I hope its not Sark, if or when Kelly goes to the NFL I would love to hire Stark or Strong.

I could see Del Rio being a great coach at sc.

But then again, he wears leather jackets on the sideline too.

I think it's 50/50 on wether he'd be great or terrible.

Word is that Peterson has a child with some sort of disability/problem, but that the child does well in Boise. If true, would be a good reason why he's seemed content to stay there and not even flirt with much better jobs. And if he and his family are truly happy in Boise, a Texas/Alabama/ND super-merged offer may not even be able to lure him away.

I clamored for Strong back when ND fired Weis. ND fans bemoaned the thought of hiring another coach without HC experience. I also had NW's Fitzgerald as a close second, but that was shot down because of his lack of experience. Shows you what some fans know...

Still, I liked and still like the Kelly hire. I simply preferred the other two with their more blue-collar styles to schemes like Stanford lately.

It really is crazy to think how much momentum USC could gain in the next few weeks. A bye week followed by Arizona, could allow them to get rolling.

But they lose their head coach and top 10 NFL pick wide receiver. I don't see any momentum in LA for a while

I guess I don't see it that way. Lee will be back, said so today. That group had become stagnant and lacked energy. I promise you, Coach O will bring plenty of energy. I see a different team for the rest of the season...a much better team.

Everybody would be interested in the USC job. Trying to be unbiased, that's the second-best coaching job in college football, only behind Texas.

I wouldn't say USC is the second-best coaching job. Very fair weather fans; it's the West Coast version of Miami. A mediocre season equates to attendance Stanford would laugh at.

"Best coaching job" really depends on what you define best as. If it's about getting paid, chance of winning championships, ease of recruiting, and fan support; then Bama wins out. If you add in level of scrutiny your program faces, then Texas may very well be #1.

IMO, there's tiers of great coaching jobs depending on what you value/perceive as most important.

Tier 1 (in no particular order)
Texas
Michigan
Notre Dame
OSU
Bama
UF
LSU
OU
USC
FSU

Tier 2
Georgia (Probably just misses the top cut)
PSU
Auburn
Oregon
Nebraska
Wisconsin
Texas A&M (I think they barely make the tier 2 cut)
Clemson
Washington
UCLA
Miami (I had a tough time slotting Miami)

Honestly trying to figure out what's worse- this news or the first 3 minutes of yesterday's game.

Isn't there a website we can get a petition going to get Kiffin his job back? I know we are ND fans, but the guy deserves that job.

Can you name the last successful ND HC that had no HC experience?

Hint: It was 95 years ago.

ND is no place for OJT. Those that forget history are condemned to repeat it.

I like Fitzgerald and Strong but neither has demonstrated Rockne, Leahy, Parseghian, Devine, or Holtz levels of success.

Fitzgerald has a better record at NW than Ara but that's due to the greater number of cupcakes scheduled in 12 game season.

Strong plays against a terribly soft schedule. His conference foes mostly qualify as cream puffs. He's had one good season after he got a quality transfer QB. He wouldn't get him at ND.

bet he keeps the house and all the jack just as a gesture...no doubt he knows where there are skeletons...skeletons he created...but nonetheless, his coaching career is done anyway...so whats he got to lose....but he could do major damage to USC.

I think he quietly walks away enriched for his silence...significantly enriched.

Wouldn't be surprised. I can see this turning turning into a long protracted legal battle.

Not Lane Kiffin related but USC related....The band just came out to Dodger stadium for a postseason rally to a chorus of boos.

I don't get the fascination with his wife. She looks like a bimbo to me. Either you guys live in places where you get a very sad amount of eye candy or you are way too easily impressed with bleach blond hair. That is not a good looking woman. That is the kind of stripper you tell to get away from you because you're just here for the beer.

On the plus side, if you guys are into women with $10,000 boobs and a $0.10 head, she will surely divorce Lane soon. She just looks like the type.

Bobby Petrino would be a huge get for the offensively. Holy crap they could be dangerous.

Smart move by Haden. Plenty of time to get a coach without hurting, maybe even helping recruiting.

Sombitch

Also gets them first to the coaching search race. Important this year with the possibility of the Texas job opening. Haden will have his homework done and be able to make a hire at the conclusion of the season which will be vital for recruiting purposes.

no kidding...just what the Dr. Ordered for that place. Would be a serious program guy and make a serious statement to the NCAA and everyone else about the vision for USC football going forward...but would he take it?

I have this gut feeling patty boy wants to break the ties with poodle's boys.

The steal would be Sumlin...long shot.

More likely candidates...Franklin from Vandy or Fitzgerald from NW.

I think Del Rio would do well to take the gig...

I think you couldn't go wrong with the fans if you brought in Sark...but like I said my gut says he does a 180 from poodle's boys...
