Jack, Father Jenkins and Brian Kelly thanks for getting this done.

As far as the players involved in this unfortunate situation - remember the very strong privacy laws that prohibit and punish any disclosure of anything about any student.

Kelly may have known a lot more than he was publicly saying.

A degree from the University of Notre Dame means something for every football player because you actually earn it and work for it - even if you are an outstanding athlete.

At Notre Dame, STUDENT-athlete. This will repel a lot of outstanding athletes. It will attract a lot of outstanding student-athletes.

I am hopeful Brian Kelly will be at Notre Dame for a long while.

I can assure you that beyond a shadow of a doubt, BK knew exactly what was going on at every step of the process. The rumor mill in higher education is incredibly effective at disseminating information, although BK didn't need to rely on the rumor mill. I have no doubt he was being kept in the loop by those directly involved with the process. I get that, for the sake of public perception and BK's sanity, this thing was spun as a "separation of church and state" sort of affair, but there's no way that's actually the case. I was kind of surprised none of the reporters pushed him on that point, although I'm sure they like continued press access and don't want to rock the boat too much.

Just think of what Kiffin could do with this kind of talent.

Resisting urge to neg-bomb.

Hypothetically, because I think Kelly is working far too hard on the recruiting trail for a coach that may potentially leave, I would love to see ND go after Art Briles in the event of a coaching search.

The roster is already stocked for a similar offense, and we know he can develop QBs and skill players with the best of them, regardless of star power. His offensive line has quietly been one of the best in the nation for several years, and his running backs can carry that offense at any moment, even though it's built to beat defenses over the top. Throw in the fact that he seems to have addressed his program's biggest flaw by steadily upgrading his defense every year, and I think he could be alright.

The questions:

1. Would he leave the state of Texas?
2. If he were to come, he's probably good for 4 or 5 years based on age and demands of the job. Will he bring in a young coordinator of some sort for an eventual takeover?

Don't take this the wrong way cause there's no one I'd rather have right now at ND, but BK would get hammered by fans for some of his play calling at the NFL level IMO. It's not his strength.

It's tough to predict how he would do offensively in the NFL but I see what you're saying, to a certain degree. He has kind of struggled to find an identity and had sort of became a mix of everything.

Working with Rees kind of tied his hands though.. And that's the majority of his resume.

At times his offense looks great and other times sloppy, confused and unoriginal. Rees' limitations had something to do with that.

With Golson, his first year was a roller coaster which was to be expected as a freshman. Then he gets suspended, works with a guru and comes back.

What I'm getting at is, maybe the offensive inconsistency has more to do with the QB position during his tenure than anything else. He only gives the QB what he thinks they can handle and with Everett pissing himself in the first few series of every game who knows if he's tightened the reigns.

I'd love to see us move like UNC moved against us. The ability to get up to the ball and reduce the defensive communication is huge in college.

Everyone that is jumping on Dan Mullen's nuts realizes that he was 36-28 at MSU the previous 5 years and had never beaten a top 20 team right? He was on the warm seat at the start of this year...

Very tough place to recruit (which he has done well at), and plays in the toughest division in CFB. They are 30 games under .500 collectively since 1970, so I'd say his 42-28 record is pretty impressive.

The question with him is whether he built a team around a QB or built a program. I tend to think his success has more to do with DP being a mature senior QB than an elite overall program.

I don't want to take away from the team this year, but I fully expect MSU to drop after this year and become an afterthought again.

Has Gary Barnett already withdrawn his name again from consideration?

Don't forget, Rick Neuheisel, infamous Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbiner. Finkbiner called the athletic director Kevin White and proceeded to bend his ear about friend Neuheisel's positive attributes. On and on Carty rolled; turns out White was in Willingham's living room to offer him the ND job!

I can just see it, three or four such awkward boobs!

The year we don't do it, he gone

That's how it was with Butler fans and Brad Stevens. Every year he was taking some big college job. The one year no one expected, he's in Boston.

If Kelly leaves, the program is in good enough shape where I think Swarbrick will find another great head coach. Mullen, Briles, whoever.

Also if someone throws around BVG they'll look like the people who were saying Diaco the last two years i.e. look like an idiot.

I don't do neg reps, but if I did, this post would get one. The bolded statements are nothing but total horsesh*t.

First of all, there is absolutely a "separation of church and state." Come on. You've been following ND football for a lonnnnnnnnng time. Please name me a single example of a coach having ANY input or involvement whatsoever in:
1. Academic conduct hearings.
2. Student conduct (i.e. ResLife) hearings.

Second, it's completely irresponsible to state something like that when it couldn't be further from the truth. The players involved didn't even know the specific charges against them until the week preceding their hearings. So if the players had to go pick up their notice of what they were being charged with and had NO CLUE up to that point the specifics of what alleged misconduct... how the f*ck could Brian Kelly possibly have been "kept in the loop?" Unless your premise is that the lawyers, dean, and administrators in charge of the investigation were actively going against code to feed the head coach information that the players themselves did not have. And if that's your premise, show me one shred of proof that supports that conclusion.

Winston has "With the first pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, The Cleveland Browns Select..." written all over him...

Why would the Raiders take winston when Derek Carr is doing very well?

It was more a joke about how the Raiders are an inept franchise that chooses players with heavy character issues more than a realistic assumption.

In case JaMarcus Russell 1.0 wasn't enough, the new improved version 2.0 comes complete with free Crab legs, rape allegations, and a nice scooter/BB Gun combo. JMR v 2.0 will make version 1.0 and his purple drink look like child's play.

If Florida calls, does bk listen? I'm not sure if its his desire for privacy (or his NFL flirting) but bk has never really seemed to open up about nd to a large audience. That makes some think he isn't in love with the place like a holtz. With the way the year has gone, this has only seemed to get worse (from the POV of those I converse with, both huge fans and casual alike).

Coaches always listen... maybe through their agent but they always listen. I don't believe Fla will be calling BK however. I think J. Foley may back door to Stoops at Oklahoma, Strong at Texas, and maybe Rich Rod. Whoever gets the job will be walking in to a pretty good opportunity.

Wait...why are people on here suddenly hoping we hold on to BK? My Twitter feed was pretty clear about him needing to be fired. One guy had dug up Bear Bryant to come and coach this team next season.
