That second turn.
The devil made me do (say) it!smarty pants....
Where are all my conspiracy theorists at? Let's get our foil hats on, yo!
It all has to do with the 20 or so Freescale Semiconductors employees on board. They are from a Texas based company reported to be working on top secret projects having to do with...wait for it...airplane cloaking systems!
What an advertising opportunity for the company! "Umm, does our technology work? Yeah, we made a freakin' airliner disappear and hid it from the world for a month! Yes it works! Now hand over the check for 27 quadrillion dollars!"
According to Einstein the plane should reappear from it's wormhole shortly...

Malaysian PM just stated that according to new satellite data, he can confirm that the plane went down in a remote part of the Indian Ocean, with no survivors.
Finally - closure for the families.
Now, why were they flying that direction?
Assuming that this is all true, and they find the actual wreckage, I guess that's something only the black box can answer.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read that authorities fear that even the black box won't answer all our questions in this case because it doesn't record the entire flight; it only records the last few hours of a flight. It may have been that whatever sealed Flight 370's fate happened several hours before the plane actually crashed, that the plane was just flying on autopilot with all the passengers passed out from smoke/CO/loss of pressure for most of the time it was in the air, and the black box will reveal nothing but a plane silently flying on autopilot.
I read the same thing.
See Payne Stewart : "At 9:33 AM EDT the pilots did not respond to a call to change radio frequencies, and there was no further contact from the plane. The plane was, apparently, still on autopilot and angled off-course, as observed by several U.S. Air Force (and Air National Guard) F-16 fighter aircraft[25] as it continued its flight over the southern and midwestern United States. The military pilots observed frost or condensation on the windshield (consistent with loss of cabin pressure) which obscured the cockpit, and no motion was visible through the small patch of windshield that was clear."
what a way to go. so sad. and scary as hell. can't even imagine...

Today all Boeing current-production models use DFDR systems, which will store 64 12-bit words per second (wps) over a 25-hr period in electronic memory. At the end of the 25 hours, the DFDR will begin recording the most recent data over the oldest data. No tape removal is required with these systems. Each of these systems on every Boeing model (except the 777) have at least two data frames that are transmitted from the DFDAU to the DFDR (see "What Is a Data Frame?" below).
These separate data frames accommodate the different regulatory agency requirements. A 128-wps DFDR was available for the Boeing 777 and MD-90, allowing the development of one data frame that incorporated all regulatory agency requirements and that required operators to develop only one data frame decode algorithm. "How a FAA Rule Is Changed", below, explains the basis on which the FAA may propose rule changes.
This may be dated, but don't know why they would reduce the recording period. From Boeing website:

Good to know. I do remember reading about how the black box records in loops and you only get like two hours of recording time before it begins recording over the old info. I can't remember though where I read that.
Oh great find, TSIR. Reps. Assuming this represents the truth of the matter (and it appears to), we'll know the full story if we find the wreckage.
I think there are two different things here. The flight data recorder takes constant measurement of parameters like time, air speed, fuel flow, heading, etc. However, that is complete different from the voice recorder. The voice recorder has a minimum of 2 hours worth of recording (link below).
I think the flight data will be able to tell most of the story here, but it is a possibility that the voice recorder yields silence.
