Kid committed to Cincinnati yesterday, must like Greek food

Big pickup for the Bearcats. They need someone who can start three years from now, once Torrance Gibson's eligibility is exhausted.

Gibson is red-shirting this year, and will then have two years to play. That means Bryant will redshirt his freshman year, then backup Gibson as a RsFR. He'll be in line to be "the guy" as a RsSO.

That is, unless Gibson tears it up and Cincy/Denbrock land a true stud before then.

Anyone know how big OSU's 2017 recruiting class can be this year?
At some point they have to slow their roll.

That's the right decision. How long until more kids start taking these Ivys up on the offers?

he's actually predicted to stay home and attend UGA. They gonna be having soms transfers in the future i reckon

Ahh the ol' "Visit for a free game and then tell the coaches you aren't going there" routine. Nice.

Brass balls to go in after Fromm and Eason.

Although I think Eason will be holding a clipboard at UDub or maybe Wazzu next year.

I find something very odd this year in recruiting, especially this time of the year with the early signing period approaching.

According to 247sport.com, Alabama is #17 in team rankings for recruiting and they currently have no committed player in the top100. I am sure they are in it for some top100 talent and are expected to land by NSD, but is anyone else a bit surprised by Alabama's current recruiting class?

I do not expect them to be #1 every year, but I do expect them to be up near the top every year, especially as they are getting closer to a signing period.

I hear ya but when you get top 75 players to grey shirt, probably the last of their concerns. But they won't have the number one class this year which is weird especially considering their top commit is a center from Indy.

Coaching staff turnover hasn't allowed the new coaches to build those relationships that are important in recruiting. Bama will still close strong and will probably end in the top 10 come signing day. A down year judged against the recent past for sure.

I'll believe it when I see it. Bama has been so dominant in recruiting, I can't imagine them finishing any worse than 4th-5th, and that's a down year by Tide standards. I think they'll still find plenty of bluechippers who want to announce on signing day.

If you look at the top 100 list and where they are favored to go (obviously things can change) but Bama is not in the mix for many of them. I have a feeling that Bama will have a down year in recruiting this year. That means they will probably come in around 9-11. Would love ND to get that position though where getting the 10th best recruiting class is a bad year.

TTT, are Bama fans upset about it at all or is this expected (due to the coaching changes you mentioned)?

I think most of the fans are a little surprised that they don't have more high level recruits right now, especially at those positions of need. Most expect a good close but the one's that follow recruiting closely realize that getting in the top 10 is going to take some more work. Next year's class looks promising right now so missing this year won't hurt that bad... unless we miss on those need positions. Then it will show up a bit down the road.

Sheriron Jones, QB, commits to New Mexico. The saga continues. He originally committed in June '14 to Florida, decommitted and signed with Tennessee, left Tennessee for Colorado, did not enroll and returned to Tenn, sat out the spring '16 due to "undisclosed illness" and transferred to Mount San Jacinto CC. Understanding Service Academy Recruiting

It’s a fascinating time for the Navy football program. By the end of June, the Midshipmen had already secured verbal commitments from 46 recruits, with the majority coming in the last week of the month. That’s a remarkable number for this early in the recruiting process; in contrast, Navy had 16 verbal commitments at the end of June 2016. As of today, 57 players have given their pledge to come to Annapolis. While the class isn’t full quite yet, for the bulk of it to be committed before their senior years have even begun is noteworthy.

While the process is essentially the same, there are other substantial differences, with the biggest being the nature of the scholarships that are awarded to student-athletes. Strictly speaking, there are no athletic scholarships at the service academies. Every student at Army, Navy, and Air Force is on scholarship. Athletes get considerations in the nomination and admission process, but there is no financial aid earmarked for athletics. The scholarship that an athlete receives at a service academy is no different than the scholarship of every other midshipman or cadet.
The most important ramification from a fan’s perspective is that, because the NCAA regulates athletic financial aid, and because there is no athletic financial aid at the service academies, the NCAA’s scholarship limits don’t apply. Football Bowl Subdivision rosters are limited to 85 scholarships and 25 per recruiting class, but service academy classes are typically much larger. This is also why service academy players are allowed to receive a salary. They aren’t paid as a benefit for participating in athletics; they are paid because every academy student is paid according to his or her rank.

While the NCAA doesn’t limit the size of service academy recruiting classes, there are limitations set by the schools themselves. A common misconception among college football fans and media is that admissions at all three service academies is the same. That’s not the case. Each school’s admissions board sets the number of recruits that their teams can bring in, and that number is different for each school. For football, the Naval Academy tends to be the most selective, especially recently. The Mids announced a 2017 class of 54, for example, while Army announced a class of 82. Both Army and Air Force had 90+ verbal commitments on signing day.
