Most players who are arrested and dismissed from a SEC team don't usually end up back in the SEC (or in a Power 5 conference). Here are a few who have:

Ty Flourney-Smith (false reporting of a crime 2/'13, Georgia) - to Alabama (Class of '14)
Jonathan Taylor (theft 3/'14, assault 7/'14, Georgia) - to Alabama (Class of '15)
Nick Marshall (robbery 2/'12, Georgia) - to Auburn (Class of '13)
Tray Matthews (theft 3/'14, Georgia) - enrolled at Auburn 8/'14
Alvin Kamara (driving on a suspended license, failure to appear 2/'14, Alabama) - to Tenn (Class of '15)

Wow, 4 of the 5 came from Georgia. Obviously it's bad news when one of your players screws up, but credit Richt for giving them the boot because that takes guts in a tough league. Obviously they were decent players as they wound up back in the SEC when all was said and done. Georgia did a great job with the Gurley situation too, other schools would have tried to sweep it under the rug. Lot of respect for Richt.

Richt has earned a reputation as a good guy who takes discipline seriously and tries to do the right thing. However, he's had more than his share of players who needed to be disciplined or even dismissed from the team. He tends to sign too many kids with behavior issues and lots of red flags. I don't think that's because he puts winning above all else. I think he genuinely believes he can turn every one of these kids around and keep them on the straight and narrow.

Richt is adamantly against over-signing too. He has said numerous times he absolutely refuses to offer a scholarship to a kid unless UGA can honor their end, and he has lost many kids throughout the years because he had to wait to offer to keep in-line with a guaranteed spot.

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with giving a player a second chance, but you have to look at the severity of the offense and how often they've been in trouble. That goes for all coaches and life in general. People do make mistakes in life, but at what point is a player beyond hope? The important thing is that Richt seems to act accordingly based on this info and gives kids the boot if they don't follow the rules. Can't fault a coach that does that, it's the player's fault if he blows his chance. While some players deserve a second chance after a mistake, some players should not be imo: multiple offenses should probably mean a loss of NCAA eligibility, and serious offenses should also result in a loss of NCAA eligibility across the board.

Nick Marshall, Tray Matthews and Auburn owe Mark Richt for doing the right thing

"I have never hindered a transfer from going anywhere that he wants to go," he (Richt) said.

"When guys leave our program, my goal for them is that they continue their career and they realize all their dreams," he said. "Life's too short. They're young men that make mistakes. If somewhere along the way you learn from your mistake, you turn it around, finish your career strong, I'm happy for the guy.
"

Nick Marshall’s long and winding road -- UGA dismissal a turning point for former Wilcox star

He wanted to play the position that got him to where he was, quarterback. And he felt like he could do it,” Ledford said. “He wanted to go to a junior college and get that done. And he wanted to come back to the SEC. I can’t say exactly what set him to it. Maybe after a year of playing in the SEC at the Division I level he thought he could handle that position.

Ha, Kentucky fans are up-in-arms about this situation now that the videos are out.

I'm no expert, but it appeared that the EKU guy was the aggressor in the bar, before getting pummeled and beat with beer bottles by three UK players.

Later, I'm guessing one of his teammates heard about it, and having been at UK he knew who to look for, so he tracked Barker down and knocked him out.

UK fans don't seem to want to discuss why their stud youngster at QB is getting knocked out without his teammates seeming to care all that much. At least they handed him his hat and helped prop him up on the desk?

Been through Immokalee before. An impoverished town. Edgerrin James created a facility and program for youth in Immokalee. Evidently Jackson never made his way over there.

The Edge was a class act. Humble and giving. Did not think I'd say that staring at his gold teeth the day the Colts grabbed him up. Would be nice to see Edgerrin reach out to Jackson.

UT's Pearson named rape suspect, suspended indefinitely

"Pearson, 23, is at least the sixth University of Tennessee football player on the roster during last fall's season who has been accused of sexual assault."

2 things. First, this is why they oversign. If you forecast you're going to have this many players involved in felonious activities, you know you're going to need alot of bodies. Second, I thought Urban was at pOSU?

Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones arrested on domestic violence charges

"Jones is the fourth Alabama player arrested since late March.

Safety Geno Smith was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor was booked on domestic violence charges. Running back Tyren Jones was charged with possession of marijuana.

Taylor and Jones were both dismissed from the team.

Jones is entering his third season as a starting cornerback.
"

Also, from source above:
"Unlike Jonathan Taylor, however, this one seems to be much closer to Ryan Anderson's ill-considered shouting match. Still, the threat of violence to a woman absolutely cannot be countenanced - not in 'the real world' and certainly not at this program."

Alabama is not LSU.

I haven't followed whether Bama oversigns or not...but after reading this it would certainly make sense. I know we've had a few instances over the years of kids getting in trouble in the off-season. Such a shame that kids don't always recognize what a fantastic opportunity that they have been given.

Just when I was thinking of posting Alabama (5) had more arrests than LSU (1) and Auburn (1) combined, LSU catches the Tide with four arrests in two days.

LSU football player Trey Lealaimatafao arrested after bar fight
"This is Lealaimatafao’s third such off-the-field incident and second arrest in one year in Baton Rouge.

Lealaimatafao, a redshirt freshman from Texas, dug through the pockets of an unnamed male victim after the victim had been beaten unconscious by “uknown suspects” in the parking lot of Reggie’s bar on Tuesday, police records show. Lealaimatafao then punched the victim’s girlfriend in the face with a closed fist when she interfered, police records show
."

"LSU went nearly an entire year without having a football player arrested before offensive lineman Jevonte Domond’s arrest three weeks ago on a felony domestic abuse battery with strangulation. The victim was his girlfriend."

LSU QB Anthony Jennings, three more football players arrested on Thursday and suspended
"The intruders entered Anderson’s bedroom, destroying the door frame and locks, the police report says...Anderson, who was out of town, returned to find the following shoes missing from his room: a pair of gray/blue Georgetowns ($200), red/white Cherry’s ($120) and black 4’s ($200)."

LSU - 5, Alabama - 5

Arrest records by SEC team over five year period

Arrest records by SEC team over five year period

And now for your updated SEC football arrests standings. . . (from New Orleans Times-Picayune)

from August 3, 2010 through April 29, 2015
"Since that date, the SEC has had 216 arrests/citations/charges, far more than other Power 5 conferences. Second behind the SEC is the Big 12 with 125, Big 10 with 113, Pac 12 with 98 and ACC with 96.

Of the 10 schools with most arrests, half of them are SEC members. Pac-12 member Washington State and Big 12 member Oklahoma lead the Power 5 schools in arrests/citations/charges with 32 and 23 respectively.

Georgia and Texas A&M lead the SEC with 22 arrests/citations/charges, followed by Missouri with 21 and Florida with 20. LSU is tied with Mississippi State for 11th in the 14-team conference, with nine players arrested each
."

From April 29 through today, further SEC arrests - Alabama 1, Mississippi St 1, Auburn 1, LSU 5.

LSU totals now jump past Auburn and Arkansas to ninth position among SEC teams with 15, behind Alabama in eighth with 18.
