Watched Home Alone for like the 10th time last night with the family... crazy it's this "American Holiday Classic" and I remember it being new... also cray what happened to that kid. Still a very enjoyable movie though.

I saw "Coco" last night. Visually, a very stunning movie. Disney/Pixar's ability to animate water is simply amazing, as is their ability to capture emotion in subtle facial movements. It's worth spending money to see it in a theatre.

Like "Moana" (a Polynesian Movie), I don't think it's going to do as well as it should in revenue. Coco is a Mexican movie. These animated movies that stray beyond plain-vanilla never do as well.

I thought Moana was the best Disney movie since "Beauty and The Beast" (the original.) Coco is the best Pixar movie since "Monsters Inc.", with just as many feels. The closing scenes of Coco are about as devastating as the first ten minutes of "Up".

Did $49M. 4th largest Nov opening ever. I guess a bunch of Gringos thought it was muy bien.

Moana made almost 700 million didn't it? I mean, shesh... that's a high bar if that's not cutting it. If anything these cultural movies are headaches because part of the very people they are aiming to please by making them find fault with every little damned thing in it regardless... case in point was all the SJW media types that got all pissy over Moana not having a female goddess in it or having the wrong style of raft for the culture in question and on and on... it was ridiculous.

So disappointing, I had been a little excited to see these until the reviews started leaking out.

However, I have heard good things about The Florida Project, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer

A24 just keeps hitting home runs.

I think Sacred Deer looks better than the Florida Project but I'll be seeing both for sure. I guess Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman must have had fun being insane together filming the Beguiled since they decided to do it over again. The singing was making me physically uncomfortable watching that trailer. Florida Project is going to come down to the strength of the child actors which is always a risky proposition.

There is nothing redeeming about The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Probably the worst movie I have ever seen in a theatre.

I think I mainly went to go see it because I had just seen Nicole Kidman at Mass for the first time in a while, and felt like going to support her new movie. If I see her again soon, I'm going to tell her her movie sucks- might even work it into the Sign of Peace. It was that bad.

Watched Suicide Squad last night after seeing Justice League this weekend. DC just doesn't get it done like Marvel. JL would have been better without "HE" - no reason they couldn't have gotten the job done without him. As soon as HE shows up, its a complete no contest. The egg with Luthor and whoever that other guy was was so lame - like these two pussies stand a chance? Agree that Flash was best character except for some gratuitous WW camera angles - she might be the best potential franchise out of the whole team. They managed to make Aquaman not a puss which is an accomplishment but overplayed his tough-guy-don't-give-a-crap card.

SS - just a lot of wtf is the point of this crap. Trying to make bad guys a bunch of soft hearted saps? Boomerang guy - seriously did he do anything? Another all powerful being that is suddenly vulnerable in the end? I mean those guys should have been smoked in half a second. Dial down the power of the villains and settle for destroying the city instead of the world as the MO and it becomes more believable. Just over the top for no good reason creating a completely unbelievable sequence to win. Joker was meh.

I feel like I mainly watch DC stuff to validate how well Marvel is killing it with their universe. JV vs. Varsity really. Feels like they are pot committed to Batman via Justice League so no solo follow ups to the Dark Knight series that was really good. Now it is old Batman, the savvy veteran leading a band of superheroes. Cyborg will even make his gadgets look lame.

Loved this take on Suicide Squad

$49M is a nice take, but that's not a hard number to come by now that movies cost $12 a seat, minimum.

I heard that this movie is, legitimately, the biggest movie opening in Mexican history.

"Frozen" set a pretty high bar for animated-movie success.

I don't understand what the complaints were about. I'm not ethnically Hawaiian (or any Polynesian, for that matter) but I thought "Moana" captured the Oceanic cultures perfectly. The only thing they got wrong was the fact that Maui was always portrayed as a small trickster, not a Chris Fuamatu-Maafala body-double.

Pffft... Up in Smoke did like a 100 billion pesos in 2017 dineros.

Snuck in to the drive-in with 8 other kids in the trunk of my neighbors Buick Duece and a Quarter.

I'm interested in seeing Coco, but I won't lie, I immediately thought of The Book of Life from 2014 when I saw the first trailer. I wonder if that turns people off from seeing it.

Idk but the marketing for Coco has been terrible IMO. I couldn't tell you a single thing from the trailers other than it's about Mexican people.

The movie also contains skeletons and a guitar. The kid is dead or something?

I vaguely remember the guitar.

It's crazy how often parallel thinking happens in hollywood.

Pixar already had to cancel Newt in 2011 which was pretty far into production because it was too similar to Dreamwork's Rio.

Which was too bad because Rio was very forgettable.

They were the teen girl obsession of the early 1980s... hard to believe looking back on it.. also, the shots from the front of the boat are all really cool but just about every other shot in that video is horrible, wtf were they thinking?? "Let's have a random hand walk across the shot here, let's pour water here for no reason, let's put our sax player on a make shift raft, that would be cool..."

80s....

Quick synopsis:

Boy is from a family of shoe makers, a family who banned music. Boy loves music, tries to enter a contest on The Day of the Dead, by using a guitar that belongs to his dead hero (his long lost great great grandfather.) Boy "dies" because he stole from the dead. Boy enters the afterlife, meets his dead relatives, and tries to meet his hero, in order to pursue his dreams. Boy has to make things right, by sunrise.

Aaaaaaand cry.

What a beautiful movie in every sense of the word. Pixar hit another home run.

Could have done without the Frozen 'short' though. Christ Olaf the most annoying fictional character ever!

Thank you. Now I can convince my children that we already watched it.

Remember? It was the dead kid with the guitar? Yeah, we saw it...

Watching the Crucible as it's leaving Netflix tomorrow. Great cast but the phlanging or whatever of the audio is too distracting.

Dude next to me was trying to stay strong, but he just couldn't hold it in; started full-on sobbing. That last duet with Miguel and Coco is brutal.
