Finally looked around at what the national media had to say.... very hard to find anyone giving ND any credit whatsoever... it's all basically, "Michigan blew it, Harbaugh isn't worth the money..."

I dunno. I’ve seen some people say we may not suck. For instance, here’s Stewart Mandel - who picked us to go 8-4 and lose by multiple scores to Michigan - in The Athletic today.

“But man, they did look really good. Brandon Wimbush didn’t finish with an amazing stat line, but he showed improved accuracy and proved extremely resilient against a Michigan defensive front that got in his face all night. If he can build on that performance, Notre Dame could win a lot of games. Because I don’t think there was anything fluky about the Irish’s defensive performance.”

Sounds like Koon.

I haven't paid attention to the hottake artists in a long while but I went looking anyway... would love to know what some of the more fierce haters had to say, Howard, Cowheard, May, Eisen... funny I can't find a damn thing from anything of them except CC and he just completely ignores his lead up to the game.

Sucks Dex had to miss this one, but it'll be nice to trot out fresh juice for the Stanford game. That, plus all the experience Armstrong and Davis got, should play dividends later in the season. Glad the other guys could step up in his absence!

After watching the game both live and a couple replays, here’s how I feel based on our 1 game sample. In general, we saw everything we needed to see to feel really good.

On Wimbush: He stood in there like a warrior, and stepped up in the pocket several times like a he had been doing it his whole life. He was very calm, didn’t panic, even though he had every right to getting pressured like that. He kept his eyes downfield as far as I could tell. He didn’t have runs where I was thinking “why didn’t you pass!”. Every pocket escape seemed timely and the correct read. Will be interesting to see going forward if he’s able to scan the field and make more plays with his arms given that he’ll have more time. Will also be interesting to see how he responds to zone. Man to man plays to his strength, zone not so much. So looking forward to that, because it's a whole new animal.

On the OL: They were pretty good in run blocking actually. I watched one half where I focused on Hainsey on every play, same with Liam. Hainsey and Liam didn’t seem overmatched when running, but in pass pro they’d get beat around the corner quite a bit. That’s expected so no reason to panic. I think they did slightly better than expected, but not great. Again, it’s Michigan and it’s their first game, so no reason for concern. Overall, pleased.

On the RBs: Not sure why Tony Jones didn’t get more carries. He seemed like the better runner to me. I know Jafar had the two TDs, but Jones lowered the pads and got an extra yard or two on every carry by reading the hole and lowering his head. Overall, they are what I expected. Nothing to concern a defense, but solid.

Lastly, Michigan still sucks, so fvck them.

Liam's first game, but not Hainsey's first game or even his first start. I'm 99% sure Hainsey is still not 100% from his injury during camp. Towards the end of the game they took him out and moved Kramer to RT and brought in Lugg to RG. Personally i would like to see Hainsey sit out this upcoming saturday and heal up.

completely agree with you on Tony Jones. The coaches know what they are going to get with Tony Jones Jr. He will be reliable, run hard, and will get nice chunk 10-15 yard runs at times, but he will not break bi/long Josh Adam type runs. i think the coaches were excited with what they saw from Jafar and Avery in camp and wanted to see them have explosive plays; which is extremely difficult verse Michigan defense. I would have rather they featured Jones jr to wear down the Michigan defense and as you mentioned lower his head and pickup a few extra yards.

You could tell Armstrong is a freshman. While he ran hard, he couldn't bounce off or run through tacklers, like someone with a little more physical maturity. The good news is he will mature.

Why Jones didn't get more snaps? IMO, I think BK was playing Armstrong and Davis hoping to pop one with their speed. Jones was in late, because of what I just wrote and he has experience, so fumbles aren't a worry.

Armstrong is a redshirt freshman. so he has over a year in strength and conditioning program. Saying that he was a WR and has only been a RB for 6 months.

I've stayed pretty close to the set and radio and not even Herbie has mentioned how off he was on his pick..... Cowherd pretty much said 'book it' on Michigan last Friday and he said Michigan 'laid an egg'.

