Also, I'd just like to point out we had an NFL caliber football player get suspended for an entire season for a DUI. He then got suspended for an entire other season for blowing a .01 on a breathalyzer while on probation. He was also a two sport star and All-American lacrosse player. He ended up transferring after the second suspension.

We also kicked our star basketball player completely out of school for marijuana.

Just some food for thought as you evaluate how seriously ND takes "infractions." The ONLY reason Floyd got off "light" was that he was lucky enough to commit his infraction in the spring and get suspended for that semester of activities.

The thing with this is that in both the rape accusations you bring up, both charges were dropped. And in one of those cases, "the gangrape", even though the charges would eventually be dropped, the school expelled all three players involved (Donald Dykes, Lorenzo Crawford, and Abram Elam.) The funniest part of you mentioning that one is the guy who signed Abram Elam to the NFL after the incident was none other than Nick Saban.

Saying the school hasn't taken appropriate action in the past is crazy. The school has expelled or suspended athletes for MUCH less than that. So much so that fans used to become angry with how strict Notre Dame was.

No one is or can or has argued your mentioning of DUIs and disorderly conducts and what not.

And I REALLY hesitated to even bring up the rape/sexual assault accusations. When Wooly was trashing Bama a few days ago, I was tempted to then, but didn't. I don't know all the details of any of those three accusations. I know that there are a lot of people who feel ND didn't handle those incidents nearly as well as it should have, but it's not my place nor my desire to debate the details or the validity of those things, nor to criticize the school. I mentioned them only to point out that bad stuff happens at every school, no school is perfect, and even ND players sometimes get into serious trouble.

I don't think anyone's going to say our players don't ever get into trouble. However, I would say that Notre Dame's players tend to commit far fewer violent crimes than those of other institutions, and to be punished far more severely in general when they screw up.

I don't have a problem with how ND handled the Floyd thing. By all accounts, he earned his way back and I have no issue whatsoever with a guy messing up and earning forgiveness and a second chance. We all need that sometimes, and I certainly have more than once in my life.

I also am not criticizing ND with any of this. I think you have a fine school and strive to do things the right way. I've criticized a small element of your fanbase for hypocritically trashing so many others, while pretending ND is perfect and that your players never do anything wrong. Most of you don't do that. A few do, though.

I am starting to take issue though with a couple of your statements....

I think we're talking about different things here, and this being an emotionally charged topic tends to cause all of us to overreact or at least misinterpret what was meant. First, my comments about "I guess they all just made it up" was a little too much, but was in response to someone claiming all of it was made up, the work of hacks, etc. I agree that accusations are often far from being true and you listed several examples.

I have no idea if the accusations against any ND players are true or not. I have no desire to trash ND or its players, and I certainly don't want to smear anyone on unsubstantiated and false accusations. I just pointed out that all the claims from a few of your fans that "Everybody else is lawless and evil and we're pure as the driven snow" aren't likely to be quite as accurate as they'd like to believe.

I'm sorry, but you'll just have to realize that you're in enemy territory.

If you refrain from talking bad about ND, you'll have no problems from me. Other posters will attack you and your school on a regular basis though.

Also, if you're going to get into it with the posters, don't miss the good rebuttals (ie Lax's post). That makes it appear like you're trolling. And trolls will be banned.

My suggestion, if you want to survive, avoid arguing. I promise you won't really win anything by trying to. Most posters who argue with you will never change their opinions based on yours.

SIAP, but has anyone brought up the Fulmer Cup yet? Named for the former coach of an SEC team, the SEC has won the cup four times in the last seven years (the total number of years it has been awarded). This is, of course, more than all other conferences combined. Alabama and Auburn are both recipients of this distinguished award.

Oh, I realize arguing on the Internet is not likely to change anyone's mind about anything. I have no delusions about my ability to do so, nor is it to troll.

I wan't trying to ignore Lax's post. I was just responding to several people at once and missed it. I hope I adequately addressed his points above.

As for criticizing ND, I don't believe I have. As stated several times in this thread, I'm not criticizing ND and I think it's a fine school that tries to do things the right way. I criticized a few of your fans for being hypocrites and exceedingly self righteous, sanctimonius, and wilfully blind to any imperfections at your school or among your players, while being all too eager to criticize everyone else - a charge leveled by plenty of others outside your fanbase.

