pretty pedestrian coverage from ESPN on our victory.....
shocker

Unranked team beats #23 doesn't usually get top billing. That said, the announcer above who messed up Golson and Folston also said "So much for the mighty SEC."

Also worth noting...he pronounced Prosise wrong, but about 50% of Irish Envy doesn't spell it right. #SEC bias

I'll take the win but LSU wasn't one of the top defenses in the SEC, hell they should've had 6 losses and they would've if the kid from Florida doesn't drop the ball in that game they lose, but congrats to the kids who played their asses off to get the win

According to the announcers, they were the #1 defense in the SEC

I get the rankings thing, but it's 1) one of only three bowl games for the day, 2) the first bowl game of the day, and 3) the SEC West going down, and 4) everybody loves ND LOL..

Not surprised as it is sec/espn.

Did any of the "can't believe they accepted an invite to this bowl, waste of time" or "its only about the money, we're gonna get smacked" or "they don't deserve a bowl" crowd come forward for their crow yet?

Did I miss it?

I'll be bummed if I missed it.

Watching the game with Kentucky (and thus SEC-WOOOOO!!!) fans was so sweet.

I don't want to a Debbie downer at the moment, but did Jaylon look a step slower than normal at times today? Or was that just him being gassed trying to chase LSU RB's sideline-to-sideline all day?

It's funny you should say that. I was just not thinking this.

Every other person/pre-game write-up I read said they had the #1 defense in the SEC. It's interesting that you are able to discard that in favor of your own determination.

Anthony Jennings is total garbage at quarterback. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Deshone Kizer would be starting instead of Jennings if he was at LSU

i thought this place would be jumpin...pretty quiet tonight

Well, the boys played well today... the program is in a slightly better place than it was at noon today. Hopefully it's the beginning of an upward trend heading into the offseason.

Redemption of Golson and Bridza. I like it.

Couldn't be a more perfect ending for them

Kelly: "I did a better job coaching” in reference to protecting the defense with ball control.
— Irish Illustrated (@PeteSampson_) December 30, 2014

Maybe the players aren't the only one's learning

My thoughts:

4. I thought Redfield made some very nice open field tackles today. He did get completely owned on the long pass to the TE, but other than that, I thought he was pretty good.

5. Robinson drops too many balls.

6. Stanley did nothing but help his NFL stock today, I'm sorry to say.

4. No. He was directly at fault for 2 TDs. Also the long running play where he half assed dove into an existing block on an ND player while watching the RB run right around them.

5. Today, yes. Normally. no.

6. Completely agree. Our entire OLine looked good except the play Golson got destroyed on.

did I miss something here?

The Oline let like 3 free rushers thru the time Golson got destroyed. Kelly laid into Harry a bit after it happened. They bickered. Nothing bad.

I don't want to a Debbie downer at the moment, but did Jaylon look a step slower than normal at times today? Or was that just him being gassed trying to chase LSU RB's sideline-to-sideline all day?

I thought he's looked a step slow all year.

I'm sure it's been posted but:

This was the first OOC loss for any SEC West team all year.

This was such a great win for momentum into the offseason. I lived in Louisiana for two years and still go back to visit family from time to time and see my cousin who plays for LSU he didn't play today too young. But from friends and family down there all I got via text or phone calls from all of them was "y'all are going down" this was the best one "hey fisher you and ND are fixin to get your ass whooped you here bruh" I never texted back to any of them till today and just sent smiley faces. Got to love this win go IRISH!

I agree. I personally had a little too much fun at his expense and I hope he makes his way back here. We need another bisa ass expert regarding the QB.

You are either ranked #1- #25, or you are unranked. There is no #27. Sorry, pet peeve of mine.

New pet peeve of mine is you are #1-4 or who cares. :)

Coaches poll and AP Poll mean jack squat now.

Chris Brown today finally made me eat my prior words. Bitched about him all year. But he's gotten better as the season went on, and played great today.

The announcers, they were pathetic. Made me appreciate ours more, kinda.

my thoughts on the game after taking a break from the emotion.

