So we only play one team next year that has definitively recruited better than us. And that team is short on bodies and lost a ton of talent early to the NFL.

Rumors springing up about the recruitment of tOSU commit, KJ Hill. His HS football coach has been terminated pending an appeal. It is alleged that he illegally recruited Hill from Bryant HS where he spent his Fr & So seasons to No. Little Rock HS where he played his JR/SR seasons w/ both the football & bball teams. The Athletic Dept at NLR HS has already forfeited the games of the last two seasons in both sports. This nullifies their 2013-14 state basketball championship.

When Hill decomitted from Ark, Bielema reportedly quit recruiting him. The rumor is that they dropped a dime on NLR that lead to the termination of Coach Bolding. He was able to spend $100K on equipment for the football program. When asked where it came from, he described it as money from a private donor. If true, the question is did the "donation" come from a Bama bagman or a Buckeye bagman? Bama seemed to be the favorite to sign Hill & then Urban seemingly swept in and picked up his commitment out of the blue. This will end up as all unsubstantiated rumors b/c I guarantee there is no paper trail to track the donor back to any University.

I had some classes w/ Bolding in college. He followed his dad's footsteps as a HS football coach. His dad coached Conway HS to a state championship when he had Peyton Hillis at RB. My guess is that he loses his appeal or settles & is finished at his current school while nothing ever comes from the $100K & KJ Hill's recruitment.

What if we completely did away with National Signing Day? I'm tired of all the drama, the 17-year-old prima donnas acting like the entire universe revolves around them (and us and ESPN encouraging them to do so), the commitments that mean nothing, and all the rest of the silliness that goes along with NSD.

Andy Staples of SI has been advocating simply doing away with it and a lot of coaches are starting to agree. Commit and sign whenever you want. Offer, and if the recruit accepts and signs, it's a done deal and you're both bound by the decision. There are a lot of pluses about this idea.

That would seem to benefit the Urban Meyer's and James Franklins of the world, those that seem to crank up the pressure on visits. Notre Dame has tended to do the opposite.

^This

Too many kids get caught up in the moment and this could hurt those that make a "heat of the moment" decision. Whether it is due to peer/coach pressure to commit or due to the excitement of the visit that eventually wears off, I'm not in support of this.

doing this is a total coaching douche move IMO, its usually followed by pressure being put on kids not to take visits to other schools. Kids decommiting from PSU especially makes me happy

Exactly, but kids are able to back out of their verbal. If they are allowed to sign then they are stuck.

Not the place for this post but I want to see if more people think as I do about Urban Meyer. When he was woed by Notre Dame and went to Fla I thought oh well the restrictions and his request made him turn to Fla. Didn't like it but did not think much bad about the guy other than hey-he wants to win. After what went down in 4 + years at Fla and all these take it to the edge rule bending incidents I'm thinking this guys a raton. When Notre Dame lost the guy I was down about it-now after all this time seems to me the right decision was made and I am out on him ever sniffing around on a position at Notre Dame. Raton-Spanish for rat with emphasis on underhanded nasty dirty beady eyed untrustable sneaky slimmy etc.

We gotta stop talking a recruiting 12 year olds... It's absurd and it just another reason why these kids are delusional about the world.

Redbar is a decent inside runner, good wiggle, quickness and football speed, lacks another gear which is why he is spending much of this year in a cast after being caught from behind just shy of the goaline. (Football should not allow dragging a runner down by the back of his shoulder pads because of the potential for lower leg injuries. It should at least be a 15 yard penalty!) I think his future at the next level will be on the defensive side of the ball.

Excerpt from the NCAA release on Joker Phillips and the violation he committed:
Before the former coach talked with the prospect, he was notified by a recruiting service reporter that the prospect would be waiting outside of his high school when they arrived. Once the former coach was at the high school, he spoke with the prospect, let him know the school wanted the prospect to be a part of their football program and got the prospect’s social media contact information.

Just more proof that many of these recruiting "analysts" and "reporters" are actively try to influence the recruitment of prospects for their schools.

And no punishment for this recruiting service reporter because they aren't governed by NCAA, correct?

Yes, which is why guys like this currently unnamed dude, the guy in the earlier story posted in this thread about the guy who lied to a prospect to get him to flip from a rival school, Justin Hopkins, etc. have little to no consequences to their actions. The only person that can hold them accountable is their employers.

However, their employers know that these guys who develop relationships with coaches by helping them out/doing their dirty work outside of the NCAA regulations are going to likewise get the best inside information and therefor get the most subscribers. It's a 2-way street. And most of these guys got into the business by being "fans" first, and the line gets very blurry on what the journalistic ethics involved here are.

Alabama's newest 2016 commitment

Alabama's newest 2016 commitment

What is Alabama getting with new receiver commitment T.J. Simmons?

Let's put this one into our back pockets and reassess come Signing Day. Right now, TJ Simmon ranks as 247's No. 21 player in Alabama, the No. 83 receiver in America and nation's No. 559 player for 2016. Rivals rated him as the 18th-best player in Alabama and the No. 74 receiver overall.

Loves Alabama now though he grew up an Auburn fan. He still plans to go to Georgia's Junior Day, "I want it to be 100 percent for me and Bama, but I still want to look around." If Auburn offers. "I would take them and their offer into consideration and have it in the back of my mind thinking about it but I would still be pretty sure that I would still go to Alabama"

Bama tells Simmons "...they say I am their top (receiver) prospect in the Class of 2016. They say they want me to be the leader of their 2016 Class."

Over eleven months until NSD and Alabama has gotten a verbal from their top rated WR - a composite 84th best WR.

Of Bama's other twenty-four WR offers, those whose (247) interest is rated Warm or better for Alabama have composite rankings of 7, 16, 19, 45, 52, and 61

My item of the day---Big Ten ( who I don't like ) starting the very POSITIVE idea of freshmen non eligible. To quote their stance 'are we a quasi professional activity or is it a primarily educational activity'. Wow someone actually trying to do this right-no more semi pro football for the schools disguised as colleges. I think I'll start substituting my pet phrase of 'semi pro football' for 'quasi professional activity'---it sounds much better. I'm on board and for the record how many freshmen really bring much to the table in football. Sounds like someone's conscious is starting to bother them or they are tired of the football factories football factoring. It would benefit Notre Dame/Stanford/Duke/type schools to throw their weight around on this one. Sounds like the Big Ten doesn't like whats about to happen or has happened at 'the ohio state university'.
