I tend to find that any contemporary piece on Ireland's or Scotland's urban areas always makes them out to be mid 1980's Beirut...

They watched Trainspotting in college so they "get what's it about".

the irony is that the neighbourhood McGregor's family moved to in Lucan Village is probably the most affluent in west Dublin. Far from the "mean streets"

I didn't think it made it sound that bad.

It just made it sound like Dublin has rough neighborhoods with gangs, just like every other city, and that McGregor came from one of those places.

Seems like a pretty standard "hardened by the hard place" story.

I was more intrigued by the constant callbacks to McGregor avoiding the financial and personal flameout once his career is over. It seems like McGregor has no designs on slowing down or securing his future, and yet Thompson seemed to keep pushing that as a "motivation" to what he's doing right now.

"Yes, he buys $20k watches and wears them a single time, and yes he rents expensive sports cars every week, and yes he rents out the Gucci store for a private shopping trip for himself and his family, but he also realizes that he can't be Mike Tyson, or Sonny Liston, or even Floyd Mayweather. He understands that he can't let it all disappear once the fights end."

Bullshit, Wright, you're pushing that narrative yourself. He doesn't have a single quote about that stuff in your article, aside from bragging about blowing cash with his newborn in the store. He isn't concerned about his future right now. You just struggled to find a solid theme to tie into his past, so you forced one.

McGregor said "no fucking problem" when Floyd asked him to bet his entire paycheck that he'd win. Just saw a quick clip of the exchange.

7000 tickets still unsold (out of 27,000)..

They overpriced the hell out of them. They assumed international demand like they get for McGregor in UFC fights but people aren't flying in from Ireland to watch a mockery.

With that being said, I am attending a fight watch party because why not lol...

they actually have flown pretty well plus because its in the summer every J1 visa (90 day visa irish students can get to live and work for a summer in US) holder will be in town. They can't probably afford to attend the fight but they'll be around watching in the local bars etc.

Gonna buy it with some buddies, watch a total shitfest of a fight, then be pissed that we spent any money on it.

A tale as old as any Mayweather fight.

Unless I fall into some free viewing last minute I have zero plans of watching and or caring... I think it would be hilarious if FM got knocked out just because the sham this thing is and it being his craft, but aside that it's barely on my radar.

I really don't care. My hope is Mayweather destroys him so there is no chance that there will a rematch...

Same. I learned my lesson from ordering the Pacquiao fight that watching FM box is the cure for insomnia. I expect 12 rounds of toying with a guy who is waaaaay out of his depth.

I don't buy ppv fights. I did one time when I was young and my brother, Dad, and I went in to pay for one. Most boring undercard of fights I had ever seen. Then Tyson came out and obliterated Spinks in less time than the national anthem took. Haven't bought anything ppv since.

I actually think that he'll toy with him for 3-4 rounds to make sure McGregor can't hit him... and then go for the knockout.

Or he takes a dive to sell the rematch.

I made a lot of money from the Mayweather Pacquiao fight...by selling expensive drinks to people with way too much money. They tipped well though. Each time I could get a glance at the fight though, I couldn't see what the excitement was about.

I don't buy ppv fights.

I used to in college... last fight I paid to watch was Fernando Vargas vs the 'unauthentic mexican'... I so wanted Vargas to smash Oscar's face in... still salty.

I've watched numerous PPVs in the years since tho... that's why I mentioned, "Unless I luck into it"... because I've lucked into numerous big fights over the years and got to watch for free, friend of a friend, lucky stream, just at the right place at the right time... stuff like that.

Last ppv fight I actually purchased was Tyson/Holyfield the first go-round...been a while. Much better watching ppv at a buddy's house on their dime I've learned. :)

My bachelor party is this weekend. We have it ordered already and I'm pretty excited for this fight. Hopefully I make it till midnight...

I was able to stream the Pacquio/Maweather fight in college for free but won't be able to do that this time.

Yes I bought that fight. What a major disappointment.

There are websites like stream2watch.com or if you have Kodi on a Firestick.

I think I watched the Pac/Mayweather fight from a live stream on YouTube. There's no guarantee until the matches are on.
