Also from that same 2012 Alabama class as Geno Smith

Also from that same 2012 Alabama class as Geno Smith

Read the chilling account of one student attacked by Alabama football players - Saturday Down South

D.J. Pettway, who was part of this attack and after going to CC, has been readmitted to Alabama in the Class of 2014.

Former Alabama defensive back Eddie Williams denied youthful offender status

Opinion: Could Bama's Kurt Freitag leave Tide at low ebb?

Ty Flourney-Smith, who had been dismissed from Georgia for reselling his textbooks, is also a member of the Class of 2014. Neither Pettway nor Flourney-Smith have had any disciplinary problems that I know of at Alabama.

Yes. Even Oregon was going to deny admission to Rodney Woods because of a felony (plea deal) on his record. Mile Belotti wrote the judge a letter requesting that the judge reduce the charge to a misdemeanor. The judge did so, and Woods was admitted. But, good lord; no one has less integrity or scruples than Oregon........................ do they?

Not many, that Nike symbol and money sure makes people look the other way.

How does a guy with pending felony domestic abuse charges in another state even get admitted to the University of Alabama?

By being a 4-5 star recruit...that's how. This too shall pass and soon forgotten.

Photo is from yesterday's RollBamaRoll article.

Bad news sometimes comes in threes. A suspended player arrested and charged with a felony possession with drug paraphenalia. Tough to keep from dismissing him, but it could be similar to Freitag - indefinite suspension from the team for the semester.

He was permanently dismissed earlier today. Jones has had multiple suspensions and several chances to get his act together. Life's tough. It's even tougher when you're stupid.

Second Chances

Second Chances

For those that want to read it, here's some of the transcript from yesterdays interview with Saban.

Rewinding Nick Saban's comments on Jonathan Taylor, Geno Smith | AL.com

From the above article:
"Saban on Jonathan Taylor: 'I think it's very unfortunate that the guy came here with some very specific guidelines and zero tolerance and obviously didn't live up to that. While we've created many opportunities for players through the years, sometimes those things have worked out extremely well, we're sad to say in this case it didn't. We all take responsibility for that.'"

Most players who are arrested and dismissed from a SEC team don't usually end up back in the SEC (or in a Power 5 conference). Here are a few who have:

Ty Flourney-Smith (false reporting of a crime 2/'13, Georgia) - to Alabama (Class of '14)
Jonathan Taylor (theft 3/'14, assault 7/'14, Georgia) - to Alabama (Class of '15)
Nick Marshall (robbery 2/'12, Georgia) - to Auburn (Class of '13)
Tray Matthews (theft 3/'14, Georgia) - enrolled at Auburn 8/'14
Alvin Kamara (driving on a suspended license, failure to appear 2/'14, Alabama) - to Tenn (Class of '15)

You hope for the best for any of these young men who've lost such an opportunity due to their crimes. To my knowledge, Marshall, Flourney-Smith, and Matthews have had no further disciplinary issues.

At LSU, players who commit crimes like battery and burglary usually just get a light suspension after it has been reduced to a misdemeanor.

Taylor's accuser has recanted her story and was subsequently arrested for filing a false report.

Jonathan Taylor accuser recants story, charges to be reviewed | AL.com

Did she lie about what happened and cause Taylor to be unfairly charged? Did Taylor assault her, but now the woman regrets reporting it and derailing her man's career? I'm leaning towards the latter, but it could be either.

Based on past behavior, I'm going with the latter as well. If this was his first offense then I would understand, but its his 3rd and thats a pattern.

So what's the word on Geno Smith?

Is Saban gonna let a second DUI fly?

Of Taylor's two previous arrests while at UGA, only one was for assault. The other was for cashing a check that he'd previously cashed electronically.

Fair but my opinion doesn't change. There is clearly a pattern of very poor decision making.

It looks like Smith will not be dismissed from the team, but will be required to participate in counseling, miss some playing time this season, and has been told that any further issues will result in being dismissed from the team.

Indeed. My gut reaction to some of these kids and their stupid behavior is to tell them to pack their bags and to view them as hopelessly idiotic... and then I think back to my own days as an 18-25 year old and remember some of the incredibly stupid stuff I did before finally getting my head on straight and growing up.

I think thats a fair approach and something I try to do as well. However, hitting women is a much bigger deal than any trouble I got into when I was that age. Therefore, I don't have very much tolerance, if any, for it.

So I don't follow Finebaum that much because I always thought he was an SEC apologist or fanatic might be a better word choice. So looking for some clarity. Does he ever call out the SEC/Bama like this or is this a big deal because its out of the ordinary?

A little of both. He's been critical of the SEC and Bama/Saban before. It's not all that uncommon actually. I think he's been much harsher in his criticism this time because the situation is bigger than normal.

She has since been arrested for filing a false report. I think the former might just be a good possibility. If true, then they should put her in jail for a long time. This Taylor kid has obviously made his own bed, but this second allegation probably put the last nail firmly in his football coffin. If she was lying, then she probably stole a chance at the NFL from the guy. Maybe he could go after her in a civil suit for damages due to lost wages...

I know he wouldn't be likely to actually see much money. But think of this way......... that bitch would never own a house. Anything of value would go to him, hopefully.

I think what gets lost in a discussion like this is all the bad decisions that get made long before these situations arise, like who you associate with, when and where you do your associating, and other things that fall far from the immediate circumstances, like goal-setting, etc.

And in fairness poverty makes it easier to make poor decisions. And so does the very pedestal that we put beneath our young athletes.

I don't know about any of you, but as much as I have ever had a problem with any given young thug, I have had as much of a problem with those that facilitate them. They certainly should know better!

* I suppose that is why a shower really doesn't work. But I still don't stop wanting one.
