I have yet to see that movie. Was already a teenager when it came out, but with a toddler in tow now, maybe we will go see the new one.

Hostiles. Decent, it had its moments. Could have been better IMO.

Free State of Jones......Pretty good. Didn't realize it was based on a real person and events until the movie was over.

I'm struggling to understand what the appeal of these CGI remakes is though? Beauty and the Beast I get because it had actual humans in it. This movie looks like it will exactly the same as the animated version. Aladdin is going to have humans, too. Lion King I don't really get.

beauty and the beast was terrible, probably the worst of all these remakes

Nostalgia. It's creatively bankrupt.

Watched Silverado for the first time in a long while... it's an odd flick, it's so over the top cliched and cheesy at times yet I can't really tell if it was deliberate or if it was actually taking itself seriously. If it's the latter then it's pretty damned cringey.

I get this totally... they are doing rte Little Mermaid too. Lion King is one of my fav movies though. Doesn't me I'll go to see this one, but the preview took me off guard, everyone in the room at the time was like, "WHAT!?!?"...

Nostalgia. It's modern Hollywood, 95% of what they put out is creatively bankrupt.

The edit is pretty much how I see it...

I remember talking about this movie in a film class. My professor said something like "Lawrence Kasdan didn't just decide to make a western; he wanted to make all the westerns." That sounds about right. It's a fun movie if you don't take it too seriously.

I get why Hollywood is putting it out there. I don't get why lots of people are like OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG to the trailers.

The same reason. Nostalgia of childhoods a big tool to market for our generation right now. Ten years ago it was for early 80s kids who were the perfect age for the Transformers toys. For people around our age renessaince disney was a huge childhood fixture.

The Jungle Book remake grossed nearly $1 billion at the box office, and that was 95% CGI talking animals. There's no heavy lifting in remaking these classics, since they're just recycling an already proven storyline. There aren't many corporations that would turn down a lay-up for ten figures.

Watched the Maltese Falcon again. One of my top five movies of all time. I suggest you youngsters take a step back in time (even before my time) and watch a classic.

I mean it was pretty awesome... I didn't get up for any of the other ones. For the Lion King tho,... I'm sitting there watching football with my family, stuffed, drinking... enjoying life and the trailer hits... took me totally off guard for one(I had no idea it was being made and if i did know I had forgotten) , it's an all time fav for two, and the moment in general was pretty cool, my nieces, nephews, daughters, wife, and brother in law were all like, "WHOAH!!!" I was a pretty cool moment. I almost certainly won't see it in theaters tho.

That moment tho:

I watched one of my favorite sleeper films recently, "Best Seller." It's great little pulpy movie from the late 80s. Brian Dennehy plays a cop who also writes crime books. He gets a visit from a mysterious stranger (James Woods, in top form) who wants Dennehy's character to write a book about him. Woods is a killer who claims he helped one of the most successful businessmen in the area build his empire by killing people who got in his way.

It's a cool movie and really helped along by how well Woods and Dennehy play off each other. I can see it being one of those movies that influenced Tarantino.

Rewatched the opium fever dream of a movie, Once Upon a Time in America. Gets better with every viewing. Damn does Morricone know how to write a score.

great flick. was originally filmed to be 6 hours (2 x 3hr), then shortened to like a little less than 4 hours, then shortened again to be less than 2.5 hours.

Did you watch the Euro version (4hr), or the standard US?

Leone and Morricone were magic together.

Euro version. Damn a 6 hour epic of this would've been great.

we won't ever see 6hr version as so much was supposedly tossed, but last I heard (several years ago) Scorsese is trying to buy the rights to what I think was 25ish minutes of available deleted scenes, and make it the most original cut ever.

Ehh, I'm not sure I'm in love with Scorsese's editing, but man an extra 25 minutes would be great.

I’m a huge mob flick fan, one of my fans genres, Once Upon a Time in America is the only well know mob movie I have not watched from start to end. I’ve only caught a few pieces over the years,... need to fix that soon.

From start to end would be a lot. I suggest taking the natural break at the intermission
