So work is moving me to Lubbock, Texas in a month or so. I have never been to the Lone Star state, let alone Lubbock. Anybody lived there/from there/spent a lot of time there? I'm going in blind.

There's only two things I hate in this world.

People who are intolerant of other people's cultures.

and Texans...

Hahahahahaha

Ok though, someone has to have something good to say about Lubbock right? The sultan of swag, Kliff Kingsbury, lives there for crying out loud.

I have lots of family there. As mentioned, red dirt/sandstorms every late winter and early spring.

Beautiful girls. Easy to navigate the town. Great healthcare. Nice restaurants. Good university. You'll enjoy your time there.

Cost of living is very reasonable.

Oh and beautiful girls. Especially near the university strip.

If you're single, make sure to wear the jimmy. STD capital of Texas I believe. Beautiful girls.

Lived in Texas for 10 years, but unfortunately I haven't heard much positive about Lubbock except from my friends that went to Tech. Hopefully that's just because of a small sample size.

Wow... So many responses and not one thing appropriate or useful stated... You'll love Texas and you'll love Lubbock.. Large town with small town feels... And great BBQ...

And a typical college town downtown...

I wish someone gave me this advice before I spent a weekend in Juarez.

It still burns.

Great restaurants, TTU is a nice campus and school, but not a whole lot to do and not very close to anywhere else.

I've lived in Houston and El Paso only been to Lubbock once.

Buddy Holly, hot, arid, Red Raiders, college town, cotton capital of the US, flat, big buckles and boots, did I mention hot (Texans don't mention hot), winter nights are cold, diverse population, dusty, lots of young women (college town). TT and the medical center and cotton dominated the economy. It's in the Top 100 cities population wise. You're a long way from anywhere in Lubbock.

Cry me a flippin' river.

"Insightful or useful". If you didn't want to hear any funny responses, then maybe you should have inquired about Lubbock to Google, instead of the off-topics section of a Notre Dame message board.

Here is some insightful knowledge. Lubbock sucks.

You'll be about 3 hours from Johnnykillz and Calsbad Caverns, the same to Roswell and the UFO museum, and about the same to Clovis, and Amarillo.

Three hours drivin' in Texas is close. It's commonly referred to as "just down the road apiece" or "yonder".

In Houston three hours drivin' is "goin' crosstown".

Stuff ACamp isn't going to tell you

Stuff ACamp isn't going to tell you

Raider Rash: The reputation that does not wash off - The Daily Toreador: La Vida

Some people have heard rumors of it, others have experienced it firsthand.
It is a source of bad reputation — one that does not wash off.
This is Raider Rash: A slang term for rumored sexually transmitted diseases that come from Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Whether this term originated from rivals — or as a simple joke around campus — is unknown, but this known fact remains true — STDs are a current issue in Lubbock County.
