I agree it was pretty apparent that LSU was starting to figure out the read option and Zaire can't push the ball down field as well as Golson. Zaire played extremely well but IMO (this may not be popular) this was more about gameplan than it was Zaire being the better overall QB.

Zaire proved he is capable of leading the offense. However, we will have to wait until next year to see if he is capable of pushing the ball down field as well as Golson. He wasn't asked to throw long, and until he is asked to do that we can only speculate as to how well he might do. What we do know is that Zaire has proven his ability to move the ball against a tough defense, and at least for one game he did it without a turnover. I, for one, would rather have 100 yards passing and a "W" than 400 yards passing, four turnovers, and a loss. Zaire deserves a "real" chance to be the starter next year. Let's hope Kelly gives him that opportunity.

Rees couldn't push the ball down the field. Zaire certainly appears to have a strong arm. Maybe not Golson strong, but strong enough. It is still unclear though how well he can read coverages and throw with accuracy.

His pocket passing was glorious. His footwork on those pocket throws were too. He still had some wtf moments (as did mz) but I thought eg looked great today.

We really needed this win. The momentum it generated will be crucial in helping us hold this recruiting class together.

Kelly is now the only NDFB coach in school history to win at least 8 games during each of his first 5 seasons. And he's done it during a period when it's harder than ever before to win at ND. Spell it with me now: E-L-I-T-E.

It'll be a very interesting spring for those two. Golson's a better passer. Zaire's a better runner. But both are reasonably good at the other, good enough that if one can get a handle on the other half of their game, he has a good chance to be pretty special.

Honestly, Zaire deserves to be the starter, easily. Give him more time under center and let him to learn how to throw more, and he will blossom.

Not really sure what to do about EG, but I do not see how you could watch that game and say Zaire is the future of the team.

I get your point...five losses (especially when most are too inferior programs) is far from elite. However, I don't think you can do an apples-to-apples comparsion to Holts, Ara, Leahy, or Knute. Different times, different circumstances, different everything. This isn't our parents' ND. To get to the level we saw under those HoF coaches isn't going to happen again at ND w/o some philosophical changes from the top down. This isn't 1989 & Vinny Cerrato isn't walking through that door.

It may not be flashy like Kelly wants, but it works better than any other formula. Just look at Bama. They are run heavy but efficient passing too. Though the game plan was awesome, I think it might be a bit unrealistic for a season long basis. Zaire ran the ball 22 times today, that is a lot of shots to be taken and a high chance at being injured. Its easy when you have a proven guy as the next man in but most seasons that wont be the case. But then again Kelly has done well implementing new Qbs mid season so maybe the risk-reward isn't too bad.

Watching live it appeared as though Romeo made a lot of big plays and really looked as good as I have seen him look. Also, although Max got beat a couple times in the passing game, and on the long run by #7, he did give a lot of good run support throughout the game

From what I gathered, Zaire and Golson were both good, but it seems like Zaire has an edge in this race.

While a lot argue that Golson has the better, it's true he has the STRONGER arm, but better? Occasionally. When we get good Golson, he is a terror through the air. That being said, how often did we see good Golson this year? 2, maybe 3 times? Zaire has 1 game under his belt, but it comes against an elite defense, and he excelled in both running AND passing the ball. 12 of 15 is fantastic, along with being the leading rusher for the team. Golson did well himself, but he wasn't as effective as Zaire in either facets. This may just be LSU's familiarization with Golson as they have more film on him. However, Zaire's ability to run the read option and pick up more yards with his superior speed can't be understated. It simply adds another dimension to the offense that the D has to plan for. It also makes it easier to keep drives alive. Golson under center tends to stall out because he doesn't present the running threat Zaire is, and that allows the D more of a cushion. They can play more balanced because while Golson can run it, he's not going to take it to the house. He'll get the first, and that's about it on most occasions.

I'm hoping Kelly realizes how great of a weapon the read option can become in this system, and Zaire can run it as good as anyone out there.

My post game thoughts:

-Happy as hell to win! Esp against a solid team from the SEC.
-Thankful for Golson and Brindza's redemption.
-BK coached a hell of a game for a change.
-Malik looks every bit the part. He and EG will push each other.
-Folston is w/o a doubt the #1 back, but I'm so shocked that GB didn't play much considering the past two weeks BK said he'd play a lot. He'll get his shot next year, but man, I'm starting to feel bad for this kid.
-Fuller, pre-season '15 Biletnikoff favorite???
-Defense needs to get healthy. Needs some time to mature. They'll be fine. But I'm still holding on to my reservations on BVG at the moment.
-OL went beast mode yesterday and dominated one of the best defenses in the country. Keep it up! (They'll only get better too). Happy McGlinchey got the start (even if it was due to injury), the kid brings a nasty to the OL. Stanley, I hope he comes back. Kid can be a legit top 10 pick next year.
-Overall great win. Run the ball. Don't turn it over. Make your FGs. Score in the redzone. Win ball games. That simple.

Now, lets get out there and wrap up this recruiting cycle on a high note and get ready for spring ball!! Great season boys! Go Irish!

Honestly, I thought you could piece together video that showed him crossing the plane. Are they allowed to do that? When the ball hit the ground, one angle showed the knee up and another showed the ball across the plane.

I think the thing that stood out to me was how physical we were on both sides of the ball. We had a little swag. Pushing people around, finishing blocks, etc. It was great watching a ND team play with some heart after the last few games!

Honestly, my favorite part of the game was BK finally playing the best athletes that give his team the best chance to win. Loved seeing Shumate/Redfield at safety, Folston basically getting all of the carries, etc.

The experience this young team got this year along with capping it off against a solid SEC team is a monstrous springboard into '15. I think I say it every year, but next year really should be fun to watch.
