C Rob to Bama. Now let's get Hootie and Fournette.

Meanwhile... the meltdown in Baton Rouge has begun.

They've also got college coaches coming in from all over the place... USC, Ohio State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Northwestern... guess who isn't represented? YUP.

Why would ND need to represent? We have black graduations rates and ROI on our side!

Our recruiting efforts this year are hurt by a couple of things:
1. Catfish
2. Kelly's contract... now taken care of, but that was an issue
3. Catfish
4. All other other BS with EV, Golson, etc.
5. Catfish
6. BCSNCG stomping
7. Catfish
8. Core 6 and other people working against us.

It's going to take multiple years and good seasons for people to forget the Manti debacle. We're not a desirable place right now mainly because of that. If you looked at the WSJ chart that had an axis for general "ick" factor and we were all the way at the bottom..... yeah, it's because of the Lennay Kekua crap. For kids around the country (especially in the south) instead of it being "wow! you're going to Notre Dame!" it's "haha I hope you can find a real girlfriend!"

I don't think people really grasp how hard it is to sell the program right now who weren't already slightly bought in to ND. We're still going to get a lot of good players most likely (Quick, Luatua, etc.) who put the other things aside, but it's going to be an uphill battle especially if there are strong local schools. Look at what happened with Hood... he was bought in, his parents weren't at all, and we lose out.

Not having the Core 6 group on your side may not be a bad thing. They churn out diplomas as fast as they churn out football players. One reason Bo is there. He would not make it with Alabama academic standards but will probably qualify in Florida. Think about that.... Alabama standards are higher than what Core 6 deals with. Not saying all the players there are academically challenged but I bet a good percentage is.

And I do agree that ND has to have a good run for a few years, win some BCS bowls, and then they get back into the hunt with players that may not necessarily be considering them.

As usual Lax, I agree with your post completely. Being in the south (Mississippi) I hear about #'s 1,3,4,5,6,7 on a daily basis. Ah, coming to work this morning, I knew what I was going to hear all day. The Michigan loss has been brought up by students and fellow teachers all day. My response to them has been this, "I LOVE ND because of the fact that ND does it right from top to bottom. Unlike the school all of you pull for...SEC, ND actually values education first and down the line is playing career in the NFL." I am not kidding when I type the general response! "That's why ND is no good! ITs all about getting to the 'League'." I would have to add a number 9 to your list. That would be... At ND, you must have a real major (I don't think that ND offers "Poultry Engineering" as a major) and you must attend classes & make the grades honestly.

This is a sad, but true, example of how some high school athletes think down here... I have a coaching buddy that had a very good running back that was being recruited heavily by top programs. This student/athlete's main concern was, "how easy are the classes?" He made it clear to the coaches that stopped by to recruit him that he wanted the easiest major he could find. He was only interested in honing his skills and making it to the "League"! The worst part about this is, this particular school is the top school in the state in football and one of the top schools in the country year in and year out. A few years ago, they had the nations longest winning streak.

i think the only way you could think like that is if you weren't a competitor.

Competitor's want to be the best regardless of situation.

The top 25 players? Then he says with best families? I can guarantee you that the top 25 players don't necessarily come from the 25 best families. Plus what if 8 or 9 of the top players play the same position? You can tell he's been around Urban Liar. UM is known for saying he only goes after the top 1%, but if that's all he did, he would never be able to fill his roster. I'll give the guy an A for passion.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. I stared at that in rage for a good 10 seconds before I finally decided I just have to move on.

We dragged our feet on a 5:s: that was already committed to Notre Dame.* Well played, Diaco.**

*I don't think he has 5:s: film, and I'm as biased as it gets when it comes to Hubbard.
**As much as I definitely won't miss Diaco's questionable linebacker recruiting where he searches for a mythical big/strong/fast/awesome ILB that just doesn't exist and ends up only taking 2 guys in 3 years... I've got to say, overall I'm pretty stoked about the crop of linebackers we'll have in this class if we get Morgan. Depth and talent in abundance.

Smdh. I have to echo Lax ... love our LB class already, don't get me wrong, but it's seriously crazy that it includes Drue Tranquill, but we chose to PASS on a 5 STAR who fits a similar athletic profile and was ALREADY COMMITTED TO ND. And we are lucky to even have Tranquill ... we are lucky to have been able to steal him from Purdue after offering late. Gotta act more quickly in making these LB offers in the future.

I think LB recruiting will see improvement now that Diaco is gone. I freaking love the guy, and think he is a very good coach, but honestly he just wasn't a good recruiter. Period.

To be fair, he did land us Ishaq. However, he hasn't developed him.

But that's the last recruit I remember him landing.
