Steve Spurrier ... the most overrated IMO.
You crazy
Steve Spurrier ... the most overrated IMO.
FOOTBALL | COACH | SALARIES | USA TODAY SPORTS
Being 64th on this list at $1.45 mil a year may change my mind on Kelly staying. He is extremely underpaid as a coach.
Your incorrect, over-use of the comma drives me nuts, lol.
Don't, over, comma, when, not, necessary.
See Tony Rice and Everett Golson........
So the question is, what will be your stance if we get the traditional 9-4, or 8-5 season next year?
Huh? Tony rice was in the late 1980s and only made it in because of prop48.
I included Rice because you mentioned that S. Carolina high school football had some good talent years in the 80s. I didn't see any mention of gpas. I was just making reference to your statement about kids from S. Cackalacky wanting to go to a Catholic school in the Midwest. Deveron Harper and Lance Legree are a couple of others, who came from S. Carolina and played at ND.
Gotcha. I forgot about Lance Legree. Was he from Georgetown I think? Anyway you kinda support my point. Pretty slim as far as a state goes. Although they have have all been good to great for ND.
I have posted on this at depth but ND is just not going to get the non-catholic kids from rural SC and outside of Charleston and the metro Charlotte area. It is an academic and a religious issue at the core. And coming full circle Spurrier has been able to keep these kids in State. I think Carlos Dunlap and AJ Green are the last two big fish to leave the state.
Lamont Bryant was from Georgetown, and graduated the year before Legree. Legree was from St Stephen. Actually, wouldn't Golson be the last big fish to leave the state?
Not really. He was a low three star I believe and was committed to UNc. I dont even know how much the OBc was trying to get him. Plus they had Garcia, Shaw and then Thompson in the fold. Hell even Mason Rudolph, Worley, Jacob Park have all left but they were not on the level of Clowney, Lattimore, Aj Green or Dunlap.

They were over .500, for the four year period before Spurrier took over. They weren't great, maybe not even really good, but they weren't anything near terrible, either.
The 3 years before Spurrier got there, they were 16-19, including 2 seasons out of 3 with losing records. I can also pick out a 3 year stretch in the 1920's when they were 10 games OVER .500.
None of this changes the fact that they have, in their history of football, been a dog program. Now, with Spurrier, they are anything but that. You choosing 4 specific years to attempt to demonstrate otherwise doesn't change any of that.
my fellow ND fans...one request:
can we please stop talking about steve f-ing spurrier---dude is probably the biggest ND hater there ever was, and in his smug, good ole boy way so proud of it to boot.
We're probably much closer on this than you'd think. For this season, all things considered, I'd be genuinely happy with 10-3. 9-4 would be OK, 8-5 a disappointment, and 7-6 an unmitigated disaster.
Next season, I'm not quite feeling "playoffs or bust", but anything less than a major bowl win would be disappointing. That would be a historic first for ND; winning a BCS-caliber bowl in the modern era.
What are the bowl games called now? Do they even have a name?

I thought the "big 6" were all considered first tier. The 6 that rotate through the semi-final.Most people are calling them second-tier bowls now. First tier is obviously playoffs.

SC was terribad before he came. And on top, has one of the worst markets for high school football. Not as bad as Indiana and Illinois but definitely the worst in the SEC behind Kentucky.
Now dont get me wrong, Spurrier is a jackleg and my most disliked coach...even more than Les Miles. The guy doesnt know when to shut his mouth and his arrogance is just too much. Watching him lose is sickeningly enjoyable.
But keep in mind he took over from Lou Holtz who couldnt make it work at SC and I like to think that Lou was one of the best.
Huh? Tony rice was in the late 1980s and only made it in because of prop48. Jeff Burris is really the only guy I know that was a true ND man from SC. There was also Gary Gray. How that happened I have no idea. Chris Brown? Good kid from a rough/poor city. I have said this before but I wish we could get the kids from Orangeburg, Dorman, Northwestern, Byrnes, AC Flora, Myrtle Beach but it's just not gonna happen on a regular basis. If I had my druthers Dorman would be the pipeline to start but it is in the middle of Bob Jones country and these kids are not going to a private catholic school.
The Charleston/Summerville area is the most likely place to get ND kids because of the historical Catholic presence but they are 1-3A schools/ private schools with very weak competition and not so great academics.
"New year's six "Are all tier one Major Bowls.. Rose and Sugar are the semi's this yr. Cotton, Peach, Orange, Fiesta are the others. All six games will be played on NYE / NYD.
I remember when the Fiesta was a second tier bowl along with the Peach. Back then the Cotton was one of the four premier bowls (Rose, Orange, Cotton & Sugar). They lost some luster when they didn't keep pace financially with the others and the Fiesta found some money. Looks like the Peach and Cotton have found some financial backing to be included in that group.
Cowboy Stadium and Tradition is what brought the Cotton Bowl back.
Yeah it's the Chick-fil-a bowl. And the Peach is in Atlanta, right? At the Georgia Dome? That town loves it some college football.
Yeah it's the Chick-fil-a bowl.
I wouldn't mind playing in that bowl this year. Long shot now though, unless we win out.Yeah it's the Chick-fil-a bowl.
