Sounds right up my wife's alley!
We may be married to twin sisters. My wife is smart as hell and generally has good taste in most things, but watches (and loves) some of the most incredibly bad, insulting to your intelligence, lousy, stupid, moronic, no plot, bad acting, ridiculous movies & TV shows imaginable.

All females are born with that gene.

I saw this on a plane and thought it was OK. Wife wanted to watch it a few months later, I relented and I found I really didn't like it the second time.

I had the opposite experience. I was underwhelmed the first time watching it and thought it was just OK, but liked it better the second time I saw it several months later. Interesting premise and reasonably well executed. Yeah, it was sort of goofy and corny, but still a good idea and story.

I enjoyed the concept of Yesterday having felt overwhelmed by bad sequels, remakes and an inundation of Marvel films over the last several years.

It was ok. The main character did all of his own singing and guitar playing, which I thought was cool after the fact.

"American Fiction." It's rightly been nominated for several Oscars. It's the kind of movie people, okay me, say Hollywood doesn't make anymore. Smart, funny, involving, and able to artfully engage in social commentary without beating you over the head. I've always liked Jeffery Wright and it's good seeing him get a meaty leading role like this; the guy's a great actor.

This Is Where I Leave You

A total mess of a movie but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the sibling complex between Jason Bateman, Adam Driver, Tina Fey, and Corey Stoll

Saw it a few weeks ago and agree it's a great movie.

Saw Poor Things and Anatomy of a Fall in the last few days.

Poor Things is definitely the most approachable work for this director, so I can see why people are heaping praise on it. Mark Ruffalo is hilarious, and Dafoe is great. Emma Stone did really good work with a physically challenging part. Felt like watching a early 19th century absurdist novella. Strong 8/10. Closer to a 9 than a 7.

Anatomy of a Fall was a good courtroom drama that really is more of an examination of what happens when a flawed relationship is put under a microscope. Not as impressed with this one, but it was well edited. There were some very strong performances and a few scenes in particular made it worth the watch on their own. 7/10.

Wife finished reading Dune this morning so we're going to see the matinee for Part 2. Pumped. Love me some Dune and am never disappointed by Denis Villenueve.

The second half of the novel seemed to move at warp speed to me. Almost like after all the setup and careful description of the first half of the novel, Herbert realized how much he still wanted to tell, so he powered through the last 40% of the novel. Curious how that will play out in the movie.

Yep, very curious to see what they do with the time skip. I suspect they will act like it doesn't happen, which will make things feel more rushed than ever. But that would let them not deal with putting Alia on screen lol.

Dune 2 was great. Not completely faithful but I understood why they changed what they changed except for one fairly major deviation. Felt like a quick movie at nearly 3 hours which is extremely high praise. Standout peeformance/character was Jessica. They really nailed how creepy the Bene Geserit are.

On a recommendation from a friend, I watched “The Accountant”. I liked how they tied it all together at the end. Worth the watch.

Watched "Our Friend" with Jason Segal and it was utterly fantastic. A rare film that stops you in your tracks.

Watched The Catcher was a Spy with Paul Rudd. True story of Boston Red Sox catcher Moe Berg. He was sent to Europe during WWII to kill a scientist in Germany who the US. thought was working on the atomic bomb for Germany. Received the Medal of Freedom for his actions but refused it. Not bad, I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Also watched The Wrong Missy with David Spade. Typical Happy Gilmore type movie, but a nice break from the dramas.

Just got out of a late showing. Honestly felt like the movie matched the last third of the novel beat-for-beat in terms of how the pace of Paul’s story/rise accelerates, particularly in terms of the final third of the movie, where it seems to move at warp speed just like the book… and I mean that as a compliment to the film. They pulled it off without making it feel rushed or convenient, imo. Very good movie.

I saw Dune 2.
It was pretty good, but I thought part 1 was considerably better.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but your opinion mirrors my feelings on the book. I was much more interested in the fish out of water Atreides trying to mine spice than what it devolves into.
