I think you will hear less off hand remarks form Marcus about OSU in the future. I bet the possibility of being at OSU or some other major program's Head Coach just got a wee bit more attractive in the last week. He looked awful in that presser - and for good reason.

Thank you for reiterating this take this morning for anyone who missed it yesterday.

They saw flies in the facts that we already know. Even Swarbrick’s letter discussed how there was some balking at paying the buyout in the beginning.

Marcus was not being completely candid in the press conference and that’s what coaches have to do to protect their athletic Director who hires them and pays their salary. This is Swarbrick’s program not Marcus’s.
His email never actually said they stopped balking at the buyout. It did say Ludwig was never formally offered the job but gave no reason why not. Pretty obvious the reason was the buyout. If it wasn’t, Swarbrick would have said so since that was what caused the backlash from fans.

If Freeman gets 3 or less losses this year he will get some serious interview opportunities. I gotta think TAMU, OSU, FSU, FL, PSU and Michigan are all possible within the next 1- 3 years. All of these programs are vastly more committed to Nattys than we are.

You do realize that our overall roster is better than every team other than OSU and Texas A&M. And maybe FSU and they decided to just jump in the portal.

And I still don’t believe they will buy Jimbo out yet.

Do you pay attention to Michigan football at all? It’s been reported they have a worse NIL jig then we do.

Good lord. Get a grip. Ohio State, yes, could be more appealing for an OSU alum. The rest of the schools you list are a backwards lateral at best for the head coach at Notre Dame.

Isn't it the opposite? Another bad look for Kelly and Jack hired someone who would do better.

Edit: I mean, its kind of what a lot of people were saying about the Deion quote. Like, a lot of coaches did something similar, they just didn't say it. Now we have Freeman on record saying he doesn't do it and that he basically confronted someone who did do it.

Yeah I don't think Swarbrick was making day-to-day decisions about who we would/wouldn't recruit. Not sure this has anything to do with him.
Freeman's just saying widen the funnel, talk to kids who might not fit the ideal/stereotypical Notre Dame profile but who have the right traits and want to succeed. And of course he knows he's saying this to the all-time example of that sort of player. Like all good preachers, he knows where the choir sits.

I was more talking about the ACT comment but I agree with you. I don’t think it’s a bad look for ND and Freeman.

Reading between the lines. "Unlike my predecessor, I'm going to do whatever it takes in recruiting to get the kids that give us the best chance to win."