I think you guys are being a little sensitive. We were ranked 8th in the country by the AP poll. That's #respekt. We have a bunch of big games left on the schedule to win, and when we do, the media will start to gush over us as per usual.

I guess this falls under the section of the "dreaded vote of confidence"

It would be insane for Michigan to eat $40 million or whatever to punt on a guy averaging 9+ wins per season.

I really enjoy listening to the narrative from my buddies who are Michigan slappies. "It was a close game", "Had Shea not fumbled that ball we were winning that game" etc etc.

Don't know what game they were watching-Notre dame has a good defense but its way early to tell much because I'm not sure how good mich is on offense. That was a bit of a butt whopping. But man the schedule is loaded with quality-if they go thru with just 2 losses its a tremendous achievement-11-1 and they should be in the playoff. Southern ca/Stanford/mich st/va tech c'mon and some of these games are away-Alabama doesn't win all these games with that schedule. College is football is boring with the way its set up today-if I didn't love the Irish i probably wouldn't watch the rigged deck of ohio state Clemson ga ala playoff. No room for the other 130 plus teams-rigged deck but love you Irish

I’d rather the media against us than for us.

I like a team with a machiavellian mentality.

Nothing worse than a sports media darling.

(With that said, Skip Bayless provided the best example of the worst kind of Michigan fan.)

Just got home. Just turned on the TV. No clue what show it is. But the first thing I hear is Desmond Howard saying we 'just threw up a bunch of 50/50 balls' after Jessie Palmer said BK lit it up offensively and completely out coached UM to start the game. Desmond was pissed and having none of it. I get being a homer. But what a blind dick.

Absurd. Literally threw up one 50/50 ball, and their punk asses got #MOSSED by a 5'10" walk-on... not ND's fault he out-played your 4-stars, and it's also not "luck" or anything close to it.

It's insane how it only took Michigan fans a few days to kick the narrative machine into over-drive rationalizing how actually they were the "better team" and "outplayed Notre Dame" and "beat themselves" or "don't know how they lost."

This is why people hate Michigan. They take blind arrogance to a special level.

That was David Pollack, not Jessie Palmer. Bottom line - it's ESPN and Desmond Howard, so take it with a grain of salt.

I am freaking TIRED of hearing about 50/50 balls... How and when did this become such a big deal?

Since when are QBs only supposed to throw to wide open receivers?

I was under the impression the qb was supposed to place the ball in a spot that the WR is capable of making a catch.

Also, I wonder if Desmond Howard remembers Denards "accuracy".

Actually in his interview with Joe Klatt Cowherd admits that as the game went on he realized Notre Dame had the better players.

I usually just move past any of these guys and their clear homer discussions. But this was clearly much more than that. Throughout the discussion he was visibly beside himself.

Ha! You are correct. I literally just caught a bit of it after walking in. Pollack, on the other hand, was on the opposite side of the spectrum. IIRC he played for UGA. Yet when UGA was the topic he had no issue questioning their D.

I actually think they would have, too. Not that ND didn't play better, but that drive had "break my heart" all over it to tie it up, steal all the momentum heading into OT, and then fully break my heart. I think if he hadn't fumbled, Michigan would have won. But we'll never know, because he did, and that's that.

Saw that too... I love how Howard laughed extra hard like it was the most absurd question ever when asked ND if could make a playoff run... dude (according to what was posted here) you had Michigan winning the whole thing, the whole thing. They just lost to ND yet it’s laughable to even consider ND a potential playoff team? This is exactly why I don’t watch this mess anymore... I only tuned in today to hear anyone compliment ND and just happened to catch that exact segment. This is ACamp signing back off.....

The only person who loves Desmond Howard more than Desmond Howard is no one. He won Super Bowl honors, but his ego peaked at Michigan. Now, he lives on a flatline of contrived and shallow thoughts of glory days no one really cares about anymore, only his sycophant admirers. Instead, his alma mater has betrayed his false sense of pride, leaving him nothing but empty justifications for their and his actual mediocrity.
