselves. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised to see them bungle it.