1. Rushing - wow. 263 yards and a 5.2 average. MZ with 96 and TF with 73 is what most hoped for. Nice support from CJ.
2. GB not totally out of the dog house. Only 2 carries. Really thought he'd get more touches in, or out of the doghouse.
3. Surprised Cam didn't get more carries (1) being it's his last game.
4. Passing - only 26 attempts. BK did not play to LSU's strength. Fuller, Brown, CJ, and Amir all good solid nights. CROB dropped 2, one that would have been a big one.
5. props to Brown who stepped it up and took advantage of the limited throws.
6. MZ is a gamer and leader, and EG took one for the team. About as nice of a combo as one could ask for (aside from a few EG ducks). Props to EG for doing what he needed to do when he had his chances.
7. Turnovers - holy cow, nice job guys
8. Koyack - quiet game catching, big game blocking
9. Kick returns - Amir did a very nice job with 2 returns of 25ish. Field position!
10. Punt returns - scary
11. Punting - nice solid job by KB. 3 of 4 with a -20 outcome.
12. KB slumped at times this year, but came up big with a solid lace kick to bring us home
13. Overall Defense - did what they had to
14. Rush D - ouch. 5 LSU rushers averaging over 5yrds per carry. 7.5 overall.
15. Passing D - Jennings only threw 14, but we did pretty darn good. Luke and Riggs were the bright spot spending the night on islands. S, well let's not talk about Ss.
16. Riggs almost had an INT, and Cole was solid all night long. Will be a special kid next year.
17. Return coverage - ouch. enough said.
18. Phenomenal game by BK. Played to LSU's weakness when it came to the O. We were fortunate playing a one dimensional LSU O which allowed us to focus on the run. Only complaint I have is the TO calling in the second.
19. OL - Harry did a spectacular job. I know he and BK got into a bit, but the big uglies played a hell of a game.
20. LBs were pretty damn good most of the night. Will be our strength for the next several years to come.
21. Damn good way to end the year. Will make the next 8 months a lot easier....
22. Out of all the teams to play, I'm glad we go LSU. Beat the SEC West, the SEC's best D, Tillery's assumed threat, etc..
23. Such a great result for recruiting. Times gonna get tough with JH in the hood. At least he can't say "well ND got jailsexed by LSU". Adding to our effort against FSU, we can spin a pretty good story to a lot of kids, and kids in the South.
24. 2015 looks so bright. Shopping for some new Ray Bans right now on the SunglassHut website.

My thoughts:

1. Zaire looked more poised than the USC game. Very confident in the read/option. Only complaint is that I think he keeps it more than he should. Especially in short yardage situations. Teams will figure that out.

2. Unfortunately, I think this was Golson's last game in an ND uniform. In my opinion, regardless of how he played, I think Kelly has shown him the door.

3. I'm not sure who's responsibility it is to cover the middle of the field, but apparently every call that Van Gorder puts out there doesn't stress it.

4. I thought Redfield made some very nice open field tackles today. He did get completely owned on the long pass to the TE, but other than that, I thought he was pretty good.

5. Robinson drops too many balls.

6. Stanley did nothing but help his NFL stock today, I'm sorry to say.

7. Still would have like to see some more Greg Bryant, but what I like from Folston is that when he knows he can't get to the outside, he squares up to the end zone and goes for it. No angle runs. All North and South.

I disagree on Golson. I think his performance on the final drive was clutch. Maybe he'll realize that Zaire's helmet popping off was fate.

By the 4th quarter, the read option was pretty much solved by LSU. Part of it was inexperience on Zaire's part. I agree he keeps a little too often. The offense was reeling off a string of 3 & outs in the last quarter. I felt BK had to throw the ball & I liked our chances w/ Golson, but both kids did fine.

Started thinking Bryant was suspended or injured b/c he wasn't getting any touches & wasn't even returning punts. Then he got a punt & a carry late.

Robinson had a tough day but he'd be the first one to tell you that those were catchable balls. In fairness to Corey, the 2nd "drop" was a helluva play by the CB.

I thought Redfield looked horrible & now I understand why Kelly & staff benched him & said they were unhappy w/ his production. Getting deked by a running QB on an easy TD pass was bad enough. Then on the long Fournette TD run, he's standing there passively making a minimal effort to at least slow him up.