I understand you weren't trying to ignore him, but sometimes perhaps it's best (if you choose to argue) to avoid the smaller, circular arguments and respond to the bigger, proper rebuttals.

As for criticizing our fanbase for a sense of "Greater Than Thou" attitude, many can accuse the SEC and Alabama fans in particular of similar arrogance -- a charge leveled by plenty of others outside your fanbase. :)

I think a Julio Jones vs Michael Floyd spelling contest is in order, with guest referee Rolando "when ME made that play" McClain.

Still not sure why we are so welcoming to someone who has long wore theirs out........

The 2013 season can't start soon enough. Seems the worthless trolls get booted faster during the season.

Bishop has been very well received until his last few posts and a few misguided posts does necessarily not make a troll. There are plenty of boards out there that run off posters for not conforming to the majority views, no less for being a fan of another team, but I'd like for us to be a board that can handle having fans from other teams around.

I can't tell you how many times I've gotten into it with ND haters about the Lizzy Seeburg "incident." No one outside of the ND community even attempts to educate themselves about the situation. The media is worse. It makes me sick that people want to drag _____'s name under the bus (we all know who) even after the investigation showed that he did nothing illegal.

I tried but can't find anything other then the hate articles and I don't even know who the player was.

Alec Olgetree with a DUI last night. Was hoping the Bears get him but now don't know if I want him.

I'd still take Ogletree, or best OL available if he's gone. Lets he honest though, the Bears will take a freaking TE, since they love to torture their fans.

Are there any undersized, white defensive ends from the WAC available this year?

As a Bears fan, the first round of the draft gives me a glimpse into the mind of a Cubs fan every year. I know that its all about to go wrong, but I look onward with hope every year, only to get crushed by incompetence...

We do well in the later rounds though, so we have that going for us.

I'd take Warmack in a heartbeat if he's on the board when they pick. Lacy 2nd round would be awesome too. Hell, let's take all Bama guys.

The Rams won't pass on Warmack if he falls to them.

Nick Saban says four players arrested earlier this month are "no longer associated with the (Alabama) team."

Four Alabama Crimson Tide players arrested 'no longer associated with team' - ESPN

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama has dismissed four freshmen charged with either second-degree robbery or credit card fraud.

Defensive back Eddie Williams, 20, and linebackers Tyler Hayes and D.J. Pettway, both 18, were shown the door after being charged with second-degree robbery for their involvement in the separate robberies of two students on the Tuscaloosa campus on Feb. 11. They were subsequently barred from campus while awaiting a ruling from the Student Judicial Board.

"UA's judicial review has been completed," Deborah M. Lane, Alabama associate vice president for university relations, said Wednesday. "The four students involved in the robberies on campus are no longer enrolled in UA."

"Based on all the information we've received and going through and trying to determine the future of the four guys that got in trouble, those guys are no longer associated with the football program," Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban said on Wednesday. "Their actions do not reflect the spirit and character that we want our organization to reflect. It's obviously very disappointing and unacceptable what happened."

Williams, a former five-star athlete from Florida, confessed to robbing a student who was punched in the head and face and kicked in the ribs and back. Williams said Pettway and Hayes watched him commit another robbery, according to court records. Calloway admitted to using the stolen credit card for snacks from a vending machine.

Saban would not characterize the dismissal of the players in absolute terms, saying only, "They're not associated with the football program, that's the way I'd put it."

Said Saban: "Some people learn by words. Some people can learn by consequences. Some people can't learn."

All four players were backups during Alabama's run to a second straight national championship this past season. Pettway, who recorded 2.5 sacks and four tackles for loss as a defensive end, was named to the All-SEC freshman team. Hayes had 14 tackles as a freshman, primarily on special teams, including two in the BCS National Championship Game against Notre Dame. Calloway carried the ball just 10 times and Williams was not used at all as the staff opted to redshirt him.

Definitely no surprise to anyone. There was zero chance at least 3 of them would ever be part of the team again. You could almost make a case for Calloway not getting axed since he wasn't actually involved with the robberies, but he'd had a brush with the rules during the '11 season, so his shot at another chance was slim to none. I hate that those guys messed up this badly and blew their chance, but actions have consequences. I hope they get their heads on straight, learn something from this, and turn their lives around.
