Na, no way. Everybody and their brother crows when they beat ND, regardless of the circumstances or who is/isn't on the field. A #1 team doesn't become #1 because of one guy. That defense was still legit, and their skill players were unreal as we saw DJ make use of them. It was still a huge win. If you put tOSU's 2022 team against that same 2020 Clemson team I don't think they win. Could be another overtime in a shootout. They'd score a lot of points, but their defense has been suspect for awhile. I don't think they'd be any better, probably about the same all things offsetting.

The victory will always be hollow because TL and a couple other studs did not play for Clemson. Every college fan I speak with says that it was a victory against a severely weakened Clemson and that is a fair perception. Still a fun win, but I will not pretend that it was against a full Clemson squad.
Who gives af what they say it’s not like their perception matters at all. We won the game. No wins in the history of the sport have an asterisk for an opposing player’s injury.

Or for the refs calling a bad game (looking at you Leaf's fans)

Perception matters in my own mind; therefore I believe I should take in account other peoples perceptions. If I want to exist in a plane of existence where only my perception matters than I won't question others. But, I care not to live in that world. The fact is the victory was cheapened (especially since we got clubbed later by a full Clemson, Hello?) and proved BK could only beat a severely weakened Clemson . Unfortunately that sums up BK's time here. Weak schedules, hollow victories, and probation and a ton of excuses. That is who he is.

I hope Coach Freeman changes this perception and creates a reality of domination.

All these things can be true, right?

Beating Clemson was an enormous win. Truly. Biggest since 1993. We won the biggest game of the regular season and can’t nothing take that away.

It was indeed knocked down a peg by Lawrence being out and then them beating the doors off us a month later.

And going to Columbus and beating a full-strength Ohio State in Freeman’s first real game would probably be even bigger.

A really good win, for sure. I think Oklahoma 2012 was more impressive given the circumstances.

Just cannot afford a 2012 Alabama performance. If we lose we lose, but it can’t look like we’re playing a different sport than them.
The difference in talent isn't nearly as great as it was in 12.

No way a week 1 win will be bigger than winning a battle of unbeaten teams more than midway through the season that effectively clinched a playoff spot. The build up won’t be the same, and the possibility of both teams falling off in the next 11 games is too high. Beating OSU would be huge, but there was a lot leading up to and after that Clemson win that magnified it even with TL out.

If you've got the option to go from South Bend to Midway in Chicago, you're not gonna NOT take the private jet lol

That can't even be 45 minutes. The takeoff and the landing are probably the bulk of the trip. He gets a glance of Lake Michigan and he's there.

Yeah, most commercial planes average 500 miles an hour. If you're going 90 miles from South Bend to Chicago, even accounting for deceleration/acceleration at the start and end of the flight you're talking 15 minutes tops in the air. You probably do end up spending at least 30 minutes on runways though. At some point you have to wonder if it's less of a hassle just to drive.

I’m sure it’s not just south bend to Chicago and back again.

Never said DJ struggled, I said he played lights out.
Great win but you brought up Clemson 2020
When I said OSU 22 would be the biggest victory since 93 FSU.
How did we play them when they had Lawrence?
What's a bigger win for the program,
Clemson in 2020 or OSU in 22?

Notre Dame has 3 commits for 2024 already. LSU has 5 commits in 2023 and 2024. Lol

He's everywhere. Baseball team gets back from Knoxville, he's there. Women's sporting events at ND, he's there.

All he has to do is win games now.

It's easy to root for the man, he appears to be so genuine and in tune with all things ND. That video of him greeting Link when they returned to SB was awesome.

Was thinking about that this morning. He doesn't even need to win big, or punch about our roster's talent level. If he can just win the games we should be favored in and go 1 of 3 against our toughest opponents, we're at 10+ wins again and this train just keeps rolling.

And 11+ wins would hardly be a stretch. Clemson's got an elite defense, but their offense is still hot garbage and there's no way they don't take a big step back after losing Venables and Elliot. USC's still Charmin-soft.

OSU is the only game we should lose. But even there, I wouldn't bet against Freeman.
