Mike Tirico is leaving ESPN for NBC.

I imagine he will be doing golf, the Olympics, and maybe Notre Dame football??

THAT would be sweet.

What are the odds of him NOT doing ND football... I'd be surprised if he doesn't... right?

Gruden and Manning. No one will be able to understand any of it.

Couldn't be any worse than Madden was near the end... just stating the obvious over and over and over with a diagram and over the top sound affects... that was hard to get through.

The question will undoubtably be asked of him, right? I mean, ND football is the poster child of football on the NBC network and they hired one of the best football announcers out there. The topic has to come up, right?

...seems logical. Could it be though they got him to use as bait to attract another big name...like say Oklahoma...not the Longhorn network, but sharing football space with ND and having Tirico...man that might be attractive for some folks.

I thought our relationship with NBC was exclusive in both directions?

Seems more likely that they are slowly trying to bolster their talent in efforts to make a move for the NFL contract coming up in 2022.

I think he is calling Thursday night football which may make it difficult for him to do ND games as well.

I was under the impression that NBC got to exclusive broadcast rights of ND home games...I just assumed that meant on bye or away, NBC could put another game on.

NFL in 2022 would be fine by me...just hire the Collinsworth family and call it good :).

Yeah, he's not leaving 3 bills a year from ESPN and MNF just for Thursday night NFL and ND games. Definitely a move for NBC to line up a successor to Al Michaels who will be 72 next in the fall.

Tirico makes way too much money to do ND games.

Not to be anti-Mike, bc i am not, but i am not a fan of his golf coverage. Always hated when ESPN would have it. Maybe in a different system, he'll be better.

I am a fan though.

Please give us Tirico. I think he does a great job. Not over the top but calls close games and great plays with gusto.

He's one of the few analysts I don't dislike.

Doc Emrick and Brady Quinn

Doc and anybody = Greatest broadcasting team in the history of sports.

Tirico would be a godsend to replace Hicks. He is SOOO boring.

While NBC has the checkbook out, hire Aaron Taylor too. If we can't have Mayock back, I'll take Aaron as Tirico's sidekick.

I would pay money to have Doc do ND games. I would download the NBC sports app and purchase a season pass if it meant having him do the games. Honestly I don't think it would be that crazy for him to do it? 6 Days a year, not really that much overlap with the NHL, and he's already an NBC employee.

Who knows... we might find out that he's a long time Irish fan too. He grew up in Indiana, an hour and a half south of ND.

In all of these years I am shocked to never even have a rumor that NBC was going after another football program. Especially after they lost the Sunday NFL games.
